    Shifted intake sprockets may indicate a stretched chain, not necessarily a worn sprocket on the balance shaft. Replacing the chain and tensioner may fix it and reduce the wear on the balance shaft sprocket.

    How the engine inside the vehicule come out and be on a on a stand ??? It's a miraculous of the god MERCEDES
    with the Mercedes technician angels. Nobody speak they must remove the gear box , flush the LDR ( the water in the radiator) flush the motor oil and the gear oil , keep out the gear box with specials tools and so on.
    It's sure i will be afraid by the job. In my time changing a timing chain was a simple job and we can do that on ours cars
    drinking beer and joking. Now we need experts and special tools because of the lobbies of cars ( MERCEDES , BMW , VW , TOYOTA and others ).
    And you must pay first to have a have a beautiful car , second to be able to take the road and third to keep your license.
    And more pay for the hidden failures of your car because it's well know that it's a MERCEDES failure on the M272 motor.
    Thank MERCEDES

      Im pist off. My r350 only got 133,200 miles on before timing chain strech. My intake manifold butterfly valve broke at 116k and the transmission control module took a dump at 100k miles im on my 3 hvac blower motor and tell me how when it snows they have the wipers go underneath the hood so you can not lift to clean so all the ice gets stuck down there! Mb is not smart they did not do real life testing

    Hi
    My 2006 C230 V6 2.5 M272 is making a constant ticking noise once the engine revs anything above idle. While driving the sound goes away if I take my foot of the accelerator. It sounds like the noise is coming from the left cylinder top, somewhere in the front.
    Does someone have an idea what could be the issue?

      There are a few replies from people who are confusing a TIMING BELT with a TIMING CHAIN. Belts are external and easy to replace. Chains are lubricated by engine oil and so therefore are inside a timing chain cover making them internal.

  • @SavedbyHim
    @SavedbyHim 2 года назад +2

    Chains do not stretch. The pins and links wear and created the impression that the chain has stretched but it's the pivot points that have all worn by a tiny bit and cumulatively makes the chain appear longer.

      @holeshot1721 7 месяцев назад

    I think the cams come out so when you turn the engine over stops the valves hitting pistons

    • @D4LM4R
      @D4LM4R 6 лет назад +1

      Yes I think this engine is interfering, and when they set the timing before they took out the shaft is to have valves in closed position or at least away from pistons so they can rotate crank shaft safely

  • @systemofadown158
    @systemofadown158 8 лет назад +1

    why are tye cams coming out?

      So when they have to turn the engine the valves will be completely closed and won't hit the piston.

      I know this is an older question but hopefully this reply will still be helpful to someone. The codes should be P0016 and P0017. Crank Angle and Camshaft Position Sensors. The PCM sees the pair lose sync and hangs a hard light.

    • @barrysimmons1884
      @barrysimmons1884 6 лет назад +3

      Several possibilities. Low grade oil that doesn't cling to the chain well (Wal-Mart oil changes etc.) , Aggressive driving habits (our teenage kids LOL) etc. Actually Mercedes should be praised because their modern chains are designed to last the life of the engine or changed easily (BEFORE they break) by using the old chain to pull in the new chain via a master link. Making a good portion of this process unnecessary. If the chain hasn't broken you only need to tear down to the rocker covers. My chain lasted 252,000 miles.

    • @shckltnebay
      @shckltnebay 6 лет назад +1

      44700 miles and needed a new balance shaft 06 E350 owned since 22k please tell me why I had the issue?

    • @D4LM4R
      @D4LM4R 6 лет назад +1

      Usually chain should outlast the engine, but sometimes Murphy’s Law comes to play like an utter bad luck (defective product) along with bad habits of flooring it drag-racing anytime every time possible, bad oil oil filter or both, etc, makes timing chains fail. It happens but most timing chains last pretty long time

    • @D4LM4R
      @D4LM4R 6 лет назад

      Also timing chain and chain tensioners use the engine oil for lubrication and pressure if no oil in the engine it’s possible that the timing chain gets damaged
