This is a nice console, don’t get me wrong. But even in the ‘60s, the highest end gear were component systems. McIntosh, Marantz, Fisher were the audiophile brands of the era. The console systems were marketed towards the more casual music listeners.
Great job of refurbishing that console! The sound was fantastic, I looked at the speakers but the music seemed come from all directions at the same time! A great stereo sound!
my aunt had a console stereo in her house when i was growing up. it was amazing how much clear sound that thing produced to fill the entire house. however, my $200 soundbar with satellite surrounds and a subwoofer achieve more or less the same thing without taking up so much space. if anything, that good room-filling sound has been commoditized, which is really great. but i do agree that an old-school console stereo, if in very good condition such as yours, can certainly be a functional piece of art.
Well that answered my question about whether the tape deck would go down with reels on it I couldn't imagine that it didn't,, that would have been ridiculous,, but it looked so close...
The height of 60's audiophile tech. Very nice!

You can add two more speakers in notice it when he was refurbishing it
That unit must've set its original owner back a pretty penny. But so worth it!
I have a YT960! Awesome piece of Americana! My reel to reel is dead however. I really need to get it repaired.

Beautiful cabinet and music. I have the vinyl album of that Montovani. Love his music.

Back when companies made a concerted effort to make things that sounded good for the mass’s!
Can’t say that today!
