That's already a terrifying thought. But I can imagine someone hiding from Jean outside, just trying to hide in some trees or bushes. Closing their eyes in horror. Hearing those screams and begs for help. As well as hearing Jean Jacket's horrible roars.
I'm surprised he didn't have his brain scrambled to death. Like blue whales are animals you cannot get too close too or, with one particular call, a certin closeness will kill you. You cannot handle too many vibrations at once.
Did you know that the cries of a whale are so loud they can actually cause a blood clot in your brain or the vibration itself can cause you to die? Must have been it’s inspiration
Easily the most chilling scene in the movie. I've seen the 'hearing it moving without seeing it' trope, but the screaming of Jean Jacket's victims was such a good spin on it.
Exactly. Because it's a predator that it goes by it's instincts but doesn't have intelligence like humans do. So basically we're deadly to JJ than it is to us
How I saw this scene: JJ ate the horse statue, but because it's "stomach" is above its "throat," it has a powerful stomach sphincter to prevent acid from leaking out. It's so powerful that JJ really couldn't swallow the statue fully. It was choking from that point out. When it attacked the Jupe crowd, it didn't take Lucky because the horse was so still that JJ thought it was another statue. Couple that with a crowd taking what appears to it to be an aggressive stance, it ate them to assert dominance. They were stuck being swallowed all day, all of them being crushed more and more against the statue. That why you hear for many pops and why the crowd screams for a lot longer than any of the other victims. When the one woman screams how something's burning her, I think the statue had shifted and allowed some acid to drip down. The last crush you hear is really JJ finally swallow everything that's been in its throat all day, and all the humans were immediately immersed in acid so powerful it dissolved them quickly. The statue irritated JJ stomach, so it "vomited" which is why there's blood and viscera. The groans when OJ is right under it are it retching, trying to expel the statue, which is harder for it to vomit than the blood and small objects. Then, it finally does.
If I’m not wrong, the horse wasn’t ever opened from its cage. And with the hiker story from the beginning probably being JJ I think we can assume it hunts humans and isn’t doing it for dominance. It probably just is taken aback by OJ’s confidence and him not acting like the other prey, so it threatens him instead of straight up eating him at the end. Kinda like how a mouse can turn and sprint at a cat and the unexpected turn in aggression from a prey animal causes the cat to run away from its defenseless meal. I also think that the digestive system isn’t in one part. It didn’t drop the hikers blood off in the beginning at opposed to just their belongings, so I think the horse blocked the second part of its tract which would contain the digestive enzymes, and and system to process and distribute energy from the food. JJ held onto the food all day because it was too valuable to waste so much food even though his tract was blocked, and only gave up and spat out everything when it was clearly hopeless to try. The crushing was probably him flexing the muscles meant to push food farther into the tract backwards and forcing everyone back out his tract, which would squish them all together. Since there was only one horse statue blocking his feeding and he didn’t immediately become aggressive until later in the morning, I think it can be assumed he has multiple digestive tracts around the saucer, and only this one failed, so he could wait at least a few hours with the energy from the few people who flew intro the other ones and got properly digested before attacking again
Also that would explain why the TMZ reporter was eaten so quickly later in the movie. The horse was gone from its throat and JJ was more than likely ravenous after finally expelling it. Similar to probably how we would feel after throwing up after eating something that didn't agree with you. A few hours later, after your stomach calms down, you're extremely hungry.
From 4:22 to 4:25 is a very accurate reaction in disastrous situations, this is how you would react to a such a situation, despite knowing the threat, morbid curiosity is a instinctual trait in humans, humans always have a desire to know the unknown, which often leads to their own downfall.
The horror comes from hearing the people being put in the stomach all at once is scary as hell and seeing bones and all being ejected as it cannot eat them is scary as well
@@work90 that is the reason why I love horror films they want you to guess the mystery before showing at the end, because show me the monster early just waste potential
I find the part where they all get crushed SOOOOOOO horrifying! Because it wasn't all just one big squish, no, I think JJ was crushing all of them, but the one's that didn't die, were still alive screaming in pain from those horrible crushes. Like the woman scream at 1:06 is all of a sudden just cut out, she must have been one of the first to actually die, while the rest suffered from those horrible squishes.
people like to relate jean jacket's behaviour to that of jaws etc, but this scene really disproved that for me. Why would Jean Jacket release the blood of its victims right there, on the house of people who are trying to take photos of it to prove its existence? It is territorial, but its extremely sinister and intelligent to be described as animalistic
Pretty sure JJ was just waiting above the house for them to come out but also had to digest his victims so kinda just did it there, might not of been to scare them at all
JJ was trying to convince the characters to look at it as a bait. Later in the film, it tried to do the same with OJ, using the screams of the journalist as a form of attention. At the end in its final form, JJ looked like a peacock, bringing OJ’s attention one last time. JJ might be smart, but not smart enough to believe that the balloon is not actually a living being.
I died laughing when he opened the door, looked up and immediately closed it saying "Nope", then followed by the fucking door lock, it had me laughing even more LMAO
1:09 JJ's roar is loud enough to make Angel cover his ears, and he's in a house below it. Imagine how loud it would've been if you were one of the people inside JJ at the time. POP! There goes your ear drums. Go deaf just before you die. At least the squish takes a mere second, so you wouldn't have to endure the pain of being crushed. Though honestly, which is worse? That, or being slowly digested, like the people were for presumably hours?
I mean...you'd hoped the squish took a mere second to end it all. I mean aside from one scene, showing a part of the digesting process, we don't really know what else is going on in there. For all we know the muscled walls were slowly constricting them, keeping them from moving as the stomach acid did it's job. Can you imagine your movement becoming even more restricted, than it already is, as your flesh burns? So maybe that final 'quick' squish wasn't so quick after all Just a thought 😳
This is what I wanted _War of the Worlds_ to be. God, Peele and his collaborators are incredible. I think we live in a special time for horror-Peele, Eggers, Aster. They have revitalized the horror genre.

