In Coconut Mall there are references of other tracks such as the Daisy cruise, the red dino dino jungle sign on the left before the finish line and immediately after the Vanilla Lake sign. possible that they are preview to the next wave
I am not that upset with Coconut Mall, because it's only a section of the course. What bothers me more is that the cars in Shroom Ridge only drive in one direction. In the original they would drive in both directions and this created more situations to screw up. So this change is something that affects the entire course and not just a section, which is why it bothers me more.
Well people complained about the cars and now you guys want it back how poetic. Honestly I prefer the moving cars added more challenge and intensity to a race.
These tracks look so fun and I love the gimmicks and music differences! I wish there was anti gravity effects and im hoping for a balancing fix on the characters and karts so I won't see 9 duplicate sets online
Rebalancing wouldn't remove the duplicate players because everyone would move to whatever the new best combo is. It would also break time trials if they rebalanced the game since you couldn't match the old records or ghosts then.
i saw the multiple paths on the mini-map and wondered how you get to that area, very cool. adds some chaos too like baby park where if you're in first you can still get. hit
I like the idea of going in reverse for the final lap. Might be the cause of getting hit with some bullet bills randomly now and again, but interesting.
Such is the modern day cynicism everyone defaults to. I had no doubts that the "pre-release" footage we saw at the reveal was, in fact, unfinished and would be improved. Every retro song in MK8 was remixed or remastered. There was zero chance they weren't going to touch all of them and get them to MK8 quality.
I was worried they were going to recycle the original songs like in Mario Kart Tour but every course has been remixed. I’m convinced now to get this dlc
18:14 Hold up. Did anyone noticed that the Koto plays alongside with the Race Intro Theme during Ninja Hideaway? Now that's what I call a neat detail in the next level.
I cannot wrap my head around how Nintendo could ever approve a DLC that differs so much from the base game: the graphics are super lackluster and the MAIN gimmick of Mario Kart 8 is not in this goddamn DLC. 48 tracks (count ‘em 48!!) will be without anti-gravity sections; so Waluigi Pinball and Wario Colosseum (tracks I’ve wanted to see with anti-gravity for so long), will not live up to that dream. Ninja Hideaway is the only track in this DLC so far that looks and plays like it belongs in Mario Kart 8. It’s detailed and it doesn’t need anti-gravity. I literally don’t know where you’d put it.
I hope there will be a character pass, with the following character if possible : -Diddy Kong -Pauline -Birdo (+colors) -Hammer Bro (+Boomerang, Ice and Fire variants) -Monty Mole -Funky Kong -Dixie Kong -Nabbit -King Bob-omb -Kamek -Chargin' Chuck -Petey Piranha Also, I hope there will be more vehicle parts.
If there was a character pass, I think returning like Diddy Kong, Birdo, Petey Piranha, and Funky Kong should go first, since they've been in Mario Kart since Double Dash and Wii. Maybe something like three for each pack of courses.
A few thoughts: - The tracks look better than expected. Still not up to par with the rest of the game, but for the most part not bad. - At 2:05 I was like WTF why is there someone coming the wrong way; the whole "backwards" thing really caught me off guard, and I think it's amazing! They really upped the track compared to Tour, including all variations in one, which is great. - The music on Choco Mountain slaps! It was great on the N64, but the remix is banging! - Coconut Mall looks okay; I still think it's too bright and oversaturated. But probably something I can get used to. Why are the cars at the end not moving? :( - The mosaic is amazing though! (9:25) Also RIP getting the horn directly after being hit by a Blue Shell xD - No going backwards in Tokyo Blur. On one side, I'm glad because they don't just repeat the feature, on the other side I think this would have been a nice combining and stand-alone feature off all the City Tracks from Tour. - They removed the incoming traffic on Shroom Ridge. Sorry, but that's dumb. I was looking forward to more incoming traffic tracks -.- - The music on Sky Garden lost its epicness :/ Still not bad, but worse than in Tour (and GBA/DS). - Ninja Hideaway is perfect. Amazing music and great track layout. I'm happy it was introduced in Tour and I hope they eventually do another one this great. -No anti-gravity areas. That was to be expected since there are none in Tour, but it's MK8 signature feature, so I hoped they would add at least some. Maybe in upcoming tracks, there's still a bit of hope.
The only things I don’t like are how traffic doesn’t move both ways on Shroom Ridge and how the cars in Coconut Mall don’t move. Other than that, these are solid. Excited to try it when I get home tonight.
Also coconut mall escalators being gone sucks...overall coconut mall got done dirty...it also looks...not polished like many tracks in this video arent either
@@RacingSnails64 Not really? You can just avoid them pretty easily. Like once you learn the track it'll almost never be an issue unlike the original where the miis were out for blood
@@brektelgmg In the non dlc tracks even if another racer is on a higher level, the shell keeps traveling on the correct path. Seems tacky and unpolished, imo
