  • India is a highly patriarchal country. But in the state of Meghalaya, the indigenous Khasi tribe practices matrilineal descent. Here in northeastern India, women rule the roost.

    Matrilineal Society-is a line of inheritance(Family tree)
From our ancestors with rites and duties on earth were descended and inherited till date from our mother womb to us to preserve the righteous duties as clan title we inherited from our mother title not from our father like any other practice in India.
For eg,i Manipur's Nengnong were "Nengnong" is the title derived from my mother.
Our spiritual duties from the early days till date not to disgrace our Ancestors(clan).
NB:it very restricted to used the title"Nengnong" in khasi community.
    Thank you
    Manpura Nengnong

So you don't find it strange that the entire state is behind 10-15 years compared to other states
      Yep it's clean and all
But would you live in a state which offers nothing

This is different from western culture in a no. Of ways:
      1. Children inherit the names of their Mom not dad
      2. Youngest daughter & specifically only daughter inherit property unlike West where both get right to inherit property
      3. Men's status is lower than the women
      4. Specifically women r incharge of the family
      5. Men leave their house & live with women's family after marriage
      Etc..

India have alot of matriarchal cultural, especially you can see tribes/casts in in the prosperous agricultural/garther region ..
They have access to a lot of natural resources, The mother rule family her sons works in farms daughter help household works. they don't need strong patriarch figure to defence/protect the family.
