Being an artist myself, I’ve started to realize that all the little imperfections that I’ve always been insecure about in myself are actually some of my favourite things to draw - hip dips, stretch marks, unconventional features, you name it! I know it’s cliche, but these “imperfections” are genuinely what make us all unique and beautiful. Thank you for showing that, in their own way, everyone is art! ✨💗

I was always confused by why body hair was considered gross for women but not men. I’m a man, and I have both older and younger sisters. I remember my dad getting on one of them for having “gross” leg hair. I was so confused. I had never shaved my legs once and he never bothered me about it. Why is my leg hair fine because I’m a man, and my sister’s is “disgusting” because she is a woman? Makes no sense

yeah i was always pressured to shave my legs and felt like I was ugly and would try to hide my legs when I didn't for a while, but just recently i stopped bc i realized it was never really my choice to and im more comfortable with body hair. im nonbinary but if i was born a boy my parents wouldnt bat an eye if i wanted to keep my body hair, and probably discourage me if i wanted to shave. its so dumb. also how come arm hairs are more acceptable than leg hairs? i always got comments on my legs but barely my arms, its weird. i guess because legs are supposed to be smooth and "sexy" or something, idk. i like being fluffy

Yeah it really is dumb how body hair is portrayed with "ugliness". Shame how society can't let people just live. If you want to shave so that you're legs are smoother, fine. If not, also fine. I wish there was a bigger majority of people with the same mindset as this comment section.
It's just sad that women from the age they start developing body hair are bothered and pressured by others to shave/wax it off. And all it has to do with is if a woman "wants to look like a man or not." It's completely stupid and pointless!

I use crows feet and eyebags and smile likes like how folks use makeup. I use em to highlight a character’s features. It’s fun and expressive and adds a little bit of almost chaotic honesty to the piece.

It honestly sucks how much people demonize ageing. Ive seen post online of people making fun of celebrities for "ageing like milk" and proceed to post a photo of them of when they were 19 and compare it to a photo of them in the present. While completely ignoring the fact that they're 72 or something. Like yeah no shit they dont look like super models anymore they SIMPLY GREW OLD JUST LIKE HOW EVERYONE ELSE WILL EVENTUALLY!!!

@@abcdefg-hv2ks I get the idea but that's actually a misconception. The average age wasn't 30 because most people died at that age, but because of the high infant mortality. When you survived childhood in the middle ages and had no complications during childbirth, then you actually had decent chances of living much longer than to 30.

I'm a trans girl, and one thing I've noticed is that whenever I don't live up to the stereotype of what a girl is supposed to be, people will say that I'm not "actually trans" or whatever, and that's really messed up over time. But this video single-handedly healed half of all my insecurities, and I seriously can't thank you enough for that.

It’s so weird how we dictate certain traits as “unattractive” for the stupidest reasons. I actually do want to get better at giving my characters more diverse traits like body hair, scars, moles, stretch marks, wrinkles, etc, and I found this video very encouraging!
Something that helped me to diversify was making fanarts of ocs and characters that had said features, before trying on my drawings. Because it helped me figure how I'd do their features in my style.
It can be tricky to find thought, like for stretch marks, I haven't seen many artists using them (unless it was realistic drawing)
All of those fetures are either simply natural or don't really harm the individual justifying the uglyness.
THat is why it is stupid, it has no really like outside of looking meh it doesn't really have a Rigid argument to be considered ugly.
Wrinkles are often seen as unattractive because millions of years of evolution has programmed in our brains that having wrinkles indicates they're older which indicates they're less able to reproduce. Stretch marks are probably seen as unattractive because they resemble wrinkles at a glance. Moles and body hair are subjective. Scars depends a lot on severity; more severe scars (particularly to the face) might disrupt the features of a person enough that they register as uncanny in an onlooker's mind.
My point is not that these are "right" attitudes of attractiveness to hold, just that they aren't arbitrary -- there's evolutionary precedent for many of them. And there's not much you can do to change that; you can't make yourself be attracted to what you're not attracted to, after all. The best we can do is not make assumptions about a person's character based on any of these sorts of physical qualities

