This is my first time visiting Mindanao, Philippines! I'm starting off in the city of Davao, Philippines and have landed just in time for the Kadayawan festival! In this video I explore Davao for the first time, eating street food, and meeting local Filipinos! Davao has exceeded my expectations, and as always, local Filipinos were fun and entertaining! Their gratitude in their faces and expressions was clear to see. Amazing that in a time when tech and high value items are so abundant in western kids lives, that a bracelet a necklace and a skewer can bring such joy. You also looked like you enjoyed seeing how happy they were, brilliant just brilliant

The kids are so cute and polite. Being able to speak English with everyone must be great. Makes me rethink living in Thailand…
They really were! All of them! I do love Thailand too, but that's one downside of living there is the language barrier. You can usually communicate with locals in broken English there, but it's not the same as speaking to someone who grew up speaking English every day like many do in Philippines
different vibes Thailand is a tourist commercial magnet but there are no thai children in Thailand, Thailand has the 3rd lowest birthrate in asia and with a declining population, Its economy will be surpassed by Vietnam and Philippines in less than 5 years time. I guess its a battern buddhism = low birthrate, China, Japan, Thailand etc

@@fashionfgurl18 no his not... a bunch of russians are living in davao city that they even created their own village in samal... most foreign white people go to davao via singapore and malaysia...
@@snowstorm0914 there is direct flights from Singapore, Malaysia ?. anyways good its increasing, I heard from many that there arent many koreans, japanese or whites in davao compared to Cebu or Manila. They also say its because there are muslims and terrorism.
The reaction of those little kids was epic. And the one asking "are you sure about this" was so sweet.

Absolutely, Jonathan is a blessing for these children and in fact for all of us by sharing the happiness and cheerfulness of his life.
Now look at that... kids in Davao City speaks English pretty well, its kinda like their native language to be able to speak it at that young age.... good job kids
I am a davawenya and I am having a difficulties speaking/learning English bcoz at home we use to use our language which is bisaya then at school we need to learn Tagalog and English.
Man I forgot how vibrant and fun the Philippines is, I got to visit again soon

The festival serves as a celebration and a thanksgiving for life's many blessings, including nature's gift of beauty, cultural riches, abundant harvests, and peace of mind.

In the Philippines you will find that cultural identity unites all people from all ages, races and nationalities. That is something you will never experience from western and european countries no matter how well of those countries are.

I've experienced Kadayawan many years ago in 1998 and we* (w/ officemates for our office Camera Club shoots) enjoyed it very much. There were various schools competition with varying nice costumes and dances. Then we ate at Kanaway restaurant with delicious seafoods dishes.

My English pen pal, now husband, landed at Davao City International Airport in January 1992. In December of the same year we got married and resided in England then moved to Scotland. Thirty years later we retired here in Portugal. We have two grown-up children (1 in New Zealand and the other in the UK) and 3 grandchildren.

I can't get this smile off my face as you are similar to me... constantly say yes. It's difficult for me to say no when i know I can afford to help kids and small vendors... don't know if i would've done the face paint though haha... All the good vibes Jonathan. Hahah.. yeah I may not do the face paint next time! I agree, all of those snacks were around a dollar in all.. and the necklaces around the same price each. I’m more than happy to do it! There’s a lot to do on Cebu island for sure.. it’s a massive island. I haven’t scratched the surface there and just north of Cebu island is Bantayan and Malapascua which I’ve heard really good things about! Thanks for watching and have a good trip!
