A clinic on stick control, rudiments, counting and dynamics on pad, snare and kit in 9 mins 29 seconds. Get the crime scene tape this man just killed. Thanks Steve!
same i tried these flam odd grouping stuff for ever and its been rough for me becouse of my tecnique but im gonna keep trying till they are smooth and i can transition beetween them like he does
Who could possibly give this a thumbs down. Wow !!!! Just simply incredible playing and ideas !!! What a gift you are to the world, Steve Smith !!!! Thank you so much !!!!
Perfect. Memorized that snare etude in Drumhead Mag a couple years ago and got the basic flam tap down pat on both sides at 120 BPM 16th notes. This is the perfect 'variations' lesson of that phrase all spelled out so nicely. Thanks Steve!
Beautiful technique and demonstration. Interesting how switching between German and French grip produces a slightly different sound. It makes his flams a bit closer/tighter in French, but when he takes them to the snare drum solo, it produces this lovely 'thinning' effect. Oh, and epic shirt game! Look at those fancy sleeves!
I've met Mr Smith twice. The first time with Hiromi, and then with Vital Information (the New York Edition). Both times at Ronnie Scott's in Soho, London. A great drummer and a personable guy. Terrific stuff..!
Talk about a wealth of knowledge....whew! Vital Infirmation indeed. Flams are such a useful element to spread rhythm around the set. Flams also adds a layer of dynamic depth. Bringing odd phrases into the equation is genius. Thank you so much for sharing!
In practice, I have discovered and am starting to use the same concept of flam taps, and I am very happy to see that Steve does it at a high level and explains it very well. Thank you Mr. Smith
I love how easily he goes from a German grip to an American grip and then a french grip. All without losing any of the accent clarity or dynamics within the rhythmic patterns. Fabulous!
I'm loving these videos. Feels like back in the day going to a drummer friend's house to hear what he's been up to lately and maybe bum some inspiration...
My first Hudson Music Drum Lesson video was Steve's in 1987. I think Dean Brown (guitar) was in it? A few years later I'd go check out Dean With Premo in Long Beach, NY.
What did I just witness here lol. What a lesson this will keep me busy for the rest of my life. I love Steve’s snare sound and whats the stick of choice in that video🔥🥁
Fantastic drummer and great video zildjian 👍! Just between us drummers tell me what's your favorite drum set? Personally I have two favorites: sonor sq1 and craviotto maple drums

I spend years trying to perfect some of that stuff, and it's just a warm up for Steve. Unbelievable drummer!.
To be fair, he's spent years perfecting these techniques, too. His dedication seems to have paid off a bit, lol

I'll never play like this, but I'd like to have a practice room with a window and a view of the woods.
The Sonor drums and the view from the window are equally awesome as Steve's playing.

It’s a trip seeing Steve Smith playing match!
So far I've noticed he has drum sets in three different areas of his house
Always a classicist about percussion, the whole picture. Thank you for the flam family ritual. They have recently become my favorite rudiment.
How can you NOT be addicted to YT??

My mind is now blown! The piece at the end with the mallets was brilliant.