To update on this I finally got round to trying the tracks, they're awesome but in that same area I used a red shell and it just raised from the ground and started floating before breaking on nothing
Some of the tracks I really like- Ninja Hideaway is a stand out. But It does seem like graphically a lot of the tracks are a bit.. I can't quite put my finger on it, but they just look less visually exciting. Everything looks a bit plastic.. I think it's something to do with the lighting.
No, you’re right. The tracks do look a lot more simplistic and less detailed compared to other retro tracks. Put Toad Circuit next to say Neo Bowser City and it’s a world of a difference.
I was scrolling through the comments hoping it wasn’t just me thinking this, lol. The tracks look fine enough, but yeah, they look very clay or plastic like. They don’t have the same level of polish that the original MK8 tracks do and it almost feels rushed.
@@TCStink3 Considering that Nintendo focused a lot on Tour, the graphical style has changed a lot. Although Paris Promenade looks the best because of the lighting alone
@@thomasbirchall7342 It's understandable when it gets partially cut in tour, since it's a mobile game. It would likely struggle from proformance issues otherwise. But this is a triple A game we're talking about here. There's not really an excuse for Nintendo to deliver (relatively) low effort tracks instead of remaking the originals completely.
They messed up coconut mall pretty hard The drivers at the end are no longer moving around, no boost panels around there to try to get, they made the colour scheme completely different, honestly prefer older versions, and this isn’t an invitation for people to argue, this is just what I think of it
@@smudgybard8983 I think thats because they are moving away from miis. you can see that trend starting by replacing miis with sportsmates in nintendo switch sports
That sky garden was a shame. I mean, it was just the same as phone's game, like the other circuits. They didn't even included anti-gravity mechanic. I used to enjoy Sky garden, I used to liked those green and white colours, no those orange bricks that sucks and it's souless. But I really loved the sky garden new theme :)
Man they made Coconut way more forgiving than the original. Not knowing which escalator went up or down was part of the fun, and the cars don’t move back and forth either? It’s still really cool though, but it’s a lot easier than the original
Even though the new remastered tracks aren’t visually consistent with the rest of 8’s courses, I’m glad the remade music keeps the jazzy style the other courses in the game have. I was worried they weren’t going to make new music at all for the older tracks like in tour.
@@Cute___E Coco parking lot doesn’t have three cars moving as obstacles with boost panels next to them anymore, there are now just two cars that are stationary, that act as walls and there are no boost panels. Sky Garden also has a very different layout than the one on the gba, making it very short, just compare the map of cheese land and ribbon road to the gba counterparts and sky garden to its gba counterpart. Idk why Tour likes to shorten gba tracks because they don’t really do that with the courses from the other games.
They really f*cked up Coconut Mall. They removed most shops, got rid of the Mii guests, and changed basically everything that made it a mall into just another generic race track. And the annoying cars have been reduced to easily avoidable stationary objects. The course has completely lost its personality. :( I am truly saddened by this. Tour ports is NOT the way to go Nintendo.
They don't care. They don't have to. Their fans will praise them and buy this DLC whether it's the highest quality it can be or absolutely mediocre, and Nintendo knows it.
@@damir_van_kalaz I know. 😪 I already purchased the DLC and am sure I will enjoy it for what it’s worth. But damn Nintendo is ruining its public reputation among fans. And sadly I don’t think it will be tolerated for as long as they’re pushing it. No Switch Pro. Half-assed ports. Terrible virtual console selection. And now lazy DLC. It’s been a long time since we had a genuinely great Nintendo Direct. I’d say it’s been downhill since we lost our father Mr. Iwata and Reggie’s exit.
@@Itsuchi2 It really has been downhill ever since then, and none of it has come as a surprise. They replaced both Iwata and Reggie with the same types of corporate businessmen that have been ruining every other AAA video game company in the industry. Doug Bowser himself used to work for Electronic Arts, which kind of says everything you need to know about what to expect. Nintendo is just another AAA company now, doing the bare minimum whenever and wherever they can to maximize profit, knowing that PR means nothing when their fans will buy their products no matter what. They'll only start caring about quality when it becomes relevant to their profit, and until then we can expect nothing but disappointment.
As a MKWii aficionado I do have to admit...the Coconut Mall interior looks great. Super vibrant. Love the seaside parking lot too. Also I am SHOCKED that Ninja Hideaway came from Tour. That course is insane.
Tour has the stigma of a mobile game all over it, so our natural and cynical gut assumption is that it's a substandard, minimal-effort, microtransaction machine. Despite the stigma, it isn't a complete loss of a game for what it is, and should be celebrated moreso as a sign of the right idea as to how mobile games should probably be treated, instead of the actual shameless cashgrabs that deserve all of our actual scorn.
Theyre not as detailed or rendered beautifully like the base game tracks but they are serviceable. The Tour tracks are great though. All 3 of them really stood out
