Someone on bus said about me "just shows even when you think life is bad could always be worse." I was on the bus in a chair how exactly is that an example of how my life is so awful it makes others feel better they aren't me. 😂 I'm on my third big wheelchair and my second indoor wheelchair. I still find stuff I like and don't like but thankfully powerchairs are a lot more customizable even once purchased. 👏🏻
I'm a part time user of the wheelchair because of a cerebral palsy (from my birth). The thing I regret most is not having learned skills to overcome the steps and not having enough resistance to push me for long time. Regarding the last question, I completely agree with you. In my opinion, the most difficult thing to make society understand, in general, that having a disability is not a tragedy. And, at the same time, is difficult to make society understand, that who lives with a disability is not a hero and not necessarily must be an inspiration just because he/she live his/her life, study, work or, for example, go to the gym. Two years ago, while I was thinking about this, it was wonderful for me to listen to Stella Young's TED Talk on RUclips, I would like to spread it all over the world to make society understand how things really are. Do you know this TED Talk?
Loved this i also came from Gem and i did the collab too great video! I use a wheelchair full time too i dont have an injury just a horrible neurological condition 😫 it has also paralyzed me. Subbed to you love your content
Well done as always Ben. You mention an electric wc attachment as a wc accessory. I have been very fortunate to have recently been able to purchase a Batec E2. Haven't had a chance to use it much outdoors as I am waiting for warmer weather, but so far an awesome piece of equipment that is well engineered and built. If you were closer I'd let you borrow it to do a review yourself. Be happy to share my review of the Batec with you if you are interested.
@@AdaptToPerform anytime. I am really interested in comparing the Batec quad hybird to the Stricker quad hybird (LIPO SMART TETRA). I know the Batec E2 quad set up is one of the best designed pieces of equipment for a quad I've used. There's a couple guys I know with the Stricker's that have logged a lot of Km's. Curious to know which one is better or if there more equal.
Great video as always Ben! I also did the wheelchair tag video on my “search for silver linings” RUclips channel but as I’m getting a new chair soon I might just do it again 🤔
Great video How are you finding the smoov now ? I can’t wait to try it my appointment got cancelled due to coronovirus :( The most annoying thing I find being a part time wheelchair user is the comments/looks when I get out of my chair etc or if I can go for a walk
I share the same vision on my injury as you :) I'm very grateful for the things I cán do. and having a good and peaceful life is so much more beautiful and better then chasing goals or dreams that have to do with being the best. at least that's my opinion :)
Hay ..thanks you for all your videos ..I've not long been following ..my partner had his accident a year ago ..motorcross ... he went from T5 to T3 and now he is C2 but full use of arms but left side is numbish he unfortunately got a syrinx (spinal cist) .. I would love to ask you some questions and pick your brain ...we have had an awful time with rehab centre etc... so be good to ask from a similar injury how you manage things and big one I would love to give my partner is a center of balance obviously being high injury like yourself core muscle isn't there but you manage to take both your arms off in the air I wondered is that support from our chair or is there good exercise to do to help get a balance point etc.. god I've got lots of questions Haha...thank u again for you videos think there great ....trying to get my partner involved 👍
A well fitted wheelchair goes a long way. Unfortunately most people that sell them don't seem to understand what is right. You need to be sat in the chair not on it ✌️
@@AdaptToPerform ahhh that makes sense at the moment he's more on then in and has quite a straight bk to his chair which is only going to make him feel like he's going sideways as no support .....I think personally he almost ready to order new chair or his next chair as he has an adjustable one Kushell 4 really lush 1st chair get a lot of compliments from it !! Also sorry to pick ur brain if u have time to answer but does it matter if ur feet are up higher i know that puts more pressure on ur but but he's 6 ' 4" and they have put him on 24"wheel but his foot plate is very close to the floor to create that right angle sitting position....or is it whats comfortable and works for u more?? I feel the rehab center put more fear into things then anything and u must do it this way done wear jeans only jogging bottoms loads of crap really as its down the the individual!! Thank u so much for messaging bk means the world!! Laura
Where abouts are you based? I'm 6'2 with long legs so have a similar issue. I went up in wheel size. My feet are close to the floor. First thing you can do is relax the straps in the back rest to sit further in
@@AdaptToPerform yes we have relaxed the bk slightly which has helped with pain but the other problem which you may have found is he's brourder on his shoulders then on his hips so he's an 18" chair but shoulders r wider so when you slack the back he kinda folds into it rather then gos on a slight recline if that makes sense so we have done it a bit which has helped anymore and he will just fold haha ...I don't think his back rest is for him as there's so many to choose from different heights to play with etc... one he has has handles on the bk which we opted for due to me having to push him while he had this syrinx as lost use of left side so lucky for that to have come bk but they dig in due to being wide shoulders ! We r based in Harwich Essex so for him going forwards I think a good chair set up will really help !! Not that he's been able to try out much due to pain and complications but because he's so tall and hasn't had the best time with advice etc... maybe a well build thought out chair would help!! Thank u for ur help laura
Ah perfect. Draft Wheelchairs in Cambridge are your best bet. Steve there is my go to guy. He's a quad and knows his stuff. Just listen to his suggestions 😉

Thanks for taking part ben. I love the advice about welled chairs vs non welled. I think Ill get a welled one next if I can.

Totally agree re having a chair you like the look of I’ve recently got a quickie xenon 2 and love it such a upgrade from the invacare action 3
