The dark side of steam workshop.... you can find even a world that can crash the game, and oh boy you need to really want to crash the game, Terraria is one of the most resistant game to crashes, even making an entire world worth of sand blocks won't make it crash...
...but putting a waterfall out of bounds crashes the game consistently
Changing your audio via disconnecting Bluetooth consistently crashes the game for me.

This world isn't even stretched in a normal way.
It's stretched in 3D.
Actually if I'm not mistaken this is a vertical shear function using a sine wave as part of its algorithm.

For those wondering what on earth happened here: The world was violently corrupted (and not the purple kind) hence why terraria doesn't want to load it. Terraria world data is stored in vertical lines (Probably for ease of compression) so when the data is corrupted those lines are distorted in to this mess
reminds me of the update from 1.1 to 1.2 on the xbox 360, my world also went like that on that update

Could it be that somehow the size of the vertical lines is kinda offset, so the game starts to misplace blocks more and more? Like the wrong worldsize was given somehow?
@@umbaupause it's when less blocks are placed per-column than there should so it stretches and warps everything... so basically you're right

This looks like someone took a world and ran it through some kind of formula. Something like rectangular to polar?
It's an issue with worldgen I believe, something about opening a world that isn't quite generated yet. It happened to me once before on the ps3 version of the game and I haven't seen it after 2 more years of ps3 and like 4 of PC gameplay.
I feel like someone deleted/added/changed something in the world file, corrupting the whole thing.

@@infiniteplanes5775 so I found out certain parts of space are inaccessible. Crashes at some spots. definitely gonna take a LOT longer than a typical terraria world.

@@AshernCaelia it's taking forever to make progress but yes! full plat armor is all i have right now, and cave bats are the actual bane of my existence rn, but im still goin strong! hard to progress when one cave bat or black slime manages to slip in to one of the tunnels with me. definitely near 100 deaths cause of em.
It seems like how this world’s terrain was created was by displacing every few columns of blocks by some variation of tan(x). That’s what causes the wavy patterns on the mini map.

The world looks like it was run through the scares scrambler, the vinesauce rom corrupter AND the windows glitch harvester
The error happened in the world generation likely, like it tried to generate a world with a diferent a size than the real world size, and cosidering that the vertical distorcion rate is diferent depending on witch part of the world the generated world size probably changed mid way multiple times.

I remember a long time ago I was playing on my 360, when my world got a bit corrupted, just not to that last one's extreme. The right side of the world got shifted up so you'd eventually get to the top of the world. It cycled through and reset to normal-ish near the right ocean, only difference was all the lava from the sky-underworld was on top the water.

honestly im more interested in how the world was made! is it really an error or did they use some kind of formula because theres definitely still a consistent pattern and you can still regonize which parts of ghe map should have what, like the outstretched dungeon for example

The spheres world is a pretty cool way to make it more manageable to create a custom world, could be kinda cool if someone modded the whole game to be space biome and made an asteroid belt world inspired by this one. Could have it's own little twist on the progression with custom chest loot locked behind pickaxe power/dungeon guardian gated blocks too, probably sci-fi themed stuff. I wonder what fighting space wall of flesh would be like... Sounds pretty cool. Perhaps just set gravity to normal, but I'm not gonna lie, if they COMPLETELY get rid of the downward pull like a real asteroid belt, that'd be quite the unique challenge mod + map, grapple and dash items etc. would seem so vital

This happened to my original 2013 world on Xbox 360, but only to about 10% of the map. There was parts of the underworld next to a floating island, really weird stuff.
