In this week’s video, I’ll show you how to make a sharpening station with a water pond out of Cedar. Using dowel joinery to make the box and a plastic bin from IKEA, I build a beautiful but simple solution that will fit into any home workshop or kitchen.

Exactly what I was looking for. Simple and effective.
Hi there, I've been looking all over the web for a sharpening station tutorial and .... OH BOY your video is by far the best thing on the net. Simple, elegant , noob friendly and efficient. Thank you for sharing that !!! Cant wait to try to build it myself
As always, Simple, but Very Clever designed. Thanks.
You can't go wrong with the Japanese stones, especially the KING brand. I've come up with some ideas for a sharpening station, but it never occurred to me to build a wood box around a container. Looks nice too.
Beautiful! I built mine around the same Ikea container but used pine that I had lying around the shop for the carcass and red cedar deck planking for the stone holders.
The best station I've seen yet. WELL DONE!
Inspired to craft my own now.
Thanks @Melinda Johnson! It is a fun project to make and super useful. Enjoy making yours 🙂
I’ve always wanted to try out wet stones. Might have to do just that! Thanks for the video.
@LastingBuild Thanks! It's the best way to sharpen knives, chisels and plane irons. I will be putting out a sharpening video next, so you'll see how I use this station. Cheers 🙂
Perfectly and beautifzl done! Thanks for sharing!!!
Great video, Eric. Your videos are some of the best on RUclips, well produced and edited. I look forward to a video where you use the sharpening station.
Thanks David! I will probably put out a sharpening tutorial at some point soon! Cheers 🙂
Nice. You've inspired me to make something similar.
Great and very simple design. Thanks for sharing
Looks great
Great idea Thanks
Fantastic job Eric! Looks great & I'm sure will be extremely functional as well.............. :)
Thanks Steve! Yes, it works great and contains the mess. Does a good job of storing the whole kit too when I'm done 🙂
Nice.
I like the video , but can you show a link were to purchase the little hand saw you used . thanks
Nice especially the fit of the holders! How would oak instead of cedar work as materal, too much movement?
@Mrc Mountain Thanks! I'm sure you could use white Oak instead. I chose cedar because it holds up well against moisture. You could really use any solid wood though, since the pond itself is a plastic bin.
Looks awesome! I need some stones now. Where did you buy yours?
Thanks! I bought mine on Amazon. Just do a search for "whet stones" and a bunch will come up.
what were those two little bits of wood you had in the container?
@Everfalling Those are shims for mounting the whetstones into the holders.
