My theory: butcher used to be a mercenary or worked with mercenary’s in his past, then he gets hired by the government to make and control vanguard. So he leaves behind his mercenary life and starts focusing on vanguard, until he learns of the nazi gold. He keeps up the act getting more people for vanguard but behind the scenes he’s starting to recruit old mercenary friends to help him get the gold for himself. Vanguard gets an anonymous tip of a chopper with more nazi gold and perhaps other information. Vanguard goes to intercept, butcher shoots down the chopper for the gold, they run into each other, and they start a fire fight.

Apparently, the canon is that Carver, Hendry, and Owolo became mercenaries, hence the season’s name “Mercenaries of Fortune” and were after the gold for themselves. Kingsley, Carter, Drake, and Howard were also there for the gold after also becoming mercenaries, again referring to the title of the season. I assume that they started firing at each other despite being friends was due to the mother lode worth of gold in the downed helicopter. I’ve seen one too many friendships burn due to money.
Vanguard started off with Butcher telling the black ops crew about Vanguard, but once Activision saw how poor the game was selling they resorted to adding in wacky cosmetics and batshit crazy events to generate revenue and I'm pretty sure they forgot about how it started
Considering that Butcher is after the gold, assumingly Fourth Reich gold, I would assume that Kingsley (who devotes to leadership and fighting against evil) is trying to stop him from getting it. After all, it would be illegal to acquire it and since Fortune Keep is Butcher's place, it would imply that he was gonna take it for himself and not bring it to the government that is meant to process it. @@R.Gutz115 I like both of them and I really like how mw’s story tied to warzone cw not really but that’s more so Activision’s fault but I hated the reason for all the mw operators turned on each other then again I’ll admit it would be really hard to write that in a way that makes sense
Feel like a better one would be if for this season the cutscene is narrated by Arthur in kind of a side story that Butcher is starting to go rogue and Arthur and the rest of the Task forces are sent to take him out with his new recruits then the story that butcher starts telling Mason and them again would be his version (which would be a lie) tieing in the blackops story and VG story for season 5 and closing that series
Add on: once Mason Woods and Hudson realize that he's lying they get in an altercation Butcher pulls a gun and Adler takes him out (redeeming himself from BO campaign)
What if arthur didn’t turn on butcher? Rather butcher turned on arthur. Think about it. It’s weird that he went inside the manhole alone in season 1 and it’s strange that he is the one person in every group so far in the cinematics. Maybe arthur did the job hoping that they would stop the many secret projects the reich had in development. But butcher used the intel and stuff to further whatever goal he has in mind. Maybe arthur showing up to the crash site was a way to finish the job, but he realized butcher had other things in mind instead of the task at hand. Hence the whole mercenaries theme of this season. Almost every character in vanguard had a reason to join. But maybe these new guys were different. Maybe butcher hired them to help him further his plan. And in return for their service, he probably offered them the gold in the plane. I do get how this cinematic makes no sense, but this is just my theory on what’s going on. From 2:20-2:37 in this video, you can see a conversation take place, but in body language. When butcher’s team shows up, arthur’s face is in shock and after that, butcher throws his hands up and walks an inch as if to say to arthur “nothing personal, kid”. After seeing this, arthur’s face scrunches a bit while staring at butcher as if he was to say “you dirty rat” as arthur realizes he has been betrayed by the man who recruited him to the SOTF program. And the rest is easy to figure out. Butcher pulled a shepherd on the group and now the SOTF must deal with the betrayl maybe in the final season before mw2 2022 comes out.
This cutscene has to be the dumbest one in all of CoD. We skipped almost three decades, the characters are somehow still young and using WW2 guns for some reason, and they lost the ability to talk and aim. Zero fkn sense. And the worst part? We have to consider Vanguard a part of MW's beautifully polished storyline which is like spitting on it.
we should have gotten a sequel to ghost, would have probably would have been a good ending, and would have saw Hesh and Logan reunite and kill Rorke, but we should not tell sledgehammer,
Honestly, the biggest issue with the "new" version you suggested is that Fortune's Keep takes place *after* Black Ops 1. Like, well over a decade later.
Arthur ate butchers last hotpocket. So at a desperate attempt to get money to get more hotpockets. Butcher and his fellow hotpocket enthusiasts shoot down a nazi helicopter that had gold on it and they figured it out with the help of Nikolai. So Nikolai gave them the time and location of were the helicopter should be and left to finish up MW2. As Butcher and his fellow friends run towards the crash. It just so happens that Arthur and his team was In the area and they went to see what the crash was. After Arthur sees that there's gold on the ground he wants to take it all to buy hotpockets for all of his homies. And they see each other and they all know that they got to fight for the hotpockets.
All you need to do is introduce who turned on who. Arthur is probably protecting the chopper, Butcher trying to take it. You'll get more info when the new season releases....
That could be the idea. Butcher seems to be working with a new team that look like mercenaries while Kingsley and the operators from Season 1 and 3 are fighting to prevent Butcher from taking it, possibly leading to Butcher's downfall and why he's not with Task Force Vanguard in 1984.
