Based on my own memories of the St.Kilda foreshore as it was in the ' 60s, I believe that some of the footage in this film was actually shot at the "other", 'Little" Luna Park (AKA Coney Island) that was located next to the Palais de Danse, on the corner on the Lower Esplanade and Jacka Boulevard. Certainly, I can't remember a Mad Mouse ride at Luna Park in those years. There wouldn't have been any space for it with the Big Dipper. Haven't been in that area for quite some time but I seem to remember that a Mad Mouse ride was operating at Luna Park at some point in recent years ? In fact, as I recall it broke down and passengers had to be rescued ?
Melbourne TV and radio man Peter Smith OAM shares his memories of his early days in St.Kilda and the Phillips brothers; the original American owners of Luna Park, the Palais Theatre, Palais de Danse ballroom and the Capitol Theatre in this interview (click on link below) :

My dad used to take me there as a child in the 80s so grew up hearing stories of the Giggle palace,Rotor etc & always wondered what it wldv been like. One of my favourite places was the shooting gallery and watching the saloon/ bar come to life as he hit each target..fond memories.Thank you for this video and would love to see footage of the shooting gallery sometime in the future, been unable to find much on it to show my kids

By the ''80s, the "Old" Luna Park was nearing the end of its life. A lot changed around the
early '90s. Many of the iconic rides were removed. As you may recall, there was fire which destroyed the Giggle Palace. The River Caves, Whip and Big Dipper were also demolished. Very sad. So much history went to the tip.If you click on the video title/ description you'll find a link to a collection of.photos . All the best

I remember back in either 1970 or 1971, my brother one of his mates and I had saved some money, I don't remember exactly how much but it must have been a fair bit for those days, and we took off to Luna Park. We lived in Mordialloc so it was a hell of a journey for three kids of that age to make without their parents. It was after dark when we got home &, my God, did we get into trouble. I'm 60 this year, my brother died way back in 1976, but my parents never ever found out. Great days. Safe days.
