Yeah when this originally came out it was under Terence Trent D'Arby. It was a HUGE hit back in the day, along with his song "Wishing Well" (he pulls out all the MJ moves in that music video--dude really can dance). I didn't even know he'd changed his name until maybe a few yrs ago.
It was released in the USA around Feb 1988. I know this because I got my license the day i turned 16 later that summer. I had the best makeout session to this song playing. Kayla, I hope you're well wherever life took you. What a memory. THANKS FOR TAKING ME BACK.
The little girl in the music video isn't his daughter because this song and music video were released in 1988. React to his songs Who's Loving You (Jackson Five cover), Dance Little Sister, If You Let Me Stay, Wishing Well and To Know Someone Deeply Is To Know Someone Softly please.
I had 3 cassette tapes (yes you read that right) I switched between in the Navy I listened to to go to sleep (I worked nights): TTD - Intro the hardline Sade - Diamond life Yanni - Reflect passion I had all 3 MEMORIZED
Wow, this song could've been a Sade cover, definitely her slow, seductive rhythm style. Terrence didn't have plastic surgery. It was Jackson who had over a dozen facial reconstructions, not to look like Terrence, just coincidental. If and when you get around to D'Arby's hit "Wishing Well" you might hear & see where the Prince references come in. Great music!
This superb voice was silenced unfairly. He is a musical force was too overpowering for that era. His big competition was Michael Jackson and the powers that be was not about to let him overtake Michael.
I love TTD but there’s no way he would overtake MJ. Their music isn’t the same, and by the time he came out, MJ was already MJ. There’s literally no comparison.
This man was a huge talent!
I absolutely LOVE TTD... I was in love with him in the 90's. I haven't seen him lately but I thought he was gorgeous back then... and his VOICE 😍
Thanks for reacting to this, it sure brings back some memories. I hadn't thought of this song in years, but it used to be one of my favorites.
Cuz ur probably around my age & we were kids when this came out. This was always on the radio
I remember this guy but only by D'arby, from my teens.

I was thinking the same exact thing. Very similar flow. Different voices, same vibe.
It was actually written by him because of a dream he had about Sade. True story!
Sorry, Mugnify, he doesn't look like MJ. He was the male version of Sade, soooooo sexy. 😊
That came out in 1987..
The woman and child in video were not his real family.
