I watch the old episodes everyday both at night and in the morning, I gota say.. It was such a wonderful show. Arguably even better than The cosby show from which it derived. Lisa Bonett's exit from the show due to her pregnancy and Debbi Allen taking over as producer director was the absolute best thing for the show. It went from being an ok show to being a great show. and it still holds up to this day. The casting incredible the acting incredible the stories drama and comedy all incredible. And best of all (or worst depending on your view) watching it instantly make me feel like its the 90's. What a wonderfull thing it would be for the show to be revived on Netflix with many of the original cast.
No. That would ruin it. Things were different back in the late 80's early 90's. Different times and we may never see them again. Things have become so divided that I don't think we will ever come together.

I'd like to say, as a testament of how universally loved this show was, I was a 10 year old chubby little white girl who never missed an episode of A Different World when it was on tv. I loved it then and love it now! :)
God its so good to see Charnele involving herself with the show. Her character was probably the most disciplined and level headed student within the group from the beginning of her character's entrance, to the end of the show AND Cree Summer's voice-even now- is iconic. I hope she starts book reads or something because her voice and her style of talking is so intriguing and beautiful! :D

Kristel Williams I knew without a doubt that I was going to college within the first season of that show. I agree with you, I truly hope these people know how many lives they changed, minds they enlightened, hearts they touched. I loved this show and frequently hunt for episodes to watch. I've made my teenagers watch it and it is still very effective today. We need more shows like this that show that we African Americans can work together and lift each other up.

What an amazing idea to to have a black college student sitcom that was so real, engaging, and had such a great cast. Sadly, nowadays I can't even see cable doing something like this...but most of all I LOVE how tight the cast is still - seeing them laughing and playing with each other it 's obvious they are great friends and have a real respect for each other and the show :D

It was this show that inspired my husband to go away to school and study engineering. After accomplishing that goal, years later he accomplished yet another goal of receiving his MBA from an Ivy League university. Now our children watch the show In hopes that it will give them the same inspiration.
I am so glad they came out with a show like this showing the real life of a H. B. C. It was definitely one of my all time favorite sitcom . Channel Brown was my favorite character . I just want to say thank you to the creators , producers , writers , actors and actress for having the vision .

I'm African by birth but I was introduced to this show in Europe by another diplomat's daughter whose parent has served in the US and they had recorded a few VHS tapes when they left the US to Denmark, I watched a few and I was obsessed. I love this show sooooo much and when I need to calm my soul , there's only one cure for me and that's a different world.x
A different world also has an international follow up (like Cosby show). For us French kids of African and West Indian origin, they were the sole representation of Black kids on TV (Sadly things have not really improved). Also Living single and of course Prince of Bel Air played an important role on the mind of the young woman I was. Happy to read that I can watch A Different World on Netflix now (I have the season 1 DVD). My African American sisters and brothers, you've had more impact on this earth than you think. I am so happy a show like Insecure by Issa Rae is taking it where these shows left...
just recently started watching ADW on Netflix, and I've been really into watching programs from my childhood. I know that everyone always says that their generation was the "best", but those television programs throughout the 80s until the late 90s were truly powerful. we saw families of all types and colors, young people bettering themselves, and we're exposed to and opened dialogue on important topics like racism, sexism. safe sex, date rape.....there truly are NOT programs like that anymore. such a shame- our young people need this now more than ever!
They need to make them ALL executive producers (and faculty) upon a new "A Different World" where we can see them older and raising a new generation of actors.

