Excerpt from "LOCAL SCENES IN INDIA AND THE TAJ MAHAL: COLONEL eALEXANDER PERSONAL FILM 2 (1947)"
India’s Islamic heritage in the 1940s - This collection of amateur shots features some of the most important landmarks of Islamic power in India.
This second collection of footage shot by Col. E.T.H Alexander takes in some of the most important landmarks of Islamic power in India. Alexander guides us around the Qutb complex, built by the founder of the Delhi Sultanate (1206-1526), and the incredible Mughal complex at Agra: we see the Fort, Jama Masjid and tomb of I'timād-Ud-Daulah, as well as Fatehpur Sikri, the one-time-capital of the Mughal state under Emperor Akbar, and the Taj Mahal.
This film was made in 1946 or early 1947, on the eve of Britain’s withdrawal from the subcontinent and just before Alexander left India for good. During WWII, Alexander served in the Engineer Corps of the Indian Army and considerable footage is devoted to wells and water holes that show the sophisticated nature of Mughal water engineering. Perhaps the film recorded a final tour of some of India’s most important historic monuments but, made just before India was partitioned on religious grounds, it is also a poignant record of the Muslim heritage of undivided India.

Till mid 90s Mehrauli was quite green.
Visit Mehrauli and nearby sanjay van. It has more greenery now than earlier time shown in video. Plus look all the older photos of delhi, it was almost without trees except ridge area, now the tree cover in delhi is way higher.

this was filmed from qutub minar....you guys can also see 0:30 iron pillar...and on 0:09 half build structure is another uncompleted bigger qutub minar.. ..i personally visited this place in 2013.
You should have received the Bharat Ratna that you had gone for a personal visit here, it has been 26 years, I go out in front of Qutub Minar every day, once I accidentally took a school tour, I never looked back after that.😂✌🏻

It was an era of violence, abject indigence, rampant illiteracy and very poor standards of living so far as India is concerned. Nature is not so much beautiful as forbidding and intimidating. What we as humans have done over the course of centuries is inherent to our natural instinct of effectuating innovation. It is not for the supposedly altruistic purpose of protecting Nature, but to protect our sorry existence, that we must minimize pollution and suchlike. Nature is strong; she is eternal and she shall not miss us should we wipe ourselves out. It is our hubris that makes us think she needs our protection, when the truth is that we can neither protect her nor destroy her.
Just in a short span of 70 years Delhi converted from a semi urban settlement into a bustling metro ,thanks to the past leadership of the country
