This is literally my all-time favourite Undertones song, and easily in my list of the ten best songs ever written by any artist. Must have easily played this song over 1000 times. As bassist Michael Bradley said about this song on one of the compilation CD sleeve notes: "John wrote this, and he played it for us, and our jaws dropped to the ground."
I LOVED this band as a kid when they did TOTP (which was quite often) - them and Buzzcocks seemed to be made of the same cloth, no hiding of regional accents, deceptively short simple songs and good playing. I remember watching this exact performance with my grandmother of all people and even she liked it! Make of that what you will…your reaction videos are constantly fun to watch and these are a real blast from the past.
@@ghichens3418 it's starting well my oldest son Strummer quit his building apprenticeship. On my recommendation i don't take crap from my employers unless I've messed up and his boss was a grumpy arsehole. And today Strummer started working for a motor mechanic cars and motors are his passion I'm very proud of him he just went knocking on doors and asking for work and he got his foot in the door . I don't think they will get it out now i just dropped his lunch off and he's got a Big Smile 😁 . How's your day my boy? . This is Fun dad it's definitely what i want to do!. 👏👏👏 I'm very happy and proud of him he's focused and on his way into the big wide world. VERY HAPPY DAD
Another good choice. Saw them live at the Commodore in Vancouver many years ago. Songs were short, catchy and had the audience wanting more. As you say in your 'reaction' fun. Fun, fun, fun!
Cheers Sir Col .. love this track , I think it’s cos they were all roughly my age , 17 when it came out and it was almost like “ Jeez .. literally we could do the same thing as the undertones ! “ that made them so identifiable to me n my peer group Col 👍🏴
I will always remember the bass player not even trying to look like he was actually playing that big Rick and instead he had that stunned and excited “ look ma , I’m on the telly “ look 😆 Your right Cynthia , it’s not complicated and that was its appeal , it was 5 mates from Derry who were used to playing at local youth clubs who with talent and a lot of luck let’s be honest shot to fame n stardom when they were still in their teens and looked it too 😉 John O’Neil was their principal songwriter and he had an uncanny knack of writing hit after hit with simple honest to god R n R songs that you can imagine Chuck Berry being happy to play and that’s a huge compliment in my book . Yes it was basic R n R played fast and in keeping for 1979 New Wave ( they were never Punk btw ).. but it had a melodic side that contemporaries in the charts of the times didn’t , for instance there’s a passage near the end of the track with melody and counter melody going off perfectly encapsulating ( cracking word to pull off in exactly the right context .. awrite 😄).,the Undertones sound . I’m so thrilled to see this reaction I’m gonna take a day off from being honest with the other 3 which almost certainly will disappoint me after this highlight . It’s 8am.. it’s pissing down outside and it’s Monday morning .. but it’s still gonna be a good day today ✊ 👍🏴

One of only two singles I ever brought by the group (Teenage Kicks being the other),which coincidentally, were the favourites of Radio DJs John Peel (Kicks) & David 'Kid' Jensen (Number) at the time.
Excellent. These days the sentiment would be "why have you not responded to my WhatsApp message within 3 seconds?". NB: I see Cynthia was singing the tune to the old 60s Batman series!
Cant beat a bit of the Undertones ! It does remind me a bit of the "Jam " doing a cover of the 1960s "Batman " theme which is well worth a blast ! Cheers
Good song great review. If you are doing your Halloween week this year could you consider doing In the shadows by the stranglers. It should fit the Halloween vibe. Thank you.
A suggestion to react to the song Missiles by The Sound, an early 80’s British post punk band. An anti-war song that is still relevant today in what is going on in parts of the world.
Yeah, great song Missiles. Even better if the Haniers played Missiles by the Sound and then followed it up with They've Got a Bomb by Crass to really get the message home.
I also requested this many moons ago, a couple of years back probably. Great track from a great band. A solo song from Fergal Sharkey which I highly recommend is the Irish standard, "She Moved Through the Fair", I promise you won't be disappointed.
The Undertones at the National in Kilburn back in the day was a fantastic night - happy memories great band

The first single I went out and bought myself and still after all these years it stills sounds wonderful. Thanks for giving it an airing!
The Undertones were one of the first alternative music bands I discovered & remain one of the best. Absolutely brilliant.
