I'm surprised to find that the actual opening with the music is only about 1min long. I swear it felt forever watching this as a kid.
Bro same. So picture this, a young 5 year old autistic kid (me when I was 5) watches this. Never knew what minutes were. This felt so long it was like a fever dream. I remember stimmying my fingers like my face was the camera to that and I don't even know how I did it XP.
Fr it has been like 15 years since last time i saw this intro and i was like "that's it?" i swear it lasted at least 10 minutes
It’s because of the pacing and buildup from the beginning - all the closeup shots of the bugs - and the SCALE of everything once the music kicks into high gear - the mountains look so far away, and then you see the little house, and you think it will surely take a few minutes to get there.
It’s all using your own brain against you
I watched a video explaining how time is relative. Ex. I am 36 and my daughter is 7.
10 minutes for me in my mind is 50 minutes to her. I have 5 times more of my life behind her than she does. That is the basic concept for why time feels like it is moving faster as we age.

When my sisters and I were little kids we would sit in front of the TV and pretend this intro was a rollercoaster. We'd hold our hands up and scream and laugh. Good times :)
Square Bee Nice
don´t forget later in the flight take off albatross scenes, it really felt like flying lol
My sister and I would pretend we were running :'D Good times indeed
Me and my sister would pretend to be driving
What were you wearing ?
This was such an amazing and unforgettable intro to watch as a kid. And it still holds up today. The music gave me chills.
The Rescuers, both movies where awesome.👌 To bad they don't make them anymore.
@@xavianmarchetti5699bring it back!
yes that music is just marvelous!
How many movies are able to make just a field of grass seem like an epic journey across a galaxy like this?!
Such an overlooked Disney classic. Cody's friendship with the eagle is realfeels, George C Scott is the villain, and can you imagine this intro on an IMAX?
SemperFidelisTyrannosaurus Ii
Oh my god, YESSSS. They need to re-release it in cinemas ASAP! :D
In someways, the tech (or CAPS rather) made for this movie paved the way for Fantasia 2000 eventually nine years after its release
Joanna ❤ My favourite egg devouring evil lizard lady 😂
This whole intro, the music, the visuals, the camera shots, EVERYTHING just screams, well... Australia!
Not really lol. There aren't fields of cotton surrounding uluru.
@@R3fug333 oof
Everything except the accents in this movie lol
First movie to be fully computer animated.

One of my favourite movie introduction sequences of all time❤️
This was a wonderful sequel.
Screw what the critics said
lol if I ever wanted a movie critic's opinion, I would beat it out of them. If.
Actually, the film performed well with critics, getting mostly positive reviews. The reason it struggled at the box office was because of other films released in 1990, such as Home Alone.
But yeah, this film is great and I wish I could have seen it in theaters.
@@DEV-gz2eu seen, not scene.
@@ghfdfhfdndxhcg2312 I changed it.
@Gromit AVGCP AYTCA It's not. NIHM 2 is worse by a long shot and not comparable to Down Under in any shape or form.
Excellent opening sequence, one of the best for an animated film in my opinion. And the music's great as well.
Miles Jolly 0:40-0:50 that’s my favorite 🎼 of all time from The Rescuers Down Under.
fox and the hound intro also rather impressive
I used to watch this movie with my brothers and sisters as a kid back in Italy. This exact scene had me saying "I'm gonna go to Australia one day"... So here I am 20 years later
Congratulazioni fra
This was the hardest, most dopest Disney intro to a movie ever!!!
This intro is a fantastic piece of expertly crafted animation.
Starting out deliberately low-key, slow, and close-up to set the mood of being in the dangerous Australian outback, then pulling up and out for a wide shot of the wide-open spaces, and then suddenly taking off with the film's fantastic score and a fast moving fly-in to convey that this will be a fun, energetic, and dramatic adventure film.
i remembered this intro to be wayyy longer tho :(
huh? that doesnt stretch the time
lol me too. Time moves faster, the older you get.
I was typing in the search for “full intro,” trying to find out why everyone only had the shorter version. Then I saw these comments and thought “Oh.”
I felt the same, it was long to me back then
so did i. time is forever when your a kid
Such an underrated Disney classic. The intro set the tone and this movie made me feel closer to nature.
Kind of feels like you’re in a roller coaster. Underrated movie. Honestly, it’s my favorite Disney animated movie.
33 years later... I still get chills hearing this intro! best thing to come out of Disney!
Since I was a child I want to visit Australia just because of this film . And now I’m here in Sydney. That’s crayz
I remember watching this movie as a little kid and thinking the intro was HYPERREALISTIC in terms of video quality.
Like, in my mind, I remember the pillars being like an 8K video of a complex, fully animated scene.
Me too! It's crazy how your perspective changes from a kid to an adult. I wish I could fully go back to that
this movie is a key memory of my childhood, one of the greatest things I've ever seen.
One of the few times a Disney sequel went above and beyond
Whoever came up with this opening scene was a f*cking genius. It begins with the minutiae of the insect world, then juxtaposes it with the grand scale of the rugged Australian Outback. Not a bad way to bring people into the universe of the film.
It's also the perfect way for audiences to be introduced to the new CAPS process, as this opening shot would have been nearly impossible to pull off without computers.
@@gamestation2690, it's incredible, isn't it? Imagine what it must have been like seeing this in cinemas...Whoa!
thewaywardpoet - One thing I hope is for this movie to receive a digital transfer on home media. It’s the only CAPS-produced movie not to have one.
@@thewaywardpoet I was only 8 years old and it was totally stunning, never had I witnessed anything like this. Spent all my pocket money on the VHS as soon as it was released.