I don’t want my arstyle to be too realistic so I try not to add so many of those features . Not that it’s bad, I js don’t want it to be realistic, and it’s not like I’m obligated to make my characters look like that.
Edit: Okay me some features but not all. Features like body hair would make it too realistic and I don’t give that to any of my characters whether it’s a boy, girl, non-binary, etc
Wrinkles will always be beautiful to me. It’s a physical sign of how much your laughed in your life and there is nothing purer than laughter.
right???? for me personally a genuine smile and genuine laughter, even the subtlest of it, are the most beautiful parts of a human being. we express emotion by making different faces, and every little movement over time can cause a little wrinkle.
and wrinkles are caused by those things. wrinkles are caused by humans expressing emotion in the rawest of ways. whoever says that wrinkles are ugly have the ugliest of hearts.

I've also noticed that with women with body hair are often considered "unheigenic". I am in the JROTC program and one uniform inspection day a cadet of a higher rank told me that I should pluck the hairs in between my eyebrows, then he said he wouldn't dock me off one point because "I didn't look like Frida Kahlo". Apparently neat eyebrows of women fall into the good hygiene requirement in the uniform. Another example of this is when my dad was trying to convince me to shave my legs because shaved legs are easier to exfoliate and they are "cleaner", even though his legs are just as hairy as mine. As always, your illustrations are beautiful.
idk what branch you’re in, but I’m a college freshman in AROTC and I’m 90% sure that he can’t tell you that (at least by Army standards)
AR 670-1 has no grooming standards for eyebrows besides permanent makeup tattoos, as long as you “wear the uniform so as not to detract from [your] overall military appearance”
uniform regulations are pretty subjective sometimes, but if he tells you to do that again, find the nearest guy with visible hairs between his eyebrows and ask if it detracts from his professional image. If he says no, your eyebrows are 100% AR 670-1 compliant (as long as you’re army jrotc lol idk about other branches)

Im really sorry for gross stuff I'm about to tell, but my dad shaves his butt cz of hygiene. Like damn, I'm actually proud of him. My mom's side of family don't have body hair, like at all: my granny have zero and my grandpa barely have some on his legs and a spot on his chest, so mom is kinda mix of it. But my dad is almost werewolf level of hairy. Cz of all of it mom didn't know how to be with my hair when I started to grow them. Good thing she never forced me cz of "hygiene", I don't actually need it, but my dad does, and damn respect again. In my country masculinity standards are pretty stupid and dad jokes sometimes that he can't go to sauna cz of that haha. It just shocks me how some guys can have a shitty situation around their butthole and shame girls about legs or arms with that excuse, but it doesn't have anything to do with hygiene damn it!

As a woman of mediterranean descent there is a part of me that identified with Frida's appearance. Esp since I got bullied for my eyebrows when I was younger.

This guy made fun of me yesterday in school. He said the amount of arm hair I have is just one step away from becoming big foot. Thing is, he is guaranteed to have more noticeable arm hair than you unless he's blonde. Men can say whatever they want about women's appearances, but nobody is saying the same things to men. If I (an afab) have to shave my legs to make a man happy, he better be shaving his legs for me too. It doesn't matter what you look like or how you identify. We all deserve equal treatment.

I’ve realized through the years of being an artist that insecurities can seriously MAKE a character. Having a unique feature makes OC’s look so beautiful and different from any other character you can find online. It makes original characters seem more *original.*
As someone with lots of body hair and endless stretch marks, ist sometimes hard to see it as pretty in the world we live in. This was incredibly empowering and confident boosting. Thank you Lavender

I never knew stretch marks were shimmery! I just thought only mine were, so when people would give me advice for preventing them and whatnot I was always just like "Oh, I'm good. Mine are iridescent!" 😆 I feel the same about my grey hairs, they are silver and make me feel like rainbow fish! Who could be mad about that?! It's not even reframing your mind it's just looking at reality and making your own decisions.
For me, I don't have much leg hair, but I LOVE how smooth and soft they are when I shave, so I'm gonna keep doing that. For myself, once a week. My husband doesn't even notice if I forgot to shave or missed a spot! 😆 He's even made a comment about how smooth my legs are, I must have just shaved, and I was like "actually my hairs are extra long right now." 😆 He's cute! One of my sisters doesn't shave because no one even notices. But I have also heard of women not shaving for the exact opposite reason, that they don't like how prickly and gross their shaved legs feel. One woman did try to wax her legs for her husband one time, but I don't think that happened again...