I'm still not sure what I think of the appearance. Stone, Paint, Tile, and Rubber surfaces look good. Wood, Dirt, and especially Vegetation, not so much. Other than that, the 3-D models look good, and the tracks themselves look quite fun. And the music, they nailed it, it sounds perfect!
Boy, the Paris one and the Samurai Temple look gorgeous, and I’d be fooled if they were made like every other course… but man, they brutalized Coconut mall, they didn’t even make the cars at the end move :(
They 100% could dial down the number of tracks and put a little (lot) more work on the textures and making the curved shapes less polygonal. The foliage is looking especially rough. At least the music is sounding nice.
I partly agree, some of the larger polygonal pieces look a bit odd (like Coconut Mall’s exterior) but I think it is passable. Some models from the original MK8 courses + the original DLC have some polygonal shapes so I think it’s okay. I wish the sand and grass had some texture in Shroom Ridge and Toad Circuit though
Sure, have less things to do but at least we get this nice tree that we only see for 1 second as we burn rubber down the asphalt. It's a good trade, trust me.
I'm actually kinda impressed with the graphics. Definitely not the same standards as the original tracks, but the lighting makes them look great, even if the artstyle is pretty different. The tour tracks are the best looking ones imo, as ironic that is
Nintendo really messed up coconut mall. The escalators are now flat which is dumb because this is a mall and it’s should be stairs. And the cars in the parking lot don’t move at all effectively removing obstacles all together. Kinda looks boring
My biggest complaint is that these don't feel like they were made for Mariokart 8. Of the 8 tracks added none have the zero gravity which was the main selling point of 8 and is absent from tour. I hope that with future cups they do go back and add the zero gravity and such to the courses.
@@crazycap2945 I think the argument that people are making by mentioninging the lack of antigrav is that these courses were clearly not remade for Mariokart 8 like the base retro tracks. These new course were simply dropped in from Tour and polished, which is pretty lazy, despite them all still being great tracks. The new compositions are amazing though.
I don't care about the antigravity but the spectacle was kinda nice. Like imagine a version of Maple Tree Way where you get to drive around the limbs of the tree, that would be amazing and I don't think we will get anything like that.
Just look at those some of the textures, the grass, sand, rocks, etc. As much I would appreciate the other tracks, Toad Circuit, and Shroom Ridge are probably low-tier tracks when it comes to visuals. It would've took the developers one month to polish most of the tracks. Also, I don't know if the Anti-Gravity gimmick might become an afterthought for future releases.
To my surprise, the tracks original to Tour ended up seeming the most interesting. Ninja Hideaway is certainly a highlight. Most of the other tracks are visually underwhelming, and the lack of anti-grav is a massive disappointment. At the very least these look fun, and Nintendo didnt cheap out as much as I expected them to.
Pros: the tracks look really upgraded from mkt, it's like almost night and day, not as detailed as the og tracks but a huge improvement, mkt tracks change and alternate every lap, making them very unique and dynamic compared to other tracks, also shroom ridge remix is amazing 👏 Cons: the ending of coconut mall is lame, the cars don't move at I hope in a next update they can at least move little or heck make them do donuts, they made sky gardens music in this verison worse then in mkt, it's not bad, but the mkt version is way better imo But overall it's mostly good, and can't wait for more tracks to come out
You can tell how much care was put into making these tracks feel as though they've improved with their age. The few that didn't make it into Mario Kart Tour are back with a fresh coat of paint, and even the ones from Tour were already great remakes. I specially like how they made the two Tour tracks have a lot of paths and a lap in reverse to reference the many variations that the mobile game throws at you instead of "this track again", like the R and X versions. It's also nice to hear the Tour music tracks without the constant combo counter popping out from all actions except turning.
@Riley D Of course, but they don't look bad at all as many thought. I honestly was expecting it to be a copy paste, but do not see that big of a difference, although the difference in artstyles is kinda noticeable
You tell us to realize stuff but can't realize that the word "port" means "putting a game's engine into a game with a different engine", not "lifting models from a game to another"... Typical Nintendo-obsessed crybaby.
And the music is Beautiful. I’m dissapointed they didn’t completely remake the courses, but I’m so glad they atleast remade the music and didn’t just pull from old games.
Since there’s a ship in the background of coconut mall, I really hope they do the interconnected courses thing from double dash (hoping the said boat is Daisy Cruiser)
I've never seen that before how the course goes a complete other direction on the final lap. Not just that, but going the other way as the other racers on the same road. That is incredible!
@@meleegaming101 Ah... it is actually less than 13 years, but I share the feeling of new(ish) content for the console version of Mario Kart, being long overdue.

