Jay was the first person I thought of when I heard Duane Eddy had passed away. Jay toured all over the world with his band Br5-49. If you ever watched any of the videos on The Musician's HOF channel, Jay was behind the camera, did research, booked guests and did a lot of the heavy lifting on the channel. Now he's an educator at The Country Music HOF, a writer at American Songwriter Magazine and most importantly , he was friends with Duane Eddy.
Jay shares a lot of great stories on his Facebook page and you should definitely follow him.

Duane Eddy played on the 2014 release of Mary Gauthier’s song ‘How You Learn to Live Alone’ written by Mary Gauthier and Gretchen Peters from the album ‘Trouble and Love’. The album its played often in my house. The credits are:
‘Lead Vocal, Acoustic Guitar - Mary Gauthier Electric Guitar - Guthrie Trapp Upright Bass - Viktor Krauss Drums - Lynn Williams Piano - Jimmy Wallace Harmonium - Darrell Scott Background Vocals - Darrell Scott and Beth Nielsen Chapman, McCrary Sisters Electric Guitar Solo - Special thanks to the legendary Duane Eddy, the eternal master of Twang.’ Included was Buddy Miller in making the full recording. ☘
Got to see Duane Eddy once in the early 80's in San Francisco ....... Pretty amazing night ! Backup band was Ry Cooder , Hal Blain , Steve Douglas and I think Nick Lowe on bass ....
Wild times !!!! Great interview !
👍
That's a very impressive back up band

👍
@@artemisXsidecross Hi, hope you are having a nice evening
@@KittyCarlile-490
I have had another day of reflection, but with few who would ever want to discuss it. It is the wear and tear of an artist being drawn down to be a writer.
Thank you so much for paying tribute to Duane. I grew up with his music here in England through my father being a fan.
Wonderful! Thank you, Otis. I was playing a casino gig in Reno in the 80s when a cocktail waitress delivered a note to me onstage on a napkin. It said “Nice playing, my friend! - Duane Eddy”
I ran out into the crowd after we finished the song, but he was long gone. RIP, Twangmaster
The echo isn't on the original video file that I uploaded. It seems to be a problem on RUclips's end. It appears to only last about a minute, so please stick with it. Hopefully it will get sorted soon. All apologies for the hassle.
Have we become so pristine that an echo is distracting…☘
It's Duane!!!
Check out when it happens! 😅 when the topic turns to how many records he sold (right after the prank story!!!) A wink and a laugh from up above... ❤
Seems fitting with Duane’s use of the grain silo for echo.
The echo is cool but not the Memphis echo I grew up listening to. 👍
I think the echo sound cool and might be the ghost of Duane Eddy. I think he was originally from the town I grew up in. Corning, NY. I love image of Duane Eddy, Eddie Cochran , and Richie Valens looking for Mexican food in New York.
I think it's Duane!!!! He said "put a little slapback on that story!" 😅😅😅
R.I.P. Duane Eddy. Thank you Jay and Otis.
He was a true gentleman, as are both of you.
They keep leaving us, with nobody to replace them.
Take care folks.
My Hero Duane Eddy so glad met you Duane you were so kind to me . Miss you loads already . The King of Twang . What a lovely guy and nobody like you . Will always play your songs and tell kids today about you . R.I.P my friend
Thanks gentlemen, man! playing a pickup with the incredible Duane Eddy....could there be anything cooler. Thanks Otis, brightened my day brother. You're appreciated.
Duane Eddy pranks the production team from the grave!!! I immediately felt a strange sensation at 1:20 into this video...sudden slapback echoplex!!! Wow. What a premonition-like moment. An echo from the past... "part of rock n roll's DNA"
Whoa…What’s in this coffee? 😄 Great stories!
I saw Duane perform three times, 1963 Woolwich Granada, London, 2010 Royal Festival Hall, London and 2018 London Palladium, each time his sound was as good as the original recordings.
A short list of albums to check out ‘ Have Twangy Guitar Will Travel’ , ‘ Especially for You’ and ‘ The Twangs the Thang’ also many of the ‘B’ sides to his hit 45’s, ‘First Love First Tears’ , ‘Shuckin’ , ‘ Stretchin’ Out’ and ‘ Saints and Sinners’
Nice echo 😎 just ribbing you lol very cool to see you in the video!! 🐿️😎🐿️
I have learned so much about great musicians through your channel over the past to years, Thanks Otis
I suck at English, I also have learned so much from these videos but it's two years. Just saying. Ignore this we all get ya. Just smile n make the world a better place two. That's all we can do!
To
Too
All we can do 2
Thank you 2
Thanks so much for another wonderful relaxing video on a Saturday morning. This was a wonderful tribute to Duane. You and your guests have brought me a lot of smiles and joy. Have a great weekend. 👍🎸🎶❤️
I don't know that I can add anything constructive other than to say Duane was a player's player and a down to earth guy. We used to be in local 257.....
my Top Guitar Hero of all time, Saw Duane in the 80's amazingly he sound just like the records RIP
GREAT VID!!!! Duane was the 1st guitar god for me, as a multi instrument=iLList. always loved the tenor sax guitar interplay of his Surfabilly Music, Whether the Tenor was Boots and or Plas. miss BR, big time. Cheers from the hockey hotbed of SpoCanada
Thank you 🙏-I hadn’t heard. Wonderful look into his life. Gonna pull out my records and play it loud.
RIP Duane, thank you for that unforgettable sound.
I didn't know if Duane would cross enough lines for there to be a video on here but I'm more than happy that there is this in-depth of one
Great tribute video Otis. Thanks!
All the great one’s, no matter where they may be found, always leave their art as a larger than life tribute.
A tear of sorrow mixed with joy is legacy. ☘
My background in life is in racing, not music - but I love music. My guitar aspirations are only to one day learn Hotel California (I picked an easy one, yes?)
Even in my simple naive goals with guitar....I love music and just want to thank you again, Otis, for this content - and you are perfect at how you do these.
Still hope to catch you here in Louisville or up near your neck of the woods.
You are a straight arrow.
The things Jay talked about with Duane remind me of going places with the late professional bowler, Dick Weber. (also from Indianapolis, but spent much of his life in the Lou) Talked to everyone. Signed everything. Remembered many of them from years past. His kids are much the same way.
Maybe it's a generational thing. Not everyone is like that.
Duane Eddy used a thumb pick all the time but one day, Al Casey asked if he could borrow it- and immediately snapped it in half- and handed back the pick part and that's how me moved to the flat pick! A friend of mine was in a package tour in the UK- November 1963- headlined by Duane and Little Richard with The Shirelles and various British bands-one of which my friend was in- Gene Vincent's British Blue Caps but Gene was often a no show due to his condition- as was the case on this tour. Early on during a rehearsal, Duane came up to him and complimented him on his tone! He is a total tone freak and Duane recognised it- his guitar at that time was a green Gretsch Country Club that got stolen. He said that Jim Horn helped them load up their gear and Jim may have helped load up Duane's mega-heavy Magnatone amp, too! I bought "Tokyo Hits" years ago- what a great album!
Thank you for this Gentlemen .
Cali guy. Spent a year in Manhattan and in the late 70's there was MAYBE 3 places that were 65% as good as a generic suburban So Cal Mexican joint. Food had a distinct Cuban taste...lol. I can imagine how slim the pickins were in '58...Rest In Peace Duane Eddy!!
Smilin’ Jay. Awesome!
Great interview! I hope you guys can be at Duane's
funeral.
Thañk.youfo.r,

