  • In todays video I’m doing part 2 of my basement declutter. I got a ton done in last weeks video which was part 1 of the basement declutter, but there is a lot more clutter to tackle.
So I’m diving in and going to get as much done as I possibly can.
This basement has been a pain! But I’m feeling so much better getting all the clutter out abs creating a functional storage area with some organization ❤️
Appreciate you so much for stopping by and watching this video. I hope it inspires you to tackle a drawer or an area you’ve been wanting to declutter.

I'm coming along very late - but I can't help commenting that you grandma's photo is an emblem as one of the best reasons to declutter what isn't important. When we keep everything it becomes difficult to curate our items mindfully - like your lovely wedding book being popped in with other things - those items which mean so much have the right to be kept carefully and with respect. I think the job you've been doing has been amazing and I have to agree with the commenters who were in awe of your decisiveness - you are (were!) kicking this task in the butt! I going through a big day of getting things done and I'm allowing myself to rest between tasks by watching your videos and they are keeping me so motivated - thank you😊

Hello, Hello, Hello Jodi OMG, I’m a new subscriber, I actually found you yesterday and binged watched your whole series of decluttering videos. You my lovely, are a total breath of fresh air, when you opened that cardboard box filled with cardboard boxes I nearly spat my coffee everywhere and choked myself, it was so expected yet unexpected at the same time, hilarious. Keep it up, your doing so great. I think I’ve found another favourite RUclipsr ❤️❤️

The compulsive part of me says to move the bins and paint cans from the back wall and fill it with the coupon stuff from the other shelves. They seem to be shorter spaces anyway but also imagine opening the door to the basement and ahhhh, ( cue angels singing) The ENTIRE wall completely filled with your glorious stockpile!!!!!!🤣😅😂

I’m a new subscriber binge watching your decluttering & organizing videos. You’re really inspiring me big time. You remind me of myself when you talk about your husband putting all those boxes in the basement. My husband complains about all our clutter & “stuff” but when I try to start decluttering he gets upset with me getting rid of things that we no longer even use or need. I’m 72 so we have plenty to declutter if I could just get him on board. I still try & you have really motivated me.

For real though, on the keeping stuff you haven't used. I watch Hoarder's Heart, and it hits her at different points when to finally ditch something. I know if I had my own house, I'd have a bunch of awesome stuff. Being forced to move so often has me down to almost the bare minimum. People are so strange when it comes to listening to others who are doing the trends. I've got stuff I regret getting rid of that was irreplaceable. I'm not about to listen to a stranger with an ugly, en vogue home! A grain of salt, people! So much respect to you Jodi :)

I want to thank you for being so honest. I have loads of clutter but suffer from Chronic Fatigue so starting clearing has seemed beyond me. However you show the mess, warts and all, and explain that you clear in small amounts to get it cleared. I'm starting today, I feel it's alright now to say 'ok I've had enough for today' without feeling a failure. Thank you once again and keep on with the videos - they are inspiring!

Just found you and you have inspired me to finally go down to the basement and declutter (just put blinders on to do the laundry!). I love that you say I don't have to get rid of everything, if it means something I can keep it. My friends who were helping me move four years ago, told me to just toss, but I was rushing to move and didn't want to spend the time as I was stressed enough. Now after two floods in the basement it's a need (but still procrastinating somewhat, LOL) but now its happening one box at a time. I feel for you with the TV, I have a large one that recently died but it weighs well over a hundred pounds and I can't move it, will have to save money to get someone to take it out for me!

Marie Kondo says to leave sentimental stuff until the very end. When you get to a box/tote of sentimental stuff leave it, and keep going. It has helped me so much to follow this method. =) The boxes, and your hubby, makes me laugh!! Too funny and totally relatable.

Late getting to your videos. I LOVE LOVE LOVE your insight with declutter. I've got a few things that I do not wear, but they are sentimental to me. My husband is military and we lived all over. Thus I have military base shirts that coincide with where he worked at that moment. I can't wear them anymore, but I see them as I clean and grab for things. Got my dad's shirts that I cannot wear as they do not look right on me. But he passed quicky and it's a nice memorial for me to see. ❤️❤️. Basement and coupon stockpile looks fab!!!

There’s a place near us (also MIchigan) called GFL Environmental that I drive my large amounts of recycling to. They have bins where you can drop off large amounts of cardboard because I also feel bad when I leave so much for the recycling guys. 😀 I treat it like the Goodwill or shelters where I take my stuff the day that I’m decluttering and it makes my space feel so much better.

OMG I have a teal stained glass votive holder in our down stairs bathroom from Party Light! It's probably 20 years old now. I do try and follow the "If you haven't used it in xx months, it's gotta go" But we're in a pandemic? We've been in lockdowns off and on?? Things are crazy right now?? I also have 2 big plastic boxes in the garage for my sentimental stuff. And as long as all the sentimental stuff fits, I don't worry about it! Keep your Party Lights, Jodi!

I would look at local home health aid organizations in terms of donating those briefs. They may not take them right out but they do help with elderly patients or mentally handicapped adults who may benefit from them and may point you in a good direction. As you said they can get very expensive.

