Binge drinking and getting hammered is not a good thing but it is socially accepted, expected and even encouraged. My dad went sober in April 1984 (he died seven years ago) and he always celebrated his "new birthday". Every single year. I once asked him why he'd stopped drinking and he said: " because you wouldn't be talking to me now, you'd be visiting my grave". Keep up with the good work, Dan. Thanks for your content and for that CLAP in your hands 👏 everytime you introduce your guests!

I am sober from crack cocaine 😊❤for 25 years. From alcohol 20 years, and I am proud. I quit smoking in 2004 while in paralegal studies. Dan, take it one day at a time. Set a goal. You have been loved here. Your craft is great. However, health should be more paramount. You got this.

Dan, what you've explained about finishing work, but staying behind for someone who comes in brink of closing or a tad late, and accommodating them, I feel that goes for every profession under the sun. It all depends on mind-set. Loved this Q&A! I am so behind on video watching but I made time for this one! Love your work, big fan. You have taught me how to cut my dad's hair! You giving info on the length of the blades / clippers was invaluable to me.

Great and inspirational video, Dan. Two things you mentioned.
    1. Comment about cutting curly hair and if it will stay curly or not? I chuckled because for me, my head has like 48 cowlicks and natural curls when it gets passed a certain length. Until then I look like a locker spaniel!
    2. Congratulations on being sober. It's been about seven years for me, and I can't believe what I was doing to myself.
I truly appreciate your value of staying willing to learn and grow in your craft. You're a joy to watch!

That’s the most difficult! A client you put your heart and soul into, they look a million percent better, and they don’t like it! I’ve found that over the years, those are usually the clients that no one can make happy! One client I’ve been working on for over 3 years, her friends ( also my clients) love the new look. She ALWAYS complains about something. Her sister told me recently that’s she is SO picky, her last hairstylist refused her service.
The main way to not let it shake your world, either do t waste your time in them, or just knowing you did your BEST and let it go

I started following this channel before the pandemic, and i became a fan of Dan's work and liked him in general. He always showed kindness and professionalism, so saying he became sober long after that came as a surprise but it makes me very happy. I had a similar weight loss journey, i was overweight since my teenage years up to my late 20's, until i decided to just eat less dinner, literally lattes with cookies lol, the results were amazing. People were actually freaking out about how much weight i lost and i was also getting certain looks i wasn't used to, i knew i was looking good lol, but some people close to me said that i looked too skinny, even sick after seeing my chubbier self for years, they were used to that, so like Dan i found a happy medium, no way i'll go back to being that chubby guy again lol, congrats Dan! much love from Venezuela.

Here I have been sitting wondering if you ever had female clients and now I know! But I have to ask- do they have shorter haircuts or manish haircuts? Or do they have more feminine styles? I ask because my oldest daughter is a trained barber for 25 years and now has a hair salon where they service both women and men- she had to go back to get further credits in order to be able to cut women's hair...

I worked in a ladies and gents Hairdressers in the 1980’s. There was a barber working there who started work in the 50’s, his method of barbering was wild to me, what he did shouldn’t have worked, using thinning techniques as well as scissor over comb, but the end result worked. I wish I could go back now and ask him what the hell he was doing. 😌

Lol, I've gotten the dreaded text from my hair person of the time more than once where they inform me that they're moving or leaving the business for a new life. It's awful finding a new person that can do a scissor cut. Most barbers in the states just give high fades with the clippers and they aren't very comfortable when I tell them that I want to leave some length.

I think you’ve got to have belief in yourself - everything you believe about yourself is reflected back to you in your reality, so if you want to be the best barber you have to believe you’re the best, if you want to become wealthy in this career, you have to have self worth! If you belief you can do it, you will 😊 Excellent Q&A xx

I am way beyond 40 and still have a pretty good head of hair. I like to wear the sides short because I live in a warm climate. I was surprised by your definitive answer on no fades for men over 40. I'm not trying to be "trendy" but I like a good tight taper on the sides and back. Why do you feel there is an upper age limit?

Overcoming addiction is totally dependent on two things. The first is "Surrendering", and the second is "Willingness". Surrendering to the delusional belief that "by ourselves" we will overcome today, the same thing we couldn't overcome yesterday, or the day before, or the week, month, year, or decades before that!
Then having the willingness to live differently. By "differently" I mean literally moving our feet in a way that allows us to live in the solution, instead of the problem! Without surrendering and willingness, we're phucked! All the best...Mark 5/8/1994 ✌❤