They pretty much discarded any semblance of warzone storyline after the black ops one finished and then suddenly a WW2 veteran showed up in bunkers under verdansk. Lol.
Uganda just found over 12 trillion dollars worth of gold a few days ago currently making them the wealthiest country on the planet . Maybe this is symbolic sense it doesn’t make sense? The war for gold ..

IDK Maybe Butcher with team Vanguard discovered the Dark Aether and traveled through time as I assume Captain Price did in Black Ops Cold War (as it seem to hint at in his Black Ops BIO). Maybe Butcher wanted Vanguard to help him with a mission using the mercenaries help in that time period but Arthur just wanted to get his team back home this split the team with Butcher seeming to do horrible things in the name of the mission. Arthur now feel it's his duty to stop Butcher because of his ruthlessness so when the crash happened, Vanguard tries to take it before Butcher and the mercenaries finds it but it was too late, they battle for it. IF Arthur eventually convince Butcher that he's fighting for the wrong side then they would have to work together to take down the mercenaries but at the cost of Butcher and his teams. Butcher along with Arthur eventually return home but split with Butcher being scarred from the battle. But what they unleashed is a whole other issue involving the Aether and Zombies. IDK just hoping this story goes well lmao
Captain Price being in Cold War is non canon. The Dark Aether stuff, however, is Canon but I dont think it has time travelling capabilities. The ship that crashed in Verdanak has been missing for years and there's no indicating that you can go back in time through the Dark Aether.
@@agentlinrov1474 I don’t think it was ever confirmed that Capt Price is non-canon in Cold War if so it can easily be retconned like before. I believe that butcher is or has become a mercenary and he wants the gold but arthur is there to stop him and hand the gold over. I guess that the greed got to him. Ever heard the real story about the nazi gold? Them shooting at each other reminds me of the season 2 trailer for MW19 where they were targeting their own. I think the same happens here they target each other which starts the battle royale even though the battle royale had already started with caldera. Butcher tells the story of how he put together this task force but they are now fighting each other. He put them together during the campaign but if we follow the timeline they are split now.
For me not seeing nebula gas and having this weird cinematic means that they are quitting the story they wanted to tell BECAUSE maybe the season 6 (which is rumoured to be cancelled) won't go out and it was an important part on vanguard's story, so they decided just to do whatever comes to their minds, the story made no sense since having a lizard and a monkey in the island.
Season 3 didn’t even make sense the Western cities are getting gassed but that doesn’t matter big monke and giant lizard that somehow exist in a single island are the main threat

I don't think whoever's in charge has any idea what to do with the story anymore.
All of these war zone characters look more and more like suicide squad rejects the further on they go.
I think Sledgehammer just don’t care about they’re own narrative at this point
5:06 didn’t know Kingsley was in 141! 😂
This type of helicopter wasn’t invented until the 60’s so that also shows that this takes place in the 70’s
I feel like they are just trying to speed up the story so they can get to when butcher meets the Cold War crew
Ello Sg. Roach how’s heaven treating you

Sledgehammer doesn't even know what they are doing 🤣
Sledgehammer should never make cod games
i remember watching this and going wtf this makes no sense. and here we are with the main man himself explaining it thank you so much
My boy wasn't ready for season 5
I dont play warzone because I don’t have friends to play with but I’d definitely try to start playing if we got a new map besides caldera I think it looks washed out or too bright
The new task force for Season 4 is “SOTF Immortal”
isn't the vanguard a trilogy ? I remember it hearing somewhere , maybe it is related to other two parts that sledgehammer forgot to put out before this story sequence . we got 30 years in between this might link and finally make sense when shg release the remaining vanguard story
They mentioned that they wanted to turn it into a trilogy. Somehow, despite the universal acclaim Vanguard received, I don't think a Vanguard 2 or 3 will be greenlit.
@@LAST_STAND_FAN I am surprised that sledgehammer games isn't turned into a support studio yet
@@naavind6081 Honestly, Vanguard is their first certifiable stinker. AW could be forgiven because it was their first attempt(and the first jetpack COD, no less), WWII was bland, but eventually turned around after the Divisions overhaul(too bad Fortnite completely overshadowed it), but Vanguard went through development hell and back.
Oh, and most of SHG's leadership left during WWII.
It's a fucking mess this story since Cold War 🤣
It’s been a mess since mw
@@Deathmare235 Nah bro. You trippin'
MW Seasons, had at least better characters and better storyline.
@@R.Gutz115 cw has better characters and cw story made more sense why are the operators all traitors now
@@Deathmare235 Actually both are good. One for me, one for you. ;)
He’s in every group cause he’s the leader and recruited all of them and the reason he went into the manhole was cause he was the only one there
@@Deathmare235 true true.
5:05 Did he really just say Task Force 141 instead of Task Force Vanguard? Oh yeah, Modern Warfare II is coming out.
Meanwhile Maison Woods Adler and Hudson listening to butchers story been like: but why are you doing here?.
5:06 ah yes my favorite character in Task Force 141, Arthur Kingsley.
I know he played such a big role in OG mw2 I wonder if he'll be in the new one
Didn’t expect to hear stormtroopers getting roasted
This cutscene has to be the dumbest one in all of CoD.