Can we just take a second to appreciate the last couple seconds of extremely smooth rotation, and that PARALLAX!
I don't care what other people say, I freaking LOVE this movie
Agreed
Same.
Who's slagging it off??
So I recently read about the history of Disney's Digital Ink and Paint.
This opening was literally designed just to show off the sequencing capabilities.
From the frame we fade up from black, until we zoom all the way into the window and it fades back to black, that was a single sequence, with every single layer pre drawn, rendered, and stacked in the digital multiplane camera.
Organizing a shot like that with actual cells would have been a ridiculous apparatus.
Just as a little technical note to add to this awesome intro, this movie was the first time Disney worked with Pixar to produce a full-length animated feature. This movie is very experimental, and is sort of a landmark animated film. It was like the 2nd or third Disney film to feature cel-shading, (the first was Oliver and Company) and the first film ever to be fully digitally produced (it was printed onto cels). The entire film was colorized using computers to fill in the artists scanned lines, and several 3d environments-- including this intro and the city scene. If you go back and watch The Little Mermaid, you can immediately notice the HUGE jump in quality from Mermaid to Rescuers. It's mostly due to the tools Pixar developed to help bring visions like this to life.
You just unlocked a small piece of my childhood lol. I always used to wonder why the animation was so much better in this movie compared to other kids movies of the late 80s and early 90s.
Well that’s one way to introduce the sequel. 😁
How can this only be 1:30 minute long? That intro felt like never ending when I was a kid
Thats because time goes slow as a kid
WOW, the very first animation opening ever to have brought me chills.
The music is purely INCREDIBLE. I could imagine images in my head just hearing it.
I remember to this day these many years later being absolutely blown away as a kid to this opening sequence. I single-handedly credit this movie and specifically this piece right here to my love of movie scores by the likes of Hans Zimmer, Alan Silvestri, James Horner and of course the greatest; John Williams. So much childhood nostalgia is embodied in this opening for me. A true Disney Classic
Better days of my childhood, when my father was alive - I miss you pops and memories such as watching this with you
Still gives me chills do this day one of the best movie intros ever.
this was the first movie to make me LOVE movies. the First time I really felt like I was moving along with the camera, and one of a very very few that I can still call to mind with no effort even a decade later
Charli Martin, mine was The Little Mermaid, however, I know what you mean.
Love how they just casually live next door to Uluru 😂 Ahhhh I was proper obsessed with this movie as a kid. So under appreciated!
As a youngster this was one of the first movies I saw in the theater. This intro was amazing!
Man does this bring back the memories. I remember watching this on vhs when I was like 5 after it came out. I can easily source back my love for music to this opening sequence. Brilliant blend of animation and sound. Bruce Broughton did a fantastic job composing. It’s funny all these years later I’m so excited I finally found the original soundtrack on amazon (they didn’t make many at all). So many great memories tied to this movie. Don’t make em like they used to.
This has to be the most underappreciated of the 'Disney Classics'
probably the best animated adventure film ever made.
Ahhh this opening. This movie just plunged you right into it
For years I was looking for this intro
God damn Bruce Broughton can score a movie.
Happy 31st Anniversary The Rescuers Down Under. 1990 - 2021.

I'll always remember watching the intro scene! I honestly think it was the best part of the movie!
You know it's this movie that made me want to someday visit Australia.
My dad was stationed there during his navy days and would tell me all about it.
But after seeing this movie it cemented it for me; go on a walkabout, see the wildlife, its gonna be great
Oh Australia is amazing