ive always had pale skin and strawberry skin (basically just constant goosebumps) and its made me insecure but ive seen other artists make light of them and its made me feel so much more confident tbh
I have that too!!! It makes me really scared to wear shirts that don't cover my arms, but I've seen so many artist draw them on characters and it's made me confident enough to show my arms :)

Same, until I hit puberty I used to love my leg hair because it was really soft and kept me warm (bc I'm always cold for some reason) but I felt really pressured to shave it, now I just let it grow out

This made me so happy as someone who is barely even a teenager but gets so much negative attention and hate from family members because I don't shave my legs, I constantly feel insecure about my decision and everyone is always pushing me to stop. Nothing wrong with not shaving legs, never had a bad thing happen to them as a result. It's been years.
I feel like I'll never be able to wear anything shorter than pants because of how one of my parents have conditioned me to feel about my own body hair, and how I've been brought to believe how the world thinks. But, inherently, I know there's nothing wrong with it. There WILL always be at LEAST one person that doesn't like something. They just happen to be one of those people, feeling the need to voice their thoughts about something that doesn't effect them anywhere near as much as it effects you. It's not expensive, not costing anyone anything to not shave your legs. No health risk to you or others... Maybe being sure of that can help you be more sure of what you decided

The only trouble I honestly ever had at all is that I naturally overheat to sweating pretty often, and not shaving my armpits can make it harder for deodorant to work. (And shaving doesn't make me sweat less, sorry if it's too much info!) There's still nothing wrong with not shaving at all - moustache, arms, armpits, it's all fine.
My arms definitely have more natural hair than I've seen on other girls. It used to make me so paranoid, and admittedly, it still does sometimes because of my family. They're more based around appearance than they realize, and trying to suit them by shaving didnt help me at all. I've learned for myself that body hair isn't something to be ashamed of having, I guess the hard part is overcoming society's extreme "beauty standards" that can only be achieved by spending outrageous amounts of money and being a walking photoshop image... which is impossible.
Beauty isn't pain, and there's never going to be a single "perfect" image of it, even with all the editing in the world - but at the end of the day, you aren't hurting yourself by having natural body hair, and no one is with you more than yourself. It's not wrong to enjoy a natural look!

Man, even as a transmasc, I HATED the expectations women were told to follow. But what I hated more than that was other women pushing the same thing!! Like, I'll never forget my own grandma whispering to me "You should just accept that you're fat" in the middle of a mall clothing store (I am not/was never fat, chubby but not fat, and this wasn't the first time she made comments about my body/weight) or outright telling me that I just wanted to make my boobs look bigger just because, and get this, I wanted to wear a dress in a size that fit me comfortably and not wear a size up (Dress ended up almost slipping off my shoulders)! How effed up is that!? Society. Man. Just let ladies be comfortable in their own skin and stop managing their lives!!
Thank you! I've had similar experiences with my own mother and grandmother telling me that I should do my eyebrows, shave my legs and armpits, and wear makeup. I've never felt more insecure as when I have had to use makeup and they won't accept that I'm happy the way I am
I completely agree, it really really sucks that everyone labels being just a bit more rounded, chubbier, or heftier is all one "fat body type." I can relate to those comments about body weight so I know how much that must've really hurt and I am so sorry about your experience with your own family. (I'm on the opposing end of the spectrum, pretty badly underweight and malnourished and sometimes I'm just not happy enough to eat for days, and to this day I still get jokes especially from close family about being a "twig" "skeleton" etc)
Also, on the flip side, fat should've never became associated negatively. People insult others and call being fat as if it means ugly, but Fatness and prettiness aren't mutually exclusive and anyone can be both at the same time.

