The part that resembles Dragon Roost Island after two of the three membranes are destroyed always leaves me in tears. Not tears of sadness or even joy, tears of optimistic determination. That same determination that makes sure you know you have a fighting chance against all odds. That is what the Zelda series is, beating everything thrown at you despite the odds, and still coming out on top.

The Molgera connection is definitely in the strings in phase 2 (phase 1-B around 25:19) of Colgera. It’s not melodically identical, but sounds to the ear almost near it. Also I love that Tulin’s Great Eagle Bow not only has Revali’s scarf tied around it, but a feather from each of his parents as a charm.

Into the depths (towards Ganondorf) is my favorite. Especially from the ancient murals to the entrance to Ganon's lair.
How the music starts very creepy with the broken vocal lyrics & sounds of wind, then slowly expands to a dreaded mix of now clear & complete vocals, organ, piano, chimes.
You can feel it like the music is telling you "You shouldn't be there cause something very terrible is down ahead."
I really like a take on those music before that Ganondorf fight. I enjoy going in again and again just to listen to the music.

I'm not sure if anyone noticed this about what was brought up at 15:54 but fun fact about Revali. Well not so much fun as sad, but he has the same cheek blush/markings as a youth Rito does. Which this means that when he was chosen to be the pilot of Vah Medoh, he was no older than a teenager was. So not only is the music telling you to not let another champion/guardian die, but to not let another kid die. Idk, just thought something people should know.

Many years passed since BOTW released, and seeing how, as the Rito do, we too in our lives have gone through happy and harsh times and yet stand up again is heart warming. wait, when you where talking about the rito knowing a history of strife, telling stories to pass legends on and never giving in in hard times, i realised those are all things in hyrule as a whole, but never as clearly and vividly displayed as with the rito, and i wonder if the same holds true for all the races.
the gorons' steadfast optimism and determination is seen all across hyrule as people build back after each cataclysmic event,
the zoras kindness and willingness to put themselves in harms way to help each other ( like the zora training to resist shocks, or the one doing the same for sludge in this one. they are more directly vulnerable than any other race, and yet they step up the most against their weaknesses) is seen in every monster attack unit, in lookout landing being placed in open field, easy to stop, but thus easy to attack, in all those decieved by the zelda puppet
the gerudo's ferocity, disipline and strong values seen in every fighting force in hyrule, in everyones commitment to building a new world out of the ashes of their previous homes and lives, in the youngsters of rito villiage stepping up to bolster foraging forces, in the elder gorons steadfast refusal, in every single zora healer channeling every ounce of power they posses to heal sludge wounds and purify water sources,
and maybe even sheikah/hylian ingenuity visible in the grafted weaponry of the gerudo soldiers and so many other inventive solutions to things .
idk man, just the idea that each race has its ways of dealing with the cycle, and by adding those philosophies together, they endured much better then they otherwise would have (and to some extent, better than they did 100 years before botw)

Incredible analysis! This really is an amazing boss fight. I think another subtle bit of genius game design is the way that the dungeon prepares you for how to damage Colgera. You run into the frozen puddles here and there, first in Rito Village, and then as you ascend towards the sky islands, and it's intuitive: you jump on or dive through these frozen sheets to break them. It's not even a prominent element of the dungeon itself, but when Colgera shoots its spikes and reveals those frozen disks, it seems obvious that you're supposed to dive through them. A lot of old-fashioned Zelda boss fights require you to use the dungeon-specific item or gimmick to beat them, and TOTK does that to a degree with its other boss fights, but you don't use Tulin to kill Colgera. He just gets you out of the way when you need him!

I did Colgara using the cold resistance gained from food, which meant I couldn't eat some of my other food to heal because it had a different effect that would undo my cold resistance. So in addition to being on a time limit for the whole fight, I also had to be smart with my arrows because I had a few fails due to running out of arrows lmao.
Whereas with Gannon, I used a teleport marker to return to him better prepared, with Colgara, I didn't have a teleportation marker, so leaving to get better prepared would have been a chore I didn't want to go through.

I'm sure a lot of other players without music knowledge can felt the same feeling we all experienced.

