This is so great!! Been working with my lab mix since we live near water. Wanting to go fishing plenty this summer. Loved seeing an actual demonstration
Stonnie, It is so interesting to watch dogs develop through training that includes thoughtful introduction to new situations and tasks. In some instances one exposure to something new is all it takes to teach a dog. Very important lessons that you demonstrate often are the payoffs that come from being thoughtful, patient, and persistent in working with dogs.
my dog should thank you too.! I started watching ypu when I was challenged by dog #7. boy we have more fun. you really have changed so much for the better for my family thank you truly
As someone who's had 5 surgeries on my back and has a small dog ohh boy did I appreciate the idea of using an extra long target stick. I've been using a short one for a few things but I really like this idea. Thanks Stonie!
As always excellent advice, Stonnie! Our dogs can all swim, however in the boat they always wear a life vest. I really like this exercise for a new dog or puppy and will use it when we get our new GSD puppy next year.
Good video stonnie. Eventually they are going to fall in the water (and you’re probably going with them!) so it’s better to practice that before you both are panicking in a big lake or river.
Super video again ! Man you are so good to explain us things ! Thank you for sharing your knowledge ! I have been with you since a long time ... I can’t remember seeing a video about how to “show” a dog how to swim . I saw a lot of videos teaching how to acclimate the animal to the water (normally in the pound or river) , but I was wondering if you have something for an actual pool, like the one you have there ? Thank you so much :)
I used to throw a ball or frisbee in a bendy piece of stream or mote and then move around the corner when she was getting it, or even in an open piece of water and swim away from that position. When she got the ball and turned around there was a little bit of panic in her eyes when she didn't see me, but it forced her to look for me.
Thanks for the great advice Stonnie! Workin with my new 8 week lad puppy Milo, and I'm following your video on food training with my fingers integrating , sit, down, and have him following in circles my fingers then releasing food with praise. Using half his daily rations through 4x15 minute sessions of work. Works like a gem! Also, got him crate trained and only two messes in house in 4 days. Coming along great. Thanks for all the training info. Also, I tried to put him on a show leash and guide him but he's still biting at leash. When do you feel is a good time-frame to incorporate lead training in his development?
Very helpful for me with all water having gators here. Swimming to bank never an option for tasty smelling dog... but we don't take dogs in kayaks anyway.
Hi Stonnie, Should we not take Kayla down to the river without first giving her some swimming lessons? I thought that all dogs could swim. Kayla is about a eight month old Huskakita.
Hi Stonnie! I love all your videos! I am having a problem with my one-year-old lab's paws. His paws are cracking and peeling, which causes him to limb. I am not sure but I think it is because of walking him on city sidewalks when it is hot. How do I protect my dog's paws?
Tips for helping a Bernese mountain dog to swim??? Kinda hard to use the boogie board method with such a big dog. He jumped in the lake once after two mentor dogs did and came right back but won’t go in fully now. He whines and paws at the edge wanting to get in but won’t go swim
Get in with him. Stonnie had a video where he talked about how not being able to touch the ground makes the dogs nervous. So show him that he just has to swim back to the shore and he'll be safe. Theres a video on it.
Hello Stonnie! Planning on taking the dogs to a lake in July. We used a Ruffwear Life Vest with our 1 year old Lab when out on the boat. What is your opinion regarding life vests for dogs?
Hello. I have two Malinois. One love the water but the other just wont go near it. Tried treats ad toys but nothing. Any suggestions? We love boating and want to take both dogs with us.
Now on the occasion I was in water with my dog, I might consider keeping a long lead attached to in case. Is that bad? Obviously I know we want them to know how to swim and which way to get to. to get out of danger. But would it still be okay to have a lead attached?
Stonnie, what kind of shoes are you always wearing?! Every time I think to myself... " looks like he's got real shoes on today, no way he's going in the water" Nope. You jump right in! Are they waterproof shoes or are you just the type of guy who doesn't mind having wet feet for the rest of the day? Just purely curious lol thanks
I'd like to have a black lab but my wife could handle a big dog, so we got two big dogs in small packages ( JRTs) they're a handful. Will have you pulling your hair out one second ( I'm bald so no problem there ) and laughing till you're in tears the next. I wouldn't want to imagine life without them. Great dogs! Stonney knows !
I could listen to this guy talk all day. He reminds me of Bob Ross. I can't paint worth a damn but I watched him every day of my childhood. Love it 🥰
Me too!

Another great video. Thanks for sharing your wisdom with all of us.
My short Jack loves the water. He is the honey badger of the dog world.

That's exactly what I was thinking. If I ever get in water over my head I'm a goner.
Loving your work Stonnie

Where did you get the pool? I'd love to get one like that to practice with my dog. Thanks in advance 👍
Thanks for labrador vids now my dog can do alot of tricks
Have you had any experience with training Chesapeake bay retrievers? If so thoughts?
3 back surgeries for this small dog owner. Ask me how much I appreciate the stick strategy?
Bless you Sir
Hope i can also train my 🐕🥰😍

Do you recommend have a doggie life jacket on?

I guess that depends on one’s risk tolerance, in a given situation.
More Jazzy!!!
Could she be any cuter?! My goodness! Love the other little guy following too.

Only during the initial training phase

I don't think he cares about wet feet. I cringe, hate wet shoes.
I’m Ruth. 😩😂🥰
You mention all the time for people to send you videos of our pups, but I can't find out how to send you my video. Please help.
Hello friend

All dogs want to be terriers, all terriers wish they can be Jack Russell terriers
