    I was like 6 when septa geddon happened so obviously I wasn’t a railfan, and definitely didn’t have access to a phone which is why now as a 17 year old I’m grateful these videos are out here!

    It feels like this was yesterday that the SL-Vs were pulled and SEPTA was cobbling together trains from different agencies, but it's been 6 years. Pretty crazy how the SL-IVs are now getting on 50 years old and still seem to be holding up really well, while most of Vs barely made it past 5 years (and some less than that) before all this. (not to mention, the IVs seem to handle their weight better and ride better/don't sway around like crazy like the Vs do, IMO). Good video!

    Those leased NJ Transit sets could do R2 Newark runs because "NEWARK" is programmed into the sign's memory.

    • @CaseysTrains
      @CaseysTrains  8 лет назад

      Good point! Though I believe they will be restricted to the Trenton line because they rotate equipment with normal Northeast Corridor trains every Friday.

    • @GintaPPE1000
      @GintaPPE1000 8 лет назад +1

      To my knowledge the signs aren't restricted what they can display in theory, they're LED displays. The control system might need to be reprogrammed, but how long does it take to replace one string with another?

    • @CaseysTrains
      @CaseysTrains  4 года назад +1

      @@GintaPPE1000 Pretty time consuming considering how many Comets are out on the rails vs. how many will be assigned to two rush-hour runs on a neighboring railroad for a few months for an emergency disruption. Not mention the train was rotated btwn other Comet set at the end of the workweek. It just made no sense. Plus SEPTA Regional Rail is built like a giant Subway system. The Trenton Line is one of the few who feel like a true commuter rail line making it more suitable for a push-pull train rather than EMUs. The trains who were down were EMUs running lines with stations literally every 2 blocks. So most of the borrowed equipment only ran ONE trip each rush hour. It made no sense running borrowed push-pulls in stop-and-go service along the branches putting them in a higher chance of breaking down far from home. This is why these trains stood on the Trenton Line and use existing signage.

    how old are the SLVs you would think there would be a lifetime warranty on manufactur defects or something would bi-levels fit on some of the affected lines i know chicago likely has a few dozen electric metra units laying around that were gonna be hauled off soon

    • @CaseysTrains
      @CaseysTrains  8 лет назад +1

      The oldest SL-V is 6 years old, the newest being only 3. The cracks were found mainly in the "older" cars so under a 7 year/Unlimited Mile Warrenty they will have their trucks replaced. Unfortunately, due to our downtown tunnel's tight clearences and low platforms, the Highliner EMU wouldn't be able to fit on our system. There's also differences in voltage. Our MU cars are AC, The Highliners were DC. We wouldn't even be able to run them in shuttle service because our wire poles.

    • @mbclev
      @mbclev 8 лет назад +2

      I reckon the people in Denver might be concerned as well, because their transit system is getting trains that look like the SL-Vs for their new commuter rail lines.

    • @CaseysTrains
      @CaseysTrains  8 лет назад +2

      Denver is being a little TOO confident with their trains saying this problem shouldn't happen to them because their V cars are somewhat different. I'd like to see that 3 years from now.

    • @futurefirefighter9976
      @futurefirefighter9976 7 лет назад +1

      crapper1 the problem with bringing old metra highliners down to Philly is that the metra electric uses DC and the NEC is AC, so unless they do a lot of alterations to the highliners' electrical system there would be no purpose to it. and judging by the fact that septa has mostly single level cars I'm guessing that the highliners wouldn't fit in some stations.

    Anyone asking because I thought about for a minute, reason why MTA (New York) and ConnDOT couldn't help was because most of the fleet is 3rd Rail and Metro North's M8s which can use catenaries can't use low level platforms which some SEPTA stations have. Anything else on MTA or ConnDOT's Shore Line East is diesel, Septa doesn't wanna blow gas. So that's why they talked to MBTA in Massachusetts. Though they never sent anything down.

    • @zackboone15
      @zackboone15 6 лет назад

      The MBTA has barely enough rolling stock for itself, so its no surprise nothing got sent down.

    • @CaseysTrains
      @CaseysTrains  4 года назад

      Ehhhhhh I'mma have to stop ya there for a second, there WAS heavy consideration of Metro-North leading us some Coaches but because Amtrak didn't have enough ACS-64s to loan us and at the time, we only had 7 AEM-7s (the ALP was shopped during the entirety of SEPTAgeddon for an unrelated problem) cuz our ACSs were still being built so they had no engine to pull those cars so we told Metro-North we were taking a hard pass on their offer. MBTA and ConnDOT didn't even offer. SEPTA, however, HAS used Diesel in the past for similar disruptions, (we have a few switchers with HEP who can pull 3 or 4 cars but they are underpowered) however it was determined no to go that route since SEPTA wanted to A) run longer trains making diesel-haul trains impossible because those switchers suck, and B) not have to use 30th St Lower Level since the diesel can't go into Suburban Station due to the no-idling rule in the Center City Tunnel. If a diesel uses the tunnel they have run it non-stop unless its the wire-train. The wire train gets a pass cuz of its importance.

      +3ƧЯ3V3Я | REVERSE Studios ummmm. Not that I have seen. NJT doesn't leave NJ very far and they aren't legally obligated to go down to DC. It's not their tracks.

      +TheBlueComet833 Yes. they do go down to DC. They are leased by Amtrak for the day, and operate on 4 regionals. it's an arrow 3 set.

      @jerseycentral833 8 лет назад

      +3ƧЯ3V3Я | REVERSE Studios why would Amtrak lease an NJT for one day? It's not like they ran out of trains to run in Amtrak. It's impractical

      Why do we call the Willis Tower the Sears Tower? Why do we call One World Trade, The Freedom Tower? Why did they didn't make the CL6 with a clutch? And if you don't smoke then why the hell you reaching for Dutch? Why rap? Cuz I need air time. Why be on the curb with a "Why Lie? I need a beer" sign?
      Dude...this was shot in 2016. The renaming of Market East was still fresh in everyone's mind.

    Something to note: MARC I's don't exist -- they all have been scrapped. The set there are MARC IIB's. Check the numbers against Wikipedia and verify with the folks on the Railroad.net forums.

      He's a pot stirrer....don't mind him. He's been blocked from my channel for making this kind of outbursts on most of my videos. He also called me names. I know certain people are behind a computer screen think they're so bad, probably is 16 with no girlfriend and no friends so he take his frustrations out on my videos.
      Anyways, I appericate the comment, I do not ride MARC often or even go to Maryland often so I looked up the car name and got what Mr. Big Mouth also got and went with it. I however now you they are MARC IIB cars. We have 10 MARC IIBs and 5 MARC IIAs who came from being sidelined to being put into SEPTA service. The MARC IIA cars are easy to identify because their stripes are very faded. I got a video coming up at Darby with more MARC content including a mixed SEPTA/MARC Train.

    If the PRR Planners inHoover's day had any brains at all they woulda routed the El thru here.

    • @Poisson4147
      @Poisson4147 2 года назад

      Not compatible for shared running - the El is broad gauge, RRD is standard.
      They COULD have put in separate tracks but it would have been big-time expensive. And remember both systems were privately owned. Steam railroad owners didn't want to do squat to help *any* transit operators. E.g. that's why they forced broad gauge on trolley systems - 6" wider, which is too far from standard gauge to allow wide-tread wheels but too close to permit mixed rails.