This omg I'm nonbinary and I always grew up with my mom and older sister taking me to the side and telling me to do certain things about my appearance, otherwise its embarrassing, but I just wanted to exist. It made my already low self esteem even lower bc it felt like there was always something wrong with me for them to nitpick. It took me a long time to grow comfortable in my own skin without trying to live up to others expectations but I'm much happier now that I don't worry what people think and decide for myself what I'm most comfortable with

Body hair is genuinely attractive. It’s so nice! It’s basically just human fur, it’s good.
It is hard for an artist to draw the insecurities that we consider 'ugly'. You did a great job drawing these features in your styles since I don't see a lot of them to use for reference and want to empress them to feel positive to my own and others too that your unique than have every perfect characters with no flaws of beauty you see in highschool movies is so unrealstic. Thanks for your art to show imperfections to a beautiful light.
These types of videos are amazing. When I was 9 and hit puberty before the other kids I was taunted for having a "mustache" because I developed dark hair on my upper lip. And for having stretch marks because at 9 shot up from 4'6 to 5'4 by the time I reached age 12.
I'd love to see a video involving bigger noses or noses with a bump on the bridge (Roman nose, Hawk nose, Bumpy nose, etc) because all too often are our noses called "beaks" and were shamed for not having little button noses
As someone who actually has been somewhat shamed for a button nose (I used to try putting pins on my nose to get it pointer) I'm surprised that Roman noses aren't really appreciated. I've always thought they looked cool/nice looking and have always mentally associated it with a strong person. (This comment has actually inspired me to start planning for some face drawing exercises to help add more diversity in general from noses, eyes, chin shape, etc etc.)
I completely relate with the hair above the upper lip. It's sad that it's so common for people to shame "unconventional body hair" when body hair is completely normal and beneficial.

Yes! I'm Jewish, and I have always had a larger nose than the standard, and I never see people with noses like mine in media. It's seen as ugly, and that's a damn shame.
Those and 'peach fuzz,' 'pock marks,' untanned scars that don't darken when you tan, and so on. Like dude people are not photoshop models lol.

THANK 👏 YOU 👏 as a trans guy, I like keeping my armpit hair and leg hair bc it makes me feel gender euphoria, but my mom tells me to shave it and when I ask her why I have to shave but my brother doesn’t she says, “because our society doesn’t like girls who have hairy pits.” She makes me feel so self conscious about it and I feel like I always need to wear a long sleeved shirt to cover up my pit hair (she thankfully hardly notices my leg hair). Ty for making this video, we need to start embracing our imperfections, because they make us all unique and beautiful in our own way!

We are literally the same. I'm trans too and a few days ago my mom asked me if I'd shaven my pits and I said I can't remember (that was a lie, I wanna keep them so I don't) and she literally told me "You have to, you're a girl."

I would love to see more of this. Some more ideas: acne/acne scars, scars in general, asymmetrical features, strawberry skin/visible pores, dark eye circles (mine are just the veins around my eye, but it looks like huge eye bags! I hate em!), big noses, wonky teeth/missing teeth, underbite, and soft chins/jawlines. All i can think of atm but yeah, there's definitely far too many ways that people feel insecure in themselves and thus feel a need to buy some (usually actually useless) product to "improve themselves" and be "more attractive". Much like the constant fashion trends to fit in with whats "cool" atm.. just crazy

To me, it's the features or insecurities that are deemed to be "imperfections" that I find most beautiful. Fat, teeth gaps, uneven teeth, scars, stretch marks, gray hairs, body hair, you name it!
I especially love the little details of the skin. I love the way it dips and fold and drapes over the body. I love little markings on the skin, be it freckles, birth marks, scars, stretch marks or even acne!
I also really love "imperfect" teeth. I myself have very wonky teeth. I have an extra tooth where an adult tooth grew behind a baby tooth that never fell out and 3 of my 5 kanine teeth are further forward than usual. They kinda look like troll tusks. I think these are some of my most beautiful features. I love my smile. I love seeing other wonky teeth smiles. They're just so genuine and beautiful and pure.
These little details prove that we're human. Complex beings with unique experiences, thoughts and feelings. No two are exactly the same. I think that pretty damn beautiful.