InjusticeHater I literally just answered
What I love most about this is that this animation is VERY good DESPITE the fact that nothing in this sequence is AT ALL necessary for narrative purposes. They didn't animate this sequence because they needed to, they did it because it was cool. I wish Disney did more art like that these days. It does serve storytelling purposes, but you could get those purposes through other means that weren't as much work or as cool.
When I was a kid this intro had me HYPED
Gosh I remember seeing this in the theater! Blew my little 3 year old mind!
This was always one of my favourite movie intros as a kid. The camera shot, the speed, the music! It’s all good.
I remember this intro really well from when I was a kid!! I loved it!!!
This movie had no damn business being as epic as it was.
This INTRO IS AMAZING STILL REMEMBER IT 25 years later!!!!!
2024 anyone? Man when I was 6 years old this intro felt more longer to watch 😮
When they did the intro for Lion King they were like "Top this". And they did. But this is still real fucking epic.
man do I miss watching this movie
This intro has always been the best part of the film to my parents back in the 90's when I was a kid; even today they still love it.
This intro is just pure awesomeness! Very underrated!!
I was a small child when I first saw this, in the public library. It’s one of my earliest memories. This intro definitely left an impression.
This is where my love of eagles began. I was 4/5 and this intro made me feel as if I was flying over the field. It was such a good movie.
this opening is like " hay look at this " and then grabs you and your off and then just when the music builds and your like wow ( fist time they used a computer to render animation too I think) it goes " hay look at this " again.
I love this opening
kelley davis 0:40-0:50 me too.
Disney had used CG for the clock gears in The Great Mouse Detective.
Anyone notice that Cody had a stuff bear when he was asleep while in the intro? It really relates to the same bear Penny had.
Trenton Iocca he's probably a genderbend version of penny
This opening scene hits so hard. Watch this movie with surround sound and the whole room shakes 😂
I remember when my friends in my youth group came up with an Australian inspired dance based on this theme. Such wonderful childhood memories.

Love the opening credits music. Very epic.
I remember watching this during lunch in preschool, where we'd pretend we were getting in a car and had to buckle our seatbelts while the ladybug was climbing the blade of grass. Once the camera started moving, we'd all go 'vrooooom,' and pretend we were driving a car through the field. Good times... other than crapping my pants on a daily basis and being dependent on adults for everything.
Made in 1990, still badass in 2018. I remember when my father bought this long years ago still on *kassett as we say it on Swedish. I got this in somewhere years 2000-2002 good times.
I really feel bad for today’s generation growing up with bad music, movies, cartoons and stuff. They are growing with tablets and when they are old enough and look back at their childhood and what’s left from it is a dead tablet
@British Media Bully He wasn't talking about the original. This came out in 1990..
Love this movie so much when I was a kid and it’s one of my favorites.
I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS MOVIE FOR AGES AS I FORGOT THE NAME BUT REMEMBERED THE INTRO
I remember my brother and I would pretend we were racing each other and run on the spot every time we watched this 😂 kids these days will never understand
Still one of the hypest openings ever.
Andre Sigers from Gamexplain brought me here!
Very inspiring way to start a new sequel
Why did the find this intro scary as a kid? Now i think it’s an absolute master piece.
The music composer also did the score to the epic Civil War mini series The Blue amd the Gray... and you can hear his style in both of them.
The scene from this movie where the mice narrowly escape getting crushed by the bad guy's tracked vehicle has the most amazing surround sound effects for a 1990 movie.
The intro and the movie all around is great! Good memories
Oh God. So much Nostalgia flowing through me.
Me and my siblings used to run to this everytime. Man those were good times.
WOW, what an intro! glad I jus bought this for my 6 yr old as a diversion from the new computer graphic overload stuff on TV today. he'll love it!
Mikez he’ll thank you when he’s older. I know I did.
Ecstatic. I just remember running to the tune and it felt longer.
One of my favourite movies growing up. This intro still gives me chills
The main theme written by Bruce Broughton is epic. Broughton was supposed to score Home Alone (his name appears in an early trailer), but he was tied up Down Under, so he recommended John Williams.
Can't see why this movie bombed. I mean the work they put into the animation was way beyond anyone had seen at the time period
I think because it was released the same year as Star Wars.
Gamexplain sent me!
I blame this movie for making me think eagles were THAT large as a kid.
This movie is unfairly underrated. It’s nice to see Disney take a break from fairy tale musicals and just do a simple adventure movie.
If Disney is going to do live remakes of anything, why not make a live remake of this movie? Minimal dialogue, all special effects. Do it like Jungle Book. Get a good, really good child actor.
Get Martin Freeman as Bernard. Put this intro in 3D in cinemas in an after credits scene of any Disney property. Watch the hype explode.
Martin Freeman as Bernard is stellar casting, but I honestly think this movie would be stronger without the mice. A story about a boy who makes friends with a giant endangered eagle and has to try and stop and evil poacher from killing her. It pretty much writes itself, but the mice don't really need to be there
This movie wasn't a hit. Only hits get the live-action treatment.
FUCK NO, DISNEY LIVE ACTION REMAKES ARE TERRIBLE, THEY DIDN'T EVEN KNOW HOW TO GET IT RIGHT AND IT MAKES IT ALOT BULLSHIT AND EVEN WORSE, PLEASE LEAVE THIS MOVIE ALONE, THIS DOESN'T DESERVE A REMAKE!!!😡
