She has had a long journey getting this far, but she is doing well and will be care for by Big Cat Rescue for her lifetime. Find out why she was not able to be rehabbed and released back to the wild.

Summer is beautiful and although she cannot go into the wild BCR has given her a great place to live and enjoy her life, which would certainly end in the wild quickly but probably not before spreading some genetic defects...BCR does the right thing for the Cat and the environment! Way to always be there BCR. 🐾

It's a shame she will never know what it's like to live wild, but fate dealt her a bad hand. Nature would have deemed her too weak :( So glad she has a home at BCR. She will live a long, happy life at BCR.

I always feel that female bobcats have such soulful eyes. Bobcats like Breezy, Tom Tom, and Tiger Lilly; you could see so much in their eyes, like a fierce spirit or a gentle soul. Summer had those soulful eyes (and such an adorable face!). I'm sad that she isn't eligible for release, but at least she'll have a loving home with the incredible BCR staff.

Seeing her now after she's been getting help she looks much better. That was awful looking at her and what was going on around her. Nice she's got a safe place to live. She is beautiful, and she looks so happy in her lovely enclosure! Very interesting that the impact of defective genes in the wild genepool is partly a factor in deciding to release or not. It's not something I've ever thoought about before, but it makes perfect sense. I'm glad she will have a chance to live a happy life in the best place for her. Keep up the good work!

That poor kitten, she may be a bobcat, but she's just a baby. Handle her more gently. She has no idea what's going on other than she lost her Mother.. God please look over her and help her get through all of this craziness. She's probably very afraid of something she's never known. Wish I could help you. Yes she has moved into her permanent home on the main property. She lives next to Mrs. Claws bobcat. She will live alone.

There’s no such thing as a Cat whose not pretty or special. Summer girl is just one who was beautiful from the moment we first saw her and special from the moment she was created. Do we know what happened to her MaMa? I wonder if she had Summers beautiful face too. ?♥️♥️
She was found as an orphan. No we do not know anything about her mother.
@Cathy Silva she was found in an area where the forrest was being cleared for a construction site. The earth excavator had scooped her up, luckily, the workers spotted her in time. It's a bitter-sweet story but, now that she's with the BCR, it's definitely sweet! 😻❤️

Hopefully she can have some cat friends in with her to play with.
Summer has several neighbors that she engages with during the day and many keepers who care for her and visit daily. Big cats (even bobcats) are solitary by nature and do not want to live with others or share food or space. In addition, Summer cannot live with others because of her tiny size (7 pounds) and the fact she cannot pass bones/fur/whole prey which the cats get twice a week. If another cat she lived with were to leave some, it could kill Summer. We are not willing to take that chance.
@@bigcatrescue Maybe a feral housecat? I've seen other big cat rescue centers where equal sized bobcats were put together and became best of pals. I appreciate your efforts regardless.
If and when you know that the cats can’t be released why can’t you give them some contact and love so that don’t have to be alone the rest of their lives?
Wild cats, with the exception of lions are solitary animals. They do not want to live with anyone else and they are NOT pets! They would rip your face off. They are fierce even if they live in a cage. They would never allow us to touch them in the wild and they aren't going to in a cage either. They are predators...not domestic house cats.

Isn’t she lonely? I didn’t see her having any interaction with people (besides vet staff) or other bobcats.

So what will be her diet, ground up fresh meat?
Since she cannot digest fur and bone she will not receive whole prey.
Do you think this defect might limit her lifespan?
We have no way of knowing.