1:41 I love how the score was incorporated in here. Perfectly tying in with the falling objects and the severity of the scene. Unlike some another 2022 movie *coughs All Quiet on The Western Front*
I keep seeing people apply human logic to JJ like it's an evil monster, but JJ is an animal. It's not torturing people. It's just eating the food it has collected by crushing it in its mouth and expelling all the stuff it can't digest.
I saw a comment that explained how the creature only used the screams as a further tactic to bring in more prey or just more food. Because what do we first do when we hear screams? What’s the first instinct? To look. And how do we get killed? When we look up. It’s not evil, it’s an animal. It’s a creature and it’s only focused on staying alive just like we are.
So was the blood from the people or the monster from trying to eat the statue? I assumed the statue was blocking the full process of consuming so I thought it was like throwing up.
Is it the horse statue that they used as bait originally? If that’s what JJ spewed out I think it was personal. JJ knows he’s in that car and is giving it right back to him. Which is even more terrifying how sentient JJ is. Killing everyone right over their house as well? Brutal
@@wesker1739 yeah but I don’t like trying to be philosophical when we stated it’s an organic being. Like if it has sentience why flex and eat other sentient beingings
I think JJ was sending a message too. Which when you think of it that way, it just makes it even more creepy as it's more self aware. Think of the Australian jelly fish that kill people, now think if they were self aware to the point it stalks the beaches to hunt swimmers and will swim along side the beach showing off someone's cousin that's half digested but still alive.

