Characters and majority of the props come from Unreal Engine Marketplace and Polyhaven. I just ported them, which is 20 times easier to do now than it was back in Source 1. This is actually the very first SFM animation of mine that has not a single asset ripped from games. Weird flex, I know.

Nah, I just mocaped some of the outtakes after the main video was done. First comes the voice over, then the motion capture happens so that it looks more natural.
I do it at home, so I got approximately 3x6 m space to move around in. However, for my Backrooms cinematic I rented out a dance hall for a few hours where I had about 6x15 m space. Technically I can mocap outside, as mocap suit that I use (Perception Neuron 2) is wireless and camless, but I haven't tried that yet.

I do it outside of SFM, in Blender, using Rokoko addon: github.com/Rokoko/rokoko-studio-live-blender But if you really want to do it in SFM, then position two models in the same pose, and then manually attach limb to limb. However, not by simply locking them together, but rather by right clicking each of them and then using "Orient Constrain". Pelvis/hip would need a "Parent Constrain" so that the model can actually move around.

The scenes are animated AFTER the outtakes (original lines) are recorded. The scenes are animated to match the outtakes.
