    I have a 89 and a 91 and i have used the 91 pretty much as a my daily for several decades, one week will not go by where i almost get pushed out of the road by someone wanting to buy it or someone at the gas pump telling me how it was their first car or how it reminds them of something important in their life, i treasure that.

  • @marks93cobra

    If I remember correctly, Ford was kinda pissed that people bought these R's and then proceeded to put them in garages like this....they wanted them to be raced (that's what the R stands for, race, not retail or resell). I believe that's why for the '95 Cobra R you could only buy one if you had a competition road or drag racing license.

    • @motownXJdad9565

      the deal was you had to have a registered racing team to even buy one, regular people werent supposed to be able to purchase them because Gord wanted them to be raced, and not hoarded in a collection

      Sometimes it hurts to see these cars never got their time out crushing tracks or backroads cause people wanted to keep miles down. I understand the preservation aspect and it would be sick to walk in the garage and there’s practically a brand new one waiting. but like some people just get to caught up on numbers

    I bought #288 of 300 2000 Mustang Cobra R model new ($64K plus tax tag and title, so pretty much $70k out the door) and owned her for several years...at that time by far the best (and fastest) car I had ever owned. Really a phenomenally engineered car, you could do 177 mph in the car with one hand on the steering wheel and it was just dead solid. I once raced a very rare BMW 8 series 2 door car on the street from a stop light up to about 145mph and beat him pretty good. when he caught up to me he was waving me down and I expected he was going to give me the finger or something, but he asked me to pull over and he said what is that? I explained to him what it was and he said okay that explains how you beat me, he said he was shocked when I walked away from him and just kept pulling him past 125mph. He said I was the first Mustang that he wasn't able to embarrass. i told him I had owned two BMW 318/20's and i knew what his car was when he pulled up next to me and seemed to want to go, most people didn't know what a 2000 Cobra R was so I assumed he didn't either. Ford had the engine rated at 390 H.P. but dyno runs of the day had it rated at closer to 435 BHP. p.s. I now own a 2019 Ferrari 488 spider (677 BHP, 206 MPH).

      Hes a lucky son,these are really fun cars to be treasured and enjoyed,too many of them ended up in the pull a part from people beating on them day and night,i cringe when i see someone cutting these up to be a race car or what not,its like "dude they dont make these anymore and haven't for decades!!" lol
      There are several things you have to do to these cars that is a very worthwhile thing like replacing the alternator with a mid 90s Mustang (like a 96) , the alternator that came on these was useless,conversion to electric fan,one of the best things i ever did and replacing the starter with a 92 Mustang on up (mini starter) the original starters are boat anchors and a few other things that you can do, besides that i like them stock, no need for those cold air intakes either, the stock box works fine, no need for underdrive pulleys or MSD boxes or anything like that,money down the toilet.

    The Cobra R spec engine specification was also used in the Australian 1992 Ford Falcon EB GT. 262-264 HP net on the Aston Martin Tickford engine dyno. Watson's supplied the Japanese built Showa GT40 intake and the same Build spec as the Cobra R's motor. The engine is a delight, even in a heavier Australian four door Falcon. Great to see David again. I remember the UTG/ Stickman/RevEvan interview on the 87 13.5 second Fox Mustangs. David, he had great stuff.

The last of the Windsor's was also the most powerful 5.0 pushrod made. To think the new 5.0 Darkhorse Mustang is going to have 500hp is just ridiculous, and un-imaginable back when mine came out in 2001 !!

Listed were the regular teal, black & red, but also a color called Vibrant Red, and next to it was a 1. I've been told over the years that it was a misprint, and that car doesn't exist. Unfortunately if the roads were wet I couldn't keep it out of the ditches , metaphorically speaking , so I got rid of it . I also did put it at a high speed on the interstate once but I won't say here on the internet . Amazing to see, but I traded it for a teal 93. I drove it, it did not sit. Bought it with 26,000 on April 1st 95, and when I traded it in July of 98 it had just turned 90,000. Very very cool, I bought brand new an 1989 LX Hatch 5.0 5SPD and it was the same color sort of but it was called Blue metallic, I loved the 89 LX as it was first year the LX's had the GT interior and the very last year the FOX had tilt wheel. Yeah, I never should got rid of it, got into Harleys for the next 20 years. Also 25th anniversary year for Mustangs was 1989 and they had some added anniversary things done to them. While I like these later Fox bodies, I would have a hard time not having the tilt wheel, heck got one in my E350. But heck yeah, I would of course take one of these very limited versions any day. All Foxes are getting to hard to find in original, un molested condition, way too many guys raced and ruined some really nice cars, but it was their choice as the owners to do what they wanted. If I had the money, hit the lottery, I would not even come close to a new Ford dealer to buy a new Mustang, I'd find a nice 1989 LX hatch or sedan in nice shape, low miles.......dreaming I guess?