lets just remember for a moment that everyone that that stadium show was suck up into the ship Adults and Kids and got stuck into was would basically be its throat so for the past few hours they have been trapped in the throat because of the statue being stuck there too and that last sound was the statue becoming unstuck and them all being violently sucked into its stomach and crushed and digested
I love how at 1:55 it shows a key and coin drop perfectly on the railing, mirroring the death of OJ’s father reminding us about how long Jean Jacket has been hiding near the farm feasting.
This is terrifying because it shows it has intelligence. It’s saving its food/ non digestibles until it’s over their home and spraying the extra awful into their home. A fox will kill a chicken just to intimidate.
At the 1:22 you can clearly hear someone saying “somebody… help!” right before the screams get silenced by Jean Jacket. The impressive thing about this scene is that it manages to be terrifying and disturbing without showing explicit violence, but implicit instead, which in my opinion is way much worse because it is left to the viewers’ imagination what could be really happening.
For a little bit of science attempt, to try and explain the anatomy of what might have gone on inside the creature. In order to have people and then their belongings separated so rapidly, the only geometric structure that supports that is a sieve. Almost think of a strainer. If you put someone into a strainer and crush them so rapidly that anything fleshy or organic that can be broken down IS broken down, and any metals or glass is left over and regurgitated you’re left with jj being able to create a series of small holes within its membranes to squeeze them into paste.
It actually just digest anything digestible and then pukes out the leftovers. Here it however used its throat muscles or something similar to crush everything inside it and the push it out because it had intestinal blockage. So it couldn't digest the folks ( even then the opening shows that the digestion period takes several days to finish)
Jean Jacket is so territorial, he can't force Em and Angel out of the house just like he can't force OJ out of the car so he just drop stuff at them like "maybe you can hide now, but you're on my terf and sooner or later I'm gonna get you"
Considering jean jackets final reveal and the scene that shows us the inside of the alien. My theory is that the squish is Jean jacket flexing the muscle like tube that it sucked everyone into, squishing them all at once. Which caused the blood to come pouring out immediately, considering Jean jacket has a loose built fabric like body.
You’re right! Jordan Peele actually based Jean Jacket off of real jellyfish, and real jellyfish eat by having their food melt along their digestive tract with stomach enzymes before they finally crush them to a pulp.
Yep jj has two digestive tracts on both sides of its body and it wraps around the the “hull” of its body and pushes food through and all it has to do is flex the middle muscle and crush them
Considering we don't see much organic pulp, and considering it's nature as a low density organism, my theory is JJ somehow increased its internal air pressure to instantly pulverise anything malleable inside it.
@@hardiehardleyyes. Definitely has something to do with Jean Jacket manipulating air pressure. I remember reading a case about "Byford Dolphin" diving incident where sudden change in air pressure resulting the victim crushed into pulp. RIP

Everytime JJ "groans" its likey crushing everyone. You can tell by the higher pitch in the screams.
Oh my god you're right. That makes it so much worse.
As horrifying as Everything About That in concept and execution is...i did laugh out loud when he went "Nope." And then locked the fuckin door like that'd work
More or less did, aside from fall debris, it couldn't suck up the car...granted at that moment it was actually expelling all the inedible bits of it's meal just then (make of that what you will). Honestly having watched a video that goes a way to explain it's biology only makes it MORE terrifying. Usually having unknown explained makes it less so but NOPE.

@@anglepsycho that is true. The the house is blocking off some of the vibrations. Or it's just bearly not loud enough.
Imagine by some luck you survived the lasso experience yet at the cost of seeing your family picked up by this thing.
This creatures one vital flaw was its intelligence.
The inability to realise that humans communicate was its undoing.

I didn’t catch note of that- JJ not taking Lucky shows how clever this creature is
If I’m not wrong, the horse wasn’t ever opened from its cage.
He swallowed a metal horse................... That's why all of them were stuck......
From 4:22 to 4:25 is a very accurate reaction in disastrous situations, this is how you would react to a such a situation, despite knowing the threat, morbid curiosity is a instinctual trait in humans, humans always have a desire to know the unknown, which often leads to their own downfall.

people like to relate jean jacket's behaviour to that of jaws etc, but this scene really disproved that for me. Why would Jean Jacket release the blood of its victims right there, on the house of people who are trying to take photos of it to prove its existence? It is territorial, but its extremely sinister and intelligent to be described as animalistic
Pretty sure JJ was just waiting above the house for them to come out but also had to digest his victims so kinda just did it there, might not of been to scare them at all
You ever seen a cat piss to mark it's territory? I think that's what JJ was doing
It's not sinister, it's intimidating. It's attempting to scare them into either submission or flight, this is how all predators act.
Lions will rip a hyena (or any other pack animal) to pieces in front of its pack to assert dominance.
So maybe that final 'quick' squish wasn't so quick after all
Just a thought 😳

This is the best lovecraftian movie out there and it isn´t even lovecraftian.