First dungeon i made, the moment i heard the SOUNDTRACK OF THIS BOSS i got HOOKED for the rest of the game, hoping for another thrilling boss track, which i don't really found it on the rest of the dungeons until the last one, with the scenario and music all together, what a master piece

I can’t say how much I appreciate this video more than this without sounding repetitive and saccharine. I hope you make more- this game, especially the dungeons, is chock-full of great sound design. I love how the dungeons/bosses combine the themes for each people's hometown, former Champion, Divine Beast, and new Sage, among other things. I myself noticed the Fire Temple and Marbled Gohma's theme have leitmotifs like every five seconds.
Also, I've seen it pointed out that the "stepping" motif is also in Twilight Princess's Blizzeta battle theme's second phase. It's quite appropriate for Colgera, but I wonder how intentional it was for Attack on Vah Medoh given that is themed less around ice and more only on wind.

That was my moment when I realized that this is without a doubt the best game ever. Thank you for capturing it and putting into words so well why I loved this boss fight so much!

I just got this game for Christmas, so I'm about half a year late to the TOTK party and I've been avoiding all kinds of media, playthroughs, memes, shorts, building pictures and everything else to try to enter the game blind. I played kind of following the main story directions and where you are pointed at first is towards helping the Rito. This was a treat! The journey to the sky, jumping on the boats, the stormy and windy weather followed by the calm skies when you reach the highest parts, then that boss fight... I got there with not that many arrows, so I asked myself "DO you really need arrows for this fight?". I flew around, dodged the attacks and sure enough, I saw the boss was exposing it's first ring by shooting the spikes... suddenly I KNEW that I could go through if I dived... I didn't need arrows... I WAS THE ARROW. I dove through the boss in the middle of a storm after dodging it's projectiles, one of the most metal things in any videogame.... And then after the second time doing it, the music shifted to the Dragon Roost Island theme, the playful up and downs from that melody on the flute and then the orchestral Dragon Roost Island theme from Wind Waker, I actually teared up. It was the perfect moment for that song, you figure out how to hurt Colgera and now it's weak! Tulin pushes you, you glide and you dive, you find a gap through the spiky tough rock armour and you shatter the icy crystal core of the creature that's been creating all these blizzards and winds, now it's not its storm, one hit away, it's scared of you and Tulin, it's Tulin's storm now, the perfect storm.
by far the best, most cinematic and badass boss fight in the game (apart from the last one), and it made me wonder hoe they could even top themselves after that.
    Loved your analysis.

The rito phenomenon was my favourite mission in the game because it uses its sage in a way that doesn’t feel forced and teaches you to appreciate tulin’s ability and has such a gorgeous soundtrack that relates back to other rito related music and it is just so well done to me, there is so much I’d go on about but I don’t want to write an essay written in poor rushed spelling and grammar.

Ooooh I got my own thoughts on Colgera's song.
The entire Song makes you *FEEL* like a Rito, flying around during a hunt with bow and arrow, but The Dragon Roost swell on Part C feels utterly Triumphant thanks the drums. You've dealt two separate heavy blows at this point, you've proven yourself against the monster, that you can indeed defeat it. The swell is motivating, empowering, and urges you forward like a strong steady tailwind to just headbutt the damn thing.
The flute that comes in when the swell plays for a second time I feel represents Tulin and the other Rito Children, the next generation that will continue their legends and legacy.
To be fair, your mock-up gives me that same sort of feeling as well, with the motivation and tailwind, although I feel it's better suited to an adventure rather than a single battle. Less headbutt the big bad monster, more save the world

I know next to nothing about music theory, but I think these kinds of analyses are super duper cool. Something I thought was really cool is that the melody of the Stormwind Ark song that the Rito children sing is actually used in varying ways in almost each section of the Wind Temple’s music.

What an amazing video. Well-structured, written, and edited. One of the most well-spent time on RUclips for me. 😊 As a journey, the Rito main quest resonated with me the most out of the all main dungeon quests (even though I think the Lightning Temple of the Gerudo main quest beats the Wind Temple when it comes to the dungeon design).
I do have a couple of nitpicks:
The speech style for most of the video makes me feel like I’m watching a commercial rather than an analysis. I’m sure some people like the approach since it’s not that common and makes it stand out, but I don’t think it’s ideal for content as long as 40 minutes. In a way, it’s exhausting, not sure how to explain it better. Of course, this may be mostly a personal preference thing.
I was a bit surprised there was no mention of the distorted chants that kick in with the 4th phase of the temple music, as well as the 2nd phase of the boss. Those are the same kind of chants that can be heard at points that relate to the Demon King (e.g. in the beginning of the game, where he is sealed). The chants were actually present in the very first TotK trailer in 2019!
Anyway, you have a new subscriber. 👍
P.S. Dare I ask how many hours did this project take you? I can imagine it was a whole lot.
