1:00 that’s strange since bebop before getting mutated was black and when you think about it in the 87 cartoon Baxter wasn’t even a bad guy. I’ve always heard the reason they changed him was because they didn’t want a black person calling a fair skin person master, which also doesn’t make the most sense since Baxter and the shredder had no relation in the comics and he wasn’t a doormat.
You're right. I should've clarified that that's the more specific reason but it's a classic case of them trying not to be offensive but then inadvertantly being more. It gets waaaay worse when you bring the punk frogs into this conversation! lol. Oh yeah, when I took the pic of Shredder with Baxter I was like "this feels weird". I much prefer him being his own separate villain faction outside of the Foot.
Yeah, I vastly prefer black, sociopath scientist (sometimes cyborg) Stockman of the original comics to the white fly guy of the 80s show (there's an Offspring joke in there somewhere).
LOL now I'm upset that I didn't find a "pretty fly for a white guy" pun to put in there... I'll have to try harder if I ever get around to reviewing the 87 TAS figure!
In the original comic books (and pretty much every other iteration of the TMNT) he was a black man. The 87 animated series is the only media I can think of where that character is white.
It's nice to get more humans to display with the turtles.
I agree but I do find them oddly more difficult to take pictures of...
