many decades before federation, people in all colonies still referred to themselves as "australian", ie inhabitants of the continent australia. and the australian impressionists epitomise the national self-consciousness then emerging (circa 1880s). it didn't just magically come into being the moment of federation
@@oneeyedphotographer idk. should we throw away "french impressionism" because those artists didn't paint in all every department/commune? "australian impressionism" is a helpful way of describing a stylistic movement and aesthetic approach, not strictly geographic in scope. the term doesn't necessitate painting in every state/territory
@@mehhhhist There was an Aboriginal painter included. A Victorian. I can't believe that the only Australian impressionist painters were in NSW or Victoria. Not even in Qld or Tas.
All art is impressionism !!! Abstract art is first impressionism... They cannot paint !!! Second level of impressionism is painters who have progressed past the rubbish and have achieved a recognisable level of skill.... The third level is called realism and reflects painters who have excelled in the art of painting !!!! That is it !!! All this rubbish spouted by museums anout who painted what and how and why... is just nonsence, verbal imagination !!!
Australian Impressionism is world class, this exhibition has such fabulous art works and looks amazing, I just wish I could see it!