We skipped almost three decades, the characters are somehow still young and using WW2 guns for some reason, and they lost the ability to talk and aim.
Zero fkn sense. And the worst part? We have to consider Vanguard a part of MW's beautifully polished storyline which is like spitting on it.
we should have gotten a sequel to ghost, would have probably would have been a good ending, and would have saw Hesh and Logan reunite and kill Rorke, but we should not tell sledgehammer,
@Aveteran Player but still ghost would be better
Omg I’m glad I wasn’t the only one
Honestly, the biggest issue with the "new" version you suggested is that Fortune's Keep takes place *after* Black Ops 1.
Like, well over a decade later.
I think either Butcher or Kingsley (probably Butcher) went money hungry, and the other is opposing them for that
Arthur ate butchers last hotpocket.
@@agentlinrov1474 Butcher is with the higher ups of vanguard one of them is the vanguard trainer
What if its been done like this on purpose to confuse us, and create more publicity. Maybe they are fighting people together in the middle or maybe they are two totally diff fights
what if butcher betrayed the other task forces and become a mercenary while Kingsley went out to recruit then again to get revenge or something
I think this season's story was just casually made. Also let's not forget that this is all a flashback with Butcher talking to the cold war squad
5:04 "we know from the campaign that Arthur kingsley is put to task force 141" I dont know if this is right or no
I was looking for this 😭😭☠️☠️he got modern warfare 2 on his mind
Did anyone else get a Mercenaries 2 flashback from that music right when the 2 dudes see each other?
Why is the music at the end of your videos so loud again, was okay for a little bit, now back to blowing out my eardrums if I don’t quit the video before it finishes.
Hi Ink! love your content ,Hair reveal when
IDK Maybe Butcher with team Vanguard discovered the Dark Aether and traveled through time as I assume Captain Price did in Black Ops Cold War (as it seem to hint at in his Black Ops BIO).
Also the Dark Aether is magical I’m sure time travel can come in play by using it in some great writing. That’s usually how this works anyways when it comes to writing a franchise as big as this. Disney does it very well tho
Yea when I watched that trailer, I was so confused lol
"Turns out,All of these character have the aim of stormtroopers and can't hit a single thing"
that shit got me rolling......
If u can’t figure out the story were fucked….
Vanguard is like the black sheep of the family, everyone's expectations is so low we're all like whatever at this point
This is what happens when they don’t make two teams. It’s just a bunch of random ass operators running around.
Arthur's Company is pretty good in my opinion. (Also hi Lewis guess you survived that gun shot)
I mean, we like WWII games but.. we like the good ones
No we just like WW2 games period but this well all I’d say is it’s apparently set in 76
The Dragović program I thought was I BO1 that’s was in the 60s
Huh I guess that weed that snoop gave to butcher made him turn 💀💀💀
ADMIT IT INK VANGUARD ITS OVER, COLD WAR SHOULDN´T END
i loveeeee the fact that we have seraph, menendez, rorke andddd al asad BUT it makes nooooooooooo sense..... if only they made an effort to actually make this work
The Warzone stories haven’t made any sense since they decided to add zombies into Verdansk lol, that was the turning point!!!
Stormtrooper aim had me cracking up!
COD needs a blogpost explaining the cutscene
Didn't know there were Hueys in WWII
The game's in the 70s...
Dude its a trailer about warzone. What happends in warzone? Squads with different random characters fight agains each other… price could have been in that video perfectly…
And now it makes even less sense.
It sucks because before Season 4 and 5 it did make sense.
You can really hear the frustration
Continuity Error!
The Task Force Vanguard Are Time Travelers! Just Like Captain Price!
When I first saw the trailer my brain just melted from how confused It was
Agree. It’s crazy and makes no sense. It’s a most like the writers care even less than the players at this stage.
@@Deathmare235 hahahaha exactly
Maybe butcher worker with someone like toretto from fast and the furious working with cipher maybe it's something like that
With the subtitles turned on you can see that the announcer in warzone is also butcher, is it the same one? Also, episode on Butcher(s) ?! I really loved the modern warfare 2019 story, can't wait for the 2nd one !
5:05 What task force 141 are you talking about?
Yeah this part left me scratching my head
For god's sake, they work so hard of Vanguard Seaon Pass (Season 4) and it's call Battle Royale. I get it already...Jesus Christ. 😒
They should hire you lol
5:07 did you say task force 141
The butcher is from ww2 at the compound or what ever it was I just noticed this
I think Sledgehammer gave up on Vanguard. Everyone is back on Modern warfare and getting ready for MWll 😆
Keep going legend 💪 🖤
You know what’s funny….
Literally Vanguard was suppose to give us the insight on “ Perseus “ during WW2 and Black Ops Cold War was suppose to be the bridge that connects ALL OF THAT.. but THERES ISNT EVEN ANY MENTION OR APPEARANCE FROM PERSEUS LIKE WHAT IS EVEN THE STORY AT THIS POINT??
your story would be so cool, doubt they'd edit or add a new trailer with it tho
I think you're putting in more effort than Sledgehammer is lol
There is no story, it's just random things that they thought would be "cool"