That was awesome to watch. I still enjoy episodes of Different World today! Also, Natalie's (22 year old Grad Student) is a member of my church, Sunrise FGB and as she stated, this show was an inspiration to my sister who got the idea of attending college from the show.
I absolutely loved Different World. In college, I would wake up @8 to watch reruns then go back to sleep because despite me waking up early I refuse to have morning classes. Please bring this show back!!
Their final episode to me was the one of the toughest ones to watch because it felt like the end of something special not just of the show but in tv. I still get choked up when Ron breaks down as he accepts being a Godfather to Dwaynes'/Whitleys child.
Hands down my favorite show of all times. I was a college student while the show aired & my friends and I use to gather on Thursday nights from 8-9 pm. Cosby Show came on at 8 & A Different World came on at 8:30. Great memories! I've got nothing but love for the cast!
(TEARS) Now I am in the middle of ADW marathon and to see how positive and impactful this show was on Natalie is very touching. I was in grade school when these aired and was too young to relate then but watching Today and relating my own college and young adult experiences to those on the show is hilarious at some points and informative at others. I get to better understand, acknowledge and appreciate the exceptional talents of the cast, writers, producers and overall staff. I am so awed by them all to see what a phenomenal legacy they left in African American tv and entertainment. I am so very proud and empowered by the work they did & now have it at my disposal thanks to the internet (Pointdexter would just love it lol). To all my young Brothers and Sisters, the young people who have diminishing sources of positive images, PLEASE go and watch these shows.

I can’t lie, it was because of this show that I even went to college. Dwayne and Ron friendship inspired my friendship with my best friend and brother James (r.i.p.) and all the other friends I made.
This show taught me why education is so important. It showed a reality that many were scared to display. I can be anything that I wanted to be. I was a seven years old when I first saw this show. Thank you for making this show. As an adult looking at it now I still get a lot from it. God bless you all.

This was an awesome show. I had a crush on Cree. She's beautiful. I'm blown away that that young lady wrote a 127 page thesis on the show. Inspiring.

They need to make them ALL executive producers (and faculty) upon a new "A Different World" where we can see them older and raising a new generation of actors.

That was awesome to watch. I still enjoy episodes of Different World today! Also, Natalie's (22 year old Grad Student) is a member of my church, Sunrise FGB and as she stated, this show was an inspiration to my sister who got the idea of attending college from the show.
I absolutely loved Different World. In college, I would wake up @8 to watch reruns then go back to sleep because despite me waking up early I refuse to have morning classes. Please bring this show back!!

Their final episode to me was the one of the toughest ones to watch because it felt like the end of something special not just of the show but in tv. I still get choked up when Ron breaks down as he accepts being a Godfather to Dwaynes'/Whitleys child.
Roger James I did also. It was a shame NBC moved the show on Sunday morning which is when I saw the last episode.

Hands down my favorite show of all times. I was a college student while the show aired & my friends and I use to gather on Thursday nights from 8-9 pm. Cosby Show came on at 8 & A Different World came on at 8:30. Great memories! I've got nothing but love for the cast!

(TEARS) Now I am in the middle of ADW marathon and to see how positive and impactful this show was on Natalie is very touching. I was in grade school when these aired and was too young to relate then but watching Today and relating my own college and young adult experiences to those on the show is hilarious at some points and informative at others. I get to better understand, acknowledge and appreciate the exceptional talents of the cast, writers, producers and overall staff. I am so awed by them all to see what a phenomenal legacy they left in African American tv and entertainment. I am so very proud and empowered by the work they did & now have it at my disposal thanks to the internet (Pointdexter would just love it lol). To all my young Brothers and Sisters, the young people who have diminishing sources of positive images, PLEASE go and watch these shows.

I can’t lie, it was because of this show that I even went to college. Dwayne and Ron friendship inspired my friendship with my best friend and brother James (r.i.p.) and all the other friends I made.

This show taught me why education is so important. It showed a reality that many were scared to display. I can be anything that I wanted to be. I was a seven years old when I first saw this show. Thank you for making this show. As an adult looking at it now I still get a lot from it. God bless you all.

Omg..I dont know how I missed this 🤗 a whole year later. But man, this was one of tha best shows on TV. Along with Martin and Living Single..I was young when all of these came out but I loved them all..I'm thankful for my childhood shows lol