I have never played Mario Kart Tour, but I already love the original tracks from that game! I love that the laps change routes, making you feel like you are a tourist.
None of the tracks have anti-gravity :( I really hope they don’t forget they can use that, with these retro tracks they are releasing a little bummed out sky garden and choco mountain could have had some anti gravity moments.
I was 100% shocked by the route change ups on the tour tracks (didn’t play tour) only complaint was coconut mall looking very “plastic” and the length of sky garden. By far my favorite tracks were Ninja hideaway, choco mountain, Paris promenade, and shroom ridge.
Although I generaly do not care about graphics in video games, I still think this is easily some of Nintendo's laziest work in any Mario Kart game. The track selection is pretty good, but the courses look like they have been ported straight from Tour without any modifications to accomodate for 8's art style, this applies to all courses. Tour's art style was perfect for that game but it just doesn't work in Mario Kart 8, everything looks out of place and the textures are way too bland and simple for a full fledged console experience.

So this change is something that affects the entire course and not just a section, which is why it bothers me more.
Well people complained about the cars and now you guys want it back how poetic. Honestly I prefer the moving cars added more challenge and intensity to a race.

Considering how much this pack takes from Tour, I was worried that some tracks wouldn't get remixed music.
Looks like those worries were unfounded.
At first I wasnt impressed with the graphics, but ngl Ninja Hideaway is one of the coolest courses I've ever seen.

Thanks for the upload.
Holy crap, Paris Promenade looks SOOO gorgeous on here!

I hope there will be a character pass, with the following character if possible :

-Hammer Bro (+Boomerang, Ice and Fire variants)
-Monty Mole
-Funky Kong
-Dixie Kong
-Nabbit
-King Bob-omb
-Kamek

Also, I hope there will be more vehicle parts.
If there was a character pass, I think returning like Diddy Kong, Birdo, Petey Piranha, and Funky Kong should go first, since they've been in Mario Kart since Double Dash and Wii. Maybe something like three for each pack of courses.
Theres no way Nintendo is adding anything else to this game.