When I was growing up I didn’t even realize stretch marks were a thing and I thought I had problems with my skin, it actually stressed me out a lot as a preteen. It makes me very glad that people are getting told about these things and won’t have the same experience I had.
I personally have a lot of body hair, especially on my legs, I was insecure, and people looked at me weird, but then they also looked at my upper and, it hurt.. it hurts still to see people ashamed for their features, it will always hurt. The only way for it to not hurt, is acceptance, and everyday these dermatologists say these things and it just makes it harder, and harder, and harder. Now I see how pushed I was as a kid to shave, and to take care of my pimples with lots of expensive products, how to smile to avoid wrinkles etc. but also, now I see all features are amazing, its just natural.
This turns my dysphoria into euphoria, thank you ❤❤❤❤
No, you didn’t *make* these features beautiful. You *reminded* people that they already were.
You weren’t afraid to accentuate them the same way we would accentuate “conventionally beautiful” things, and that’s what makes these pieces of art so beautiful. That’s true love of the human body and all of its “imperfections”.

Self-love is not a linear journey and can have many ups and downs, but it is a journey that is important for all of us. my personal self-love journey as a transmasc person has been a roller coaster haha
I went from abhorring any feminine trait in myself, having very strong episodes of dysphoria because of it, from being a little more ok with these parts of myself and wearing feminine clothes, to almost completely accepting my body as it is now
i still have some very deep downs, sometimes it's hard to look myself in the mirror, like it's a completely unrecognizable person looking back at me
it's specially hard being in a living condition where I can't hide my breasts or use binders due to the climate where I live or not having the capacity to effort it financially
(I live in the country with more violence against transgender people so these type of binders aren't common or effortable, the closest thing you'd be able to get are women's gym top)
sadly dysphoria never really goes away, but it does get better over time, specially when you have people who accept and love you unconditionally aroud you
TLDR: beauty standards suck & society would be way better without cisheteronormative gender roles, just let people live their lives

i'm transmasc (in the sense that im a trans boy enby, i'm actually quite fem), and it's great seeing more transmascs talking about those stuff aimed at people with prominent X chromossomes, it's a mix of toxic feminists telling you to "not erase your womanhood", with brainwashed women telling you to hide your insecurities, toxic LGBTQ+ people telling you you're not masculine enough to be trans, and incels telling you that you are an "ugly liberal" or something, while you're literally just having a little bit of hair in your armpits and stretch marks in the big chest you want to remove 💀

This was such an encouraging and sweet video concept! I loved each one of them. If you do a part two, I think: hip dips, clef chin, eye bags, teeth gap, and acne/moles and face marks would all be good things to draw that people are insecure about. As an artist who always tries to make my characters more diverse, it helped to remind me that it's the little details that I should be adding to my drawings. Love your art, and keep drawing!! 💕💕
Hip dips would be fantastic ❤❤❤ it's such a common body thing that's treated like it doesn't exist!! I found out only a few years ago that I was perfectly normal, and it was my BONE structure!!! It's absolutely wild.

I have such a huge problem with looking in the mirror, I'm almost convinced I'll never get past having problems with my face. It's been since teenage years and never stopped once, but I refuse to buy any of those products that "fix it". I know for sure that I'll just end up worse later on.
@@RadiantSharaShaymin I also used to not like my face, but one thing that helped me like how I look was thinking of people who I think are pretty and matching some of our facial features. Because you would never tell someone you love that they are ugly, and if you have similar features why would that make you ugly and not them? Also watching people like Clara Dao and BTS really helped my self confidence.I'm sure you are beautiful inside and out!! Stay confident and love yourself! 💕

I used to be insecure about my hairy legs but now I really don't care if people think it's ugly or something, I honestly think it looks fine cuz It's kinda the same as having hair on your head, just I don't spend 15 minutes trying to brush it.
I've just turned 23, not even a month ago- and I've been taught most of my life that wrinkles make you look "old" and that body hair is "gross"
I'm insecure about my stretch marks, because I have some on the back of my knees and on my hips. It just makes me feel like something is wrong, or like they're gross scars that will never heal
It's been a struggle to teach myself that wrinkles are okay and to be more comfortable with body hair, but it was *such* a shock to see Lavendertowne make stretch marks look pretty

