    Men like Mr. Hashmi are the true storytellers of our rich and diverse history. In an age of myriad selfies and Instagram pics, his well-read and naturally presented short but informative video provides us a wonderful insight to the seldom seen and quickly forgotten images from the past. Please keep up the brilliant work Mr. Hashmi, your brief account of history is truly refreshing to the mind, in our otherwise claustrophobic, contorted and polluted discourse of it.👍

    After studying Architecture in Delhi and being a history lover I loved spending time near these old building. The line about metro is absolutely spot on , Indian ministry doesn't cares enough for our heritage. Every time I see a highway exchange, metro going 100ft above the ground, I feel the pain of the city. How many heritage site have been destroyed or just the sight. You build a metro good but if it is 50 ft above the ground in front of a heritage building I cant see what's on the other side. the view is the most important thing in these old cities, this why people come to Delhi to enjoy these old building and it must not be blocked by so called modernism.

    I grew up in Jama Masjid and studied at Ludlow castle school close to Kashmiri gate. I used to admire these buildings. Those gates would seem a melancholic observer of everything that happened and everything that changed in Shahjahanabad. And finally the pernicious question bothering my mind is answered in this video by Dr, Hashmi, gates facing other regions were named so like Lahore gate and Ajmeri gate but why does Delhi have a gate called Delhi gate? He nailed it, the city was called shahjahanabad and previous city Delhi was near Mehrauli. My subconscious is finally closing a chapter haha. My family would read about Delhi, and it’s history on weekends from the compilation ‘Nama e Nigara Dehli ’ and it all seemed so wonderful, so much like living a history when I would understand why a door and a Gali is named so and so. Thanks a thousand times for uploading this beautiful video

      But another pernicious question remains is then how and when the name Shahjahanabad became to be known as Delhi again. Who renamed Shahjahanabad to Delhi and why? Was it the Britsh?

    • @qha6104
      @qha6104 3 года назад +2

      @@neetishsharma9061 I am totally guessing, British could have found it easier to rename larger region as delhi, and founded Lutyens New Delhi right outside wall city. Compared to new delhi, the old part could only be distinguished as old delhi or old city.

    • @himanshugupta7933
      @himanshugupta7933 3 года назад +1

      @@neetishsharma9061 dehli or Delhi or Mehrauli was only delhi before the formation of shahjahanad or walled city and Lutyens delhi or new Delhi. Delhi is Anglicized name. Britishers gave this name to larger urbanized area of Mehrauli and it's surroundings. Why they did it? Well, the sole reason was to gain stronger and better administrative control over the whole area of modern Delhi. And they included Shahjahanabad in Delhi region, only because of its symbolic and economic value, so that they could control business from there.
      Even today old delhi contribute almost half in Delhi's GDP.

Mr anchor your efforts in giving the detail of this city and its surrounding are worth to be appreciated but if you had shown the actual gates or their place of existence it would have been far better.Thank you.

    After killing a person you can be forgiven if the family say so
    And if you pay enough money is a possible term in islam in hinduism . its not possible that you commit as many sins as you and just build a tample and you will be forgiven
    With all due respect be a teacher and avoid making such statements
    If you do kindly refer to a real and authentic source not a paper cutting
