  • On August 10, 2017, I spent a few hours at Prospect Park, PA in an attempt to catch a SEPTA AEM-7 on a rush hour express train. The AEM-7 has always been my favorite locomotive and I wanted to catch the last operating ones in the world before they too are replaced with ACS-64s in 2018. I only managed to see one, but the wait was well worth it, as I caught a ton of Amtrak action on the busy corridor.
    Train 1: Amtrak Acela Express - 8/10/17 4:31 PM
    Amtrak Acela Power Car #2009
    Amtrak Acela Power Car #2020
    Train 2: Amtrak Northeast Regional - 8/10/17 4:59 PM
    Amtrak ACS-64 #649
    Train 3: Amtrak Northeast Regional - 8/10/17 5:00 PM
    Amtrak ACS-64 #641
Next up was a very awesome 4-way meet. Also of note was the Heritage Diner on 97, which will probably be 100% Viewliner II by the end of the year.
    Train 4: SEPTA Wilmington/Newark Line - 8/10/17 5:25 PM
    SEPTA Silverliner IV #410
    SEPTA Silverliner IV #291
    Train 5: Amtrak Northeast Regional - 8/10/17 5:26 PM
    Amtrak ACS-64 #612
    Train 6: Amtrak Silver Meteor #97 - 8/10/17 5:27 PM
    Amtrak ACS-64 #622
    Train 7: SEPTA Wilmington/Newark Line - 8/10/17 5:28 PM
    SEPTA Silverliner IV #456
    SEPTA Silverliner IV #405
    Train 8: Amtrak Acela Express - 8/10/17 5:31 PM
    Amtrak Acela Power Car #2016
    Amtrak Acela Power Car #2038
    Train 9: Amtrak Northeast Regional - 8/10/17 5:34 PM
    Amtrak ACS-64 #639
Finally, I saw the AEM-7 appear in the distance. This may end up being my last ever shot of one in service.
    Train 10: SEPTA Wilmington/Newark Line - 8/10/17 5:45 PM
    SEPTA Silverliner IV #162
    Train 11: SEPTA Wilmington/Newark Express - 8/10/17 5:46 PM
    SEPTA AEM-7 #2304
    SEPTA Bombardier Cabcar #2410

All but one of the SEPTA AEM-7's and their ALP-44 are currently in the morrisville PA NJT yard, not moving since December 2018.

It seems to catch my attention that SEPTA's AEM-7 locomotives are nearing the end of their careers as well just like Amtrak fleet before them I always find this Swedish design and American built locomotives as they were a Northeast Corridor electric locomotive icon it's the engine that saved passenger service on the Northeast Corridor a time when the gg1 electrics were nearing their careers for a long time the AEM-7s ruled Supreme on the Northeast Corridor reaching top speed of 125 miles per hour which sped up the metroliner train service faster than the multiple-unit train sets which were now converted into cab control cars and they ran exclusively for a career spanning 39 years correct me if I'm wrong on the number of years. Amtrak retired the last of their aem-7 locomotives in 2015 after the farewell trip from Washington DC to Philadelphia and return following a tour of Amtrak Newark Delaware shops on the return leg.

I certainly hope that SEPTA AEM-7 locomotive gets saved for preservation so we can have four surviving examples counting the three surviving Amtrak engines

I hope as many as possible get preserved. There are not three preserved Amtrak engines, though. There is only the 915 at RRmPA. The future of the two AC units that went to TTCI is definitely not certain, although they will most likely stay intact for a while. Also, there are about 15 AEM-7s in storage at Bear, DE that got moved there relatively recently and are all still intact, although their future is even less certain.

Does anyone know the exact date of the final septa AEM7 train

They still only have one ACS-64 and it is not anywhere close to revenue service so that’s a no.