Wrinkles remind me of my Mama, and of all her beautiful friends. Eye bags remind me of myself, body hair reminds me of cats, etc etc. All features of a body can be beautiful if you have a beautiful personality and person.
I started tearing up at the body hair one because she almost looks just like me (you know, besides the bunny ears and flower in her leg hair) and I've been so insecure about my body hair because it grows pretty dark and thick, and I'm so glad that someone is encouraging people to feel good about themselves
We have such unrealistic beauty standards :( thank you for challenging them and making people feel more comfortable with being human :D
Stretch marks, omg. So this artist I started following lately made this really cute and really sexy comic about a fandom otp post having their first child together and she's so self conscious about her stretch marks and feels really ugly and he tells her not to be stupid and kisses the marks and is just really super romantic about it and it just made my heart explode. Sometimes it's the little things that can really move you.
And seriously screw the beauty industry. It definitely preys on people's insecurities. If makeup and shaving and whatnot makes you happy, go for it, but nobody should *ever* feel obligated to do either just to exist as a whole and complete and beautiful person.

I had a really eye-opening experience when I noticed the sunlight glowing through the peach fuzz on my (then 6 years old) niece's legs. Realizing that even little kids that haven't gone through puberty have body hair was a formative experience, especially because I was a teenager at the time and extra concerned about my image. Every once in a while when I'm petting my cats, I think "nobody would ask this sweetheart to shave her legs." I still have issues with body hair (I would like to be a hairless alien, thanks), but I know that's a personal problem and I never comment on another person's appearance. It doesn't matter what I'm insecure about. Other people don't need to share my insecurities.

Personally, I feel like if you have lines around your eyes and mouth it's an indication you smile alot....wear it as a badge of pride.

And I was SO insecure, but then I saw somewhere “stretch marks are waves in your skin, just as beautiful as the waves in the sand” something like that and now I absolutely Adore my stretch marks!!!😁😁💙comparing all these “ugly” human things to beautiful things you see in nature is my favorite way to look at everything, we all need to remember we came from the earth, and the earth is beautiful just the way it is. I have the same trouble... I'm plenty of years out from being a teenager, and got incredibly unlucky in that I've had nonstop trouble with acne since late middle school. But I'm way too stubborn to start using products now.

The only reason you should be concerned about body hair is if you grow a peach fuzz all over you; that's a sign of malnutrition and it means your body is so cold from not having enough energy and fuel its growing extra hair to stay warm

i get dogged on for my armpit hair all the time. it makes me feel feminine. people say its mascculine because "only men have it" but women have it to, you jsut never see it because women are told to shave. besides, i dont like shaving, i always end up hurting myself.

What has boosted my confidence about body hair was when I was in elementary school at a park, and older girl (probably a young teen) told me that body hair is cool cause it helps you keep warmer then without. Years later idk if that’s true or not but I find it cool too

Sometimes I forget that body hair is undesirable because I draw it on all of my characters and walk around with gorilla legs wherever I go lol. It’s really hard to see things like this as beautiful, especially if you have them yourself. You really have to take an objective look outside of yourself to see beauty in your own features, sometimes. Thank you for making this video! I’m sure all the self conscious girlies feel the same 🫶
Because of all of the beauty standards and what imperfections are deemed ugly, I was scared to draw them. I also have many imperfections that I hate and want to get rid of. But now I've grown some more, (yes, I am crediting myself) and I'm not actually scared to draw things that aren't perfect on characters anymore. Well, I'm not good at drawing them, but I still am happier with my art now-on top of that, my art really has improved so much these past few months :}.

Personally I believe shaving is s preference and the way people consider it unhygienic is crazy like yeah most sweat and odor can form but it matters if you take care of it, if you want to shave go for it if you don’t want to don’t just don’t harass people for shaving or not shaving whether that’s to meet beauty standards or to beat toxic positivity