Jodi Dunn, that looks amazing!! Your progression is mind-blowing and so motivating. I can't wait to see the pictures of it without all of the donations out. It's understandable that you are needing to look at another area. When you go down to get product you can always see if a donation item jumps out at you. It's easy enough to grab something and head back upstairs with it to a box or your car. If nothing pops out, that's OK too. You'll keep going down there and your mind will adjust to things so they don't seem to have such a hold. I wish I could give you a hug right now because you really deserve a big celebratory hug for doing so dang well! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

That was unbelievable. You did a wonderful job in two weeks. The chunks of time is definitely the way to go. Delighted you found the precious picture with your gran. Yes the sentimental stuff is tough but as my nanny (dads Mam) used to always say ‘it’s important to wash out your eyes’ and a cry is good for the soul too. The charity shop must love to see you coming every week with wonderful treasures. Stay safe and healthy. Mary, Joes wife 👏👍💐

OMG Jodi, I have to say what a blessing you are. Sharing as open & honestly as you do is so encouraging to me. When you shared about your grandparents I was chocking right up. So good that you found that picture 🥰 Also I was a Partylite addict in the 80-90’s , so seeing those boxes really brought me a smile. I still use many of those pieces in my home today. Thanks for the great content 👍

OMG! 😳. You’ve come a long way 👍 … suggestion : in future, start storing items in clear containers… sooo much easier to see at a glance where things are besides labelling them.. saves time from opening and closing solid coloured bins when you’re not sure what’s in them… also do not store items in cardboard boxes as over time they start to smell as they will collect moisture and deteriorate… Love your videos 😃

Jodi, I am laughing so much because of a few different things. For one, my husband puts all the empty boxes in the shed, like from EVERYTHING! He buys a new TV, the box goes in the shed, a new watch, the box goes in the shed. I guess it's a man thing. Every now and again when he's in there I'll follow him and say hey, since we don't have that television anymore, do yo think we could get rid of the box it came in? Then he'll get rid of a few boxes but he is the worst with that too. And I think I mentioned this months ago, but I'm a Twilight junkie so to speak and I see that bucket or something and it caught my eye almost immediately with the three main characters on it so I started laughing. And as far as in-home parties kind of thing, I used to go and have held plenty of Tupperware and Home Interior parties. I still have a few things. I also was into Princess House glassware, if you recall that one. I do still have and use a ton of that stuff. That was another in-home party type of thing as well. And as far as getting rid of or keeping after a certain amount of time. I don't abide by any of that. Sometimes it's due to sentimental reasons but other times - and I've learned over the years - as soon as I get rid of something is when I have a need/want for it and wish I had it. So if I even remotely think I'll need something I keep it. It's organized and I know where it is but I keep a lot of things "just in case." And I'm very bad when it comes to sentimental. I don't have a tote for my kids, I have two trunks that are way too big and full but I can't bear to get rid of anything from them. I have every Halloween costume they wore, all their Christening candles, outfits, etc., every school report card, and just a ton of things, their soccer uniforms, my daughter's girl scout uniform. I can't get rid of them. And I don't know if anyone else did this and some people find it repulsive while others have done it as well. I have every single one of my children's baby teeth. They are in individual very tiny ziploc-type baggies, like you would get with a ring purchase, very small, and I wrote which tooth it was and the day they lost it on a tiny post-it and put it in the baggie with the tooth and I have all of those. I also have an entire drawer in a filing cabinet with calendars from years and years because I wrote every single thing, like first step, first word, etc. on the date on the calendar, and of course from which child, etc. and a lot of those important milestones so that I can reference them or just look back. And I wrote my children tons of letters for them to read when/if they want. I started doing that when my daughter was born and I have a big file of all the letters to them. You probably think I'm totally crazy but that's nothing I haven't heard before. LOL. So yes, I get not getting rid of things. Thank goodness for storage areas, right? EVERYTHING happens for a reason! So glad you found that picture. I could hear how much your voice was crackling while you were talking about your grandmother and grandfather. You brought tears to my eyes. It is very difficult and I still have a lot of difficulty and break down more often than I care to when I think about my parents and my sister. It's something you never really "get over" and I don't really want to anyway because when you have that much love in your heart, you're not going to ignore it or wish it wasn't there. That's how I think about it. The more love, the more difficult it is and that's OK. And the basement, it looks amazing. That is definitely a true transformation from what it was two weeks ago to now. You should be extremely proud. And you don't have to worry about your detergents freezing anymore. They will stay a more constant temperature being in the basement and they are super-organized so you know exactly what you might need to get more of or what you might want to give to your other family members, etc. So that's perfect. Have a great evening!

Nancy the amount of things we have in common just continues to amaze me!! I have all my kids baby teeth as well 😂😂
I’m not nearly as organized as you though. That’s a great idea writing the date they lost them. Donna just lost 2 teeth over the last month. Yep I kept them!
Omg I’m glad I’m not alone with the husband that hoards boxes!!! What in the world.
It drives me crazy. But I suppose things I do drives him crazy so it’s just a balance.
You’re so right. The pain never goes away from losing those we love so dearly. I was trying so hard not to cry when I was doing the voice over but I just couldn’t hold it together. That picture means so much to me and just brought back so many memories and feelings.
And I absolutely don’t think you’re crazy for any of it! Writing the letter is such a beautiful thing. I used to work with someone that wrote their children letters every year on their birthday and put them in her safe deposit box to give them when they are older. I always thought it was such a neat idea and I wish I would have done that.
