  • This was a great opportunity to get our hands on these wonderful devices. Whether you are a novice, intermediate or advanced knife sharpener, chances are you have looked at one of these pieces of equipment to help you. We compared all the heavy hitters. Everyone was very impressive. The results may surprise you. We would love to get your feedback if you have used any of these. We compared them in the sink and on the counter as well as in different sharpening ponds. They were all wonderful but not for everyone! We would highly recommend all of them, but we do have a winner.

    Hello Greg,
    I'm so thankful you made this video and took the time to explain the pros and cons of each sink bridge. I will admit that I'm a Naniwa fan boy so I thought their sink bridge was the best without even questioning it. I learned a lot from this so thank you.
    I hope you do more stone reviews/head to heada. I'm really enjoying those videos and hope to see some Naniwa Choseras (or professionals if you have the newer versions) in the line up to see how they hold up against the competition.
    Appreciate your time sir and hope you have a good day.

    "Shelf Liners" are great substitutes for rubber feet on the sharpening stone clamps. They wash out well and are inexpensive. I also use them to separate my stones for storage and stones can be rolled up in them for protection. Easily cut with scissors, they can be cut to the exact shape needed. So when you reline your shelves, safe the cut-offs!

    Very nice and complete video on sink bridges, best I have seen. You always give good tips, maybe this one will help you. I checked out some underside shots of the Naniwa. If you really like your Naniwa you can probably take a small file or a Dremel to the underside and put a 1mm notch in the extension bar to make it fit in your sink. It should not alter the integrity of the bar itself.

    As you know, I own the Kasfly. I have a big sink (slightly bigger than yours) but I absolutely love it. You might have added that the Kasfly does come with those two adhesive-backed rubber squares that you might be able to cut and use as non-skid feet but are primarily used as a sort of shield to prevent the machined metal from damaging the lip of your sink and ensure a much more snug fit. Also, the cheapo stone holder...it isn’t stainless as claimed. If you don’t dry the threads or knurled thumbscrews, they WILL rust. Ask me how I know. Great video as always!

    • @nadm
      @nadm  3 года назад +6

      I definitely appreciated the comment. That’s why I wanted you to comment. To share that information with the other people watching. I did get those two squares that you were talking about. There was no information that alluded to using it for what you said. I’ll definitely use them for it. Definitely a beast and impressive. Those bolts are amazing. Just that alone makes the feature incredible. When I was getting the links, I was going back over the prices. If you’re not on the USA site then it’s even more expensive. Like I said, I’m not a fan of the other company. With the saving money and the fact that it fit on everything it just seem like the overall champ. For the amount of extra money it seems like there would be some work you wouldn’t have to do. I, like yourself, and very proud to have the Kasfly. It’s a lot of money for somebody to spend. The other company is ready to go out of the box for $50 less. It was for that reason that I had to give them the right number one spot. You and I will definitely be one of the few people to enjoy the other one. Hell, I’m enjoying all of them. You have to admit, for the money, it would’ve been nice if they would’ve just finish the job for us. Be safe on the road

    • @nadm
      @nadm  3 года назад +2

      By the way, you are correct on the snug fit. All of them fit the sink pretty damn tight. I was very shocked to see how much you could get them to not wiggle. Super nice

      @@nadm Oddly, I was looking for some visual representation of how others used the adhesive rubber just now.
      I've owned the Kasfly for some years as well (I added some little rubber feet of my own) and stumbled across the square rubber pads again. On the page of the store I purchased it from (who apparently knows the bloke who makes the Kasfly bridge) it says the rubber squares are for protecting the stone yet I keep looking at it and thinking if I placed it on the base, it would allow grit to become trapped due to the channels machined into the surface of the stone holding parts.
      What did you guys end up doing with the rubber sheets, if anything?
      I've added them to the underside to protect the sink, other than that, nothing for me. Did you ever damage a stone by not using the rubber?

    Looking forward to the stone holder follow up, the generic vs Naniwa is really what brought me here.
    I don't see the purpose of a bridge that needs a stone holder. At that point I can just cut a board that fits across my sink, soak it in a drying oil or even just white mineral oil, add a couple legs spaced to keep it from shifting in my sink and put a stone holder on top; like $5 plus the holder.
    Could even get a bit fancy and cut a bolt slot like the Kramer but use it to move the legs only, there would be more overhang with small sinks but hey $5 make 3 of them.

The Tojiro is mostly metal but I do believe it has rubber paint underneath to help stop that but that one would be the one I'm most concerned with and the Naniwa has a silicone coating where it makes contact but the rest of it is metal. @@nadm since I don't have youtube full paid subscription . I was watching your video which I really enjoying and every couple of minutes it will go to commercial/ad break. I feel what happen to add at the start only. I this a trend now with ad constant along the time line of video. Who doesn't love listening to a clip a KFC ad comes on everything couple of minutes .

      @@tonidimoski5085 yes, so when you become monetized, a lot of it has to do with RUclips. I can try to control where the little video is. I have spent $15,000 or more to fund this channel. We just got monetize the other day. For this next month I will probably make $100. I didn't have to minus the $1500 that I spent. I definitely don't want to kill people with commercials, but I'm gonna have to have some. The one at the beginning in the one at the end are always provided by RUclips. I have tried to make it so that you do see one in the first five minutes to help me. After that, I really try to spread them out. If you see how many that RUclips wants to put on there than you would really die. I'm not greedy but I do have to figure out a way how to pay to keep doing this. It will be a couple of years before we actually make a dollar on this. We're in it for the long-haul and we're learning along the way. I have several trips that I have to take to bring you guys some great information. Going out to Oregon at some point because Carter cutlery told me to come out and film. That's a big trip. I do appreciate your support. I'll always keep those things in mind. I also will always love and except all criticism. You're trying to make me better. God bless you and I'm thankful for that.

    He put a lot of work into this video! Thirty three minutes could be reduced to a chart. Not all sinks are the same size. A chart could be understood in seconds, not thirty minutes.

      You are very fortunate that you don't have to watch one of my videos. Some people need explanations. Some people want to hear personal experiences. Not all videos are made for all people. We do our best to shoot a video and give the most information for those who are seeking it. If you see the amount of questions, I have to answer than you realize why it took so long to answer yours.