    These were good times for Ford, and I was lucky enough to grow up with Dad as a Ford Executive. He was a Ford VP when I was in Jr. High.
    You mentioned Ford made cars for Ford Executives and I can attest this was true throughout the 70's, 80's and 90's.
    Two new cars every year, and it didn't seem to matter what we got, *something magical happened to cars that said Ford VP on the build sheet.* Mom always had Country Squire Wagon, Grand Marquis, or Town Car which may sound boring but even during the smog laden 70's Mom's car always had duel exhaust, rarely seen aluminum wheels, massive front and rear sway-bars, and would smoke the tires (both rear tires) the entire way down the road. Dad would of course diversify from the latest Lincoln Mark XX to the 1979 Mustang Turbo Pace Car (that I learned to drive in), to SVT or GT mustangs to a couple imports like the XR4Ti and the American 'wanna-be' Cosworth Sierra (which had a weak V6 in the states). I truly enjoyed the first SHO Taurus in California. Often, we would literally pick up our cars from the LA auto show. The "all new" 1983 Thunderbird was the first in California as well.
    Good times, thanks for the memories.

    • @dntlss
      @dntlss 2 года назад +1

      Unless people ventured out of the United States back in the 80s or were lucky like you having your Dad being high up in the company most people will never know how much fun the true XR4TI's were,i grew up overseas because my dad was in the oil business, here a little bit, there a little bit, all over the place,lol, and when those cars came out they were the shit back then, my sister had the very base model, probably 20 (twenty,lol) horsepower and man that was a cool car for the time, very revolutionary and of course the big dogs around town had the fully loaded ones, man those things were fast.
      The SHO was another freaking awesome car so were the Late 80s and 90s T birds,man you brought back an lot of good memories,i actually have 2 of these Mustangs and a 95 Thunderbird and a few more,none of them pristine but they are all there for the most part, im one of those fools that falls in love with cars and keeps them,ha ha ha

    • @kevinsellsit5584
      @kevinsellsit5584 Год назад

      @@dntlss I was blessed indeed! RIP Dad. So here is the irony of the situation. This entire time from shortly after I got my license through the 90's I owned an imported 1976 Capri which I turned road/drag race demon. Built in Cologne Germany my Capri was modified with all the best hot rod goodies 4bbl Holley, Offy intake, massive aluminum gear drive cam, ported heads, headers, Mono leaf, Bilstein shocks, homemade traction bars, etc etc. I loved Ford of Europe and the very rare (in the USA) 1976 1977 (Mercury) Ford Capri. I made mine LOOK exactly like a European 1980-83 Ford 3.0S Capri right down to the 3.0S decals and emblems, to the correct Recaro seats and upholstered in the latest SVT fabric including headliner. Again, thanks Dad. Note: You can't get 3.0 S side stripes here unless you "know someone".
      So now imagine my 1976 V6 Capri blowing the doors off anything and everything Dad brought home. My car was fast and would turn low 13's at Carlsbad with road racing slicks and mid 13's with the 5MPH bumpers removed on street tires. That sounds slow now, but in 1985 I could smoke Mustang GT's and IROC Camaro's that were stock.
      His first year/first in Ca SHO was the only car that wasn't in my rear-view mirror by the 1/8 mile. (I think his SHO had some VP magic done to it as well, it was fun!)
      Often, I would wake up on the weekend and my car was nowhere to be found, nor was Dad. He would show up a few hours later saying he was at the local Lincoln Mercury dealer giving people rides.
      "That thing is ferocious in first gear" his words not mine. "I know Dad, I built it".
      So now I'm old and I want a pristine Capri to put a 600+hp Honda K swap in, (Dad rolls over in his grave), but they don't seem to exist here in the states.
      On your side of the pond, they are much more common since they were produced through 1986 and sold through 1989.
