Colonel Reb has always been there for Ole Miss... I am a student at Ole Miss and one reason I wanted to attend was to be able to meet the famous Col Reb. I of course can't really do that because I entered Ole Miss in 2009 and he has been gone since 2003. I grew up loving Col Reb and we need him back!!!! We are not the Rebels without Colonel Reb

Postings here reference "traditions", but the fact remains that the Col. Reb mascot costume has only been a part of Ole Miss football since '79. Everyone would agree that waving rebel flags inside Vaught-Hemingway is a bad idea- a "tradition" that OM fans have walked away from. Why then is it so hard to walk away from Col. Reb? If you ask military folks- the worst thing they consistently hear is, "well, that's the way it's always been done." At times, we must look away. It's time, Reb fans.
As an Alabama fan, I wish people would stop dragging Ole Miss's past through the mud. Its freaking 2011 not the 1960's. Different groups have tried to ruin every tradition they have. I mean Alabama and other SEC schools were just as racist back then as Ole Miss but we moved on and the world accepted it. I wouldn't be surprised if they drop the Rebels nickname soon. They do that then just shut the university. Fuck mascots and songs, its the people who make Ole Miss a great university, Roll Tide!
I am from Ohio and I definitely hope Mississipians begin a boycott of the games until you gain back your original mascot, the one you all care for. Let them know you will NOT stand for this!

Hell while you're at it let's change Ole Miss Rebels to 'Ole Miss Billy Yanks' since 'rebel' is a term used to describe a Confederate regular.
A racist nickname? "Rebels" is a racist term? What about the slave rebellions in the old days? Were those slaves racist? There's South American rebels, Asian rebels, white rebels... in what way is the term "rebel" racist?

All during the video, with the exception of a few bars of Dixie, the song played was the so-called "Battle Hymn of the Republic" - a "Yankee" song. Most folks don't know the real story behind it or what it really means; they think it is a Christian hymn but it isn't. Actually, if it WERE, it would have been banned like Colonel Reb! The time has come to stop all the "p.c." lies about Southern history and heritage and for people of ALL colors - North and South - to stand up for the truth.