My first guitar hero ! Great tribute to the 'King of Twang', thanks guys.
Thanks so much for this interview. I feel that as time marches on that fewer people are aware of Duane’s music, accomplishments, and who he was.
Thanks again.
Fair winds and following seas, Duane Eddy 🤍
Thank you 🙏🏻 You are missed 🤍
Thank you, Otis
Thank you Jay
Duane was a huge influence early on for me. Loved his early works and the Art of Noise collaboration.
Looks like I have some more listening to do
Be good to you 🙏🏻🤍
❤ I listened to 40 miles of bad road from my crib
This is awesome, more and more I am enjoying this channel. I grew up on this music but turned to punk then classical and jazz and Bob Dylan as an adult, I'm living the old school rock n roll. Another thing I live is blues. Especially Lightnin Hopkins and later Junior Kimbrough and lots else....
Thank you Jay and Otis. Very nice tribute to Duane Eddy. Enjoyed learning more about him.
Another wonderful video from Otis, Maybe the best tribute to Duane that I will see. Thank you for this.
Another new world to me illuminated... wonderful reminiscences, Otis.
Great interview. Sure wish I'd known Jay back in my Indiana days.
Man, i just saw this video, and i hadn't heard the news. I love Duane.
Excellent interview !!!! Much appreciated
What an outstanding interview!! Thank you!
Ohhh I loved this!! Thank you lads.
Thanks! Gotta dust off some vinyl.
Otis, a question for you as a performer: One of the songs on an early Jerry Jeff Walker album was titled, “Hairy-assed Hillbillies,” and it’s about how musicians deal with the letdown after a performance by getting together with a fellow musician or some such. I’m fascinated that there’s a song about that situation. It’s on a 1971 album with the title, “Jerry Jeff Walker.” Do you, as a performer, experience that?
#@youtube please check echo that was not there for the videographer when uploaded.
Duane lives on.
❤
"I always maintained that Hank Williams started rock and roll. Ever listen to "Move It on Over" and some of those things?
Then play "Rock Around the Clock" by Bill Haley; it's practically the same track." ~ Duane Eddy
Echo starting at minute#1
RIP 🙏😞
I knew he looked familiar. Took me a minute to figure it out.
Thought he played a Guild with De armond pick ups 🤔
He started off with a Gretsch Chet Atkins 6120 in the 1950s and then in the early 1960s he got endorsed by Guild which he played through the 1980s at least …. He later had a Gibson model with DeArmond style pickups and eventually went back to Gretsch.
@@sethtravins3647 tu Thank you for the clarification... I had a Guild years back, a Starfire, and am still looking for those single coil white DeArmonds... and Guild humbuckers were great as well..."pick it pretty" as they say 🙏
Of course there is verb and echo showing up in a video about Duane Eddy!?
Hi 18:29 ❤