A few thoughts:
- The tracks look better than expected.
- The mosaic is amazing though! (9:25) Also RIP getting the horn directly after being hit by a Blue Shell xD
- No going backwards in Tokyo Blur. On one side, I'm glad because they don't just repeat the feature, on the other side I think this would have been a nice combining and stand-alone feature off all the City Tracks from Tour.
- They removed the incoming traffic on Shroom Ridge. Sorry, but that's dumb. I was looking forward to more incoming traffic tracks -.-
- The music on Sky Garden lost its epicness :/ Still not bad, but worse than in Tour (and GBA/DS).
They litterally just ported Mario Kart Tour remake of Choco mountain as DLC, literally they just upped the graphics
The only things I don’t like are how traffic doesn’t move both ways on Shroom Ridge and how the cars in Coconut Mall don’t move. Other than that, these are solid. Excited to try it when I get home tonight.
While the cars moving in coconut mall was cool, you just gotta wonder, "why didn't you park your car? _do you need to go back to drivers ED?"_
I was really hoping the Miis would still be driving the cars.
I see what you mean, but, they are still in the perfect spots to be of nuisance while you're racing, so I'm ok with them.

@@Itsuchi2
It really has been downhill ever since then, and none of it has come as a surprise.
That choco mountain music really brought me back. How time flew.
The music in Shroom Ridge and Sky Garden OMG! 😍🤩
These new tracks look amazing! Choco Mountain my childhood, hopefully we get Kalimari Desert and Frappe Snowland later down the line.
Idc how it would look like in the first place. Most of these tracks are pure nostalgic. In the end it looks fantastic and i cant wait to play
As a MKWii aficionado I do have to admit...the Coconut Mall interior looks great. Super vibrant. Love the seaside parking lot too.
Also I am SHOCKED that Ninja Hideaway came from Tour. That course is insane.
All Tour tracks are honestly really damm good
Tour has the stigma of a mobile game all over it, so our natural and cynical gut assumption is that it's a substandard, minimal-effort, microtransaction machine.

These courses are looking FRESH! Great start of the DLC tracks I got to say!
They 100% could dial down the number of tracks and put a little (lot) more work on the textures and making the curved shapes less polygonal. The foliage is looking especially rough.
At least the music is sounding nice.
Is it worth having less content for things you not even paying attention to while playing.

I take back what I said about the visuals being underwhelming..., and *goodness* did they outdo themselves on Choco Mountain!
My biggest complaint is that these don't feel like they were made for Mariokart 8. Of the 8 tracks added none have the zero gravity which was the main selling point of 8 and is absent from tour. I hope that with future cups they do go back and add the zero gravity and such to the courses.
How many people really care about anti-gravity tho?
@@crazycap2945 I think the argument that people are making by mentioninging the lack of antigrav is that these courses were clearly not remade for Mariokart 8 like the base retro tracks. These new course were simply dropped in from Tour and polished, which is pretty lazy, despite them all still being great tracks. The new compositions are amazing though.
I don't care about the antigravity but the spectacle was kinda nice. Like imagine a version of Maple Tree Way where you get to drive around the limbs of the tree, that would be amazing and I don't think we will get anything like that.
I was like "OH SH*T IT'S OUT??" then I saw it was recorded by Daan.
Dang timezones lol.
Port from Mario Kart Tour
They could use it for some Raimbow roads and waluigi pinball
I cannot stress enough how hyped I am to play these courses
Make a Japanese Nintendo account and you can play them rn
I am concerned by the lack of anti-gravity mechanics on these tracks. I mean Sky Garden was perfect for it but nah, it had to be ported from Tour.
I'm so happy Ninja Hideway made it. The track itself is unique and the music hits hard.
Pros: the tracks look really upgraded from mkt, it's like almost night and day, not as detailed as the og tracks but a huge improvement, mkt tracks change and alternate every lap, making them very unique and dynamic compared to other tracks, also shroom ridge remix is amazing 👏
Cons: the ending of coconut mall is lame, the cars don't move at I hope in a next update they can at least move little or heck make them do donuts, they made sky gardens music in this verison worse then in mkt, it's not bad, but the mkt version is way better imo
But overall it's mostly good, and can't wait for more tracks to come out
People were definitely overexaggerating . This doesn't looks bad at all.
@Riley D I hope you notice I mentioned exactly that
The combo counter is one of the the things I don't like about Tour. It's like "Hey Nintendo, this is Mario Kart, not Smash!"

By far my favorite tracks were Ninja hideaway, choco mountain, Paris promenade, and shroom ridge.
tour didn't even originally have the route changes, I guess they made them to have the tracks be slightly original
Haven't raced on Shroom Ridge since I was 8 😭👌 throwback
