  • Voyah isn't exactly a household name outside of China, nor in China come to think of it, but their first two cars were actually pretty good. A luxury, electrified subsidiary of Dongfeng, they are nevertheless hamstrung by the general inefficiency of being state-owned. The Zhuiguang, however, changes all that, proving to be a genuine surprise package, packed full of interesting tech, a beautiful interior, sumptuous ride, and, OK, average looks.
    Watch on to see why it's possibly our surprise package of the year so far.

    It needs a bit more cohesion exterior design wise, I know they want to be distinctive but looks like each part has been designed by a different team. Otherwise aesthetically wise not bad.
    Some areas look a bit too toyish, but the rear 3/4 views looks nice. The interior is quite miniamilitic, I like it, probably in a more traditional color, but forms, materials etc look quite nice.
    Looking forward for the next gen of Chinese cars in 4-5 years, I think they are improving quite a lot. Sadly we have seen that when these cars come to the EU the prices double and sometimes nearly triple vs the MSRP on China, which is completely mad because with those inflated prices they stop being competitive against European car manufacturers which are already making cars more and more expensive and turning them into a way of transport for rich instead than a transport for the masses, specially with electric cars, hopefully this will change!

    • @InsideChinaAuto
      @InsideChinaAuto  Год назад +2

      Agreed. The exterior feels awkward to me but the interior is much nicer, a really lovely place to be. Chinese cars will just keep on getting better in the coming years, you only need to look back 5 years to see what they've come from. If state-owned manufacturers can make cars like this now, that's already very impressive.

      @@InsideChinaAuto I 100% agree, it's only a matter of time, same happened with Japanese cars, now with Koreans and Chinese soon, but with the difference that China has a massive industry, variety, etc. Really interesting times indeed! Thanks for the reviews, it is quite difficult to get content like this and I'm sure your channel will grow massively!

    Great video as always. Couple of things which definitely won't make it to the UK: driver viewable films screened on passenger side, and light-up logo on front bumper. Exterior aesthetics a weird mix of some bland body styling and hideous wheels.

    I like your detailed reviews and I follow the rapid development of the Chinese vehicle manufacturers - very impressive. My only gripes are that you keep telling us things are "cool" - which is uncool, and you have the nasty habit of taking both hands off the steering wheel to wave your arms about.....doubly uncool. I don't think I always agree with your personal views on design and styling but that will always be a personal choice. You are the go-to site for keeping pace with the Chinese Auto industry so keep up the good work.

      Appreciate the feedback Mike. Another viewer did comment on the 'cool' thing so I have tried to use it less on recent reviews though it's not always easy. I only ever take my hands off the wheel if there's nothing or nobody around me. Glad you enjoy the videos though, always happy to have you back.

    So is this the NEVS Emily GT car with the Protean Electric in-wheel motors which was developed by the Saab engineers in Trollhättan that was took over by Dongfeng ? Video of the last engineerd Saab (NEVS) that will never be: ruclips.net/video/E83vKlmruDg/видео.html

    • @InsideChinaAuto
      @InsideChinaAuto  Год назад

      @carlosorff Personally I'd still call that a hatchback because the rear window opens with the door but I know premium brands are fearful of 'cheapening' their sedans by calling them so, so they usually come up with some other name like 'hatchback style' or 'fastback'. We all know what it really is though.

      @johnsmith-cw3wo There's definitely a fine line to tread. Screens serve a good purpose but buttons for the right things are also a lost art. A BMW interior is overkill for buttons but overkill screens isn't the perfect answer.
