Being there in person, not gonna lie I thought it was gonna be harder to choose who took the W but Southern was on their A-Game with every selection. Not to say JSU didn’t have good moments but overall definitely would have to give it to SU. I don’t know the whole rule about having to leave but I wish it would have went longer since JSU played about 3 songs as SU packed up.

it's something about JSU songs, i just can't get a feel or a vibe from them almost like there's no rhythm to them. most of them. like with Southern, even if you don't know what song it is,, there's still a certain rhythm and vibe to them, but with a lot of JSu's song's it's not really there.
That second selection by the Sonic Boom drove home Mike Tyson's famous quote "Everybody has a plan until you get punched in the face!" Lol. Good battle between two undefeated programs but Jackson does honestly does take the L on this one. It wasn't a KO but no one expected it to be one. Congrats to both on being the elite of the SWAC
SU and those arrangements on top of great song selection is a beast. There a solid wall of talent over there, damn. Jsu is good too but just some stiff is just not gonna make a great song for marching band.
Simmons is a monster arranger. At the same time...nearly EVERY one of these other HBCU bands have mediocre arrangers at best. I would love to see how the HBCU band world would be if these schools would stop hiring these arrangers who shouldn't be writing for college bands. I'm sure the guys at Southern would appreciate seeing everyone else step their game up as well.
Saile Retsim it's a WHOLE BEAST that comes out of you, ESPECIALLY when you've been at the school you dreamed about as a kid, eventually going there and marching in the PROGRAM and then as an adult, you get to WORK for the same SCHOOL and PROGRAM. In my opinion Mr. Simmons & Mr. Taylor step out of the shadow of Mr. Haymer and officially let everyone know SU will be alright with them running the show. I say that because, let's just think what type of pressure they had to be under coming into this game. So, this was it, time to see if the young directors could step up to the pressure of all the noise others were making and show J-SU to stay in their place,or it was I, plus alot more that were the real delusional ones about SU. My hats off to those two gentleman, they didn't blink twice at this challenge and showed everyone that SU still is King Kong and ain't neva backing away from da smoke and anybody can get it. I knew they meant business when Simmons rolled off Undecided zero quarter like🖕🏿announcer. I dont think so.. The level of excitement nostalgia folks felt about the JukeBox isn't the same. IDK how but Mr. Haymer made folks fall in with the whole school not just the band.. some how even enemies became fans. Nowadays JukeBox alumi still captivated but the rest of us not so much.. You can tell by the number of views the videos get compared to the views from Mr. Haymer's time.. Our heart's still broke and we dont feel the same.. but we like our band still
@@Exceptional555 DOC made me fall in love with JUKEBOX not Mr haymer tbt SU sound more polish and clean with a crispers sound under MR Taylor and remember SU made mr haymer he didn't make SU yes he was a good band director but he also had the best assistance band directors behind him not to mention the best arranger Mr BS Mr Taylor also wrote some good song when Mr haymer was their so without these directors Mr haymer wouldn't be able to accomplish the success of SU band and let's not forget Mr Jackson was before haymer Mr Taylor BS and the rest of SU directors done a good job I can't wait to see what these wonderful directors got in store for us SU fans and also SU moved on maybe you should do the same it took me awhile but when and once I seen JUKEBOX in 2018 under Mr Taylor I said their in good hands don't get me wrong I loved Mr haymer and what he did for SU but those allegations against him not only hurt him but his students ass well that whole situation was heart breaking to hear your head band director is accused of stealing from you and the program I don't know if that's true are not but in all honesty can we forget about that every time Mr haymer name is mention now I do wish him nothing but the best and success in his life
Haymer’s timing and song selection was impeccable man. He knew exactly what to play and “when” to play it. Not to mention he brought the dawg out of all sections. Taylor is cool but he lacks the aggression of a doc, knighten, mr j or haymer so in turn the band sounds pretty stale under him. Clean, but yet stale. Simmons marched in 11’ when it was nothing but beasts, so he’s cut from that special cloth & can return the “S” to the golden years. But only if he’s head director. The kids seem to sound more aggressive with him which is what the “s” is known for. And honestly the new arrangers (Todd etc.) need to step their pen game up. But all and all it’s up to the band members to deliver the sound/power.
I haven't seen jackson state get murdered like this by southern since 2016 ... lions and bears...that was suicide. I would have gave it a tie for the year because of BOTB but you cant get humiliated like this if you wanna comparison

Simmons is a monster arranger. At the same time...nearly EVERY one of these other HBCU bands have mediocre arrangers at best. I would love to see how the HBCU band world would be if these schools would stop hiring these arrangers who shouldn't be writing for college bands. I'm sure the guys at Southern would appreciate seeing everyone else step their game up as well.

In my opinion Mr. Simmons & Mr. Taylor step out of the shadow of Mr. Haymer and officially let everyone know SU will be alright with them running the show. I say that because, let's just think what type of pressure they had to be under coming into this game. Now don't get me wrong they neva stop carrying themselves as a whole, the band to beat but other bands and their fans been getting besides themselves(deservedly so)seeing as if SU wasn't da beast of old and da #1 culprit leading da charge was across da field and it could've been a new superpower leading the 🌍(drama😁), plus it was set perfectly for j-SU, who been bucking this whole year(rightfully so) that they are da band at the top. Then crankfest just took the cake as the perfect example of delusional fan base in my opinion. They were saying its boomfest, they came saw and conquered at the fest, got in SU azz that bad had to change the name😐dam!!! To be quite honest I'm still wondering where's this boomfest video🤷🏾♂️ because I saw a Southern University that was looking to step to whoever stepped up at the time and clearly didn't feel j-SU earned or was worth 100% of their attention(moving like DA 🦁)but some saw an interpreted something different and woke Godzilla up with all da bullshit started being said. So, this was it, time to see if the young directors could step up to the pressure of all the noise others were making and show J-SU to stay in their place,or it was I, plus alot more that were the real delusional ones about SU. My hats off to those two gentleman, they didn't blink twice at this challenge and showed everyone that SU still is King Kong and ain't neva backing away from da smoke and anybody can get it. I knew they meant business when Simmons rolled off Undecided zero quarter like🖕🏿announcer. In the 5th they didn't let off their neck, it was crunch time and j-SU was daze from the the 1st hit and couldn't recover just a total beat down SU gave them boyz no doubt point blank period. @work on a Sunday morning,I was bored I already know this shit was one or two words too long but SU reign at the top has been longer. 🤔

I dont think so.. The level of excitement nostalgia folks felt about the JukeBox isn't the same. IDK how but Mr. Haymer made folks fall in with the whole school not just the band.. some how even enemies became fans. Nowadays JukeBox alumi still captivated but the rest of us not so much.. You can tell by the number of views the videos get compared to the views from Mr. Haymer's time..

@@Exceptional555 DOC made me fall in love with JUKEBOX not Mr haymer tbt SU sound more polish and clean with a crispers sound under MR Taylor and remember SU made mr haymer he didn't make SU yes he was a good band director but he also had the best assistance band directors behind him not to mention the best arranger Mr BS Mr Taylor also wrote some good song when Mr haymer was their so without these directors Mr haymer wouldn't be able to accomplish the success of SU band and let's not forget Mr Jackson was before haymer Mr Taylor BS and the rest of SU directors done a good job I can't wait to see what these wonderful directors got in store for us SU fans and also SU moved on maybe you should do the same it took me awhile but when and once I seen JUKEBOX in 2018 under Mr Taylor I said their in good hands don't get me wrong I loved Mr haymer and what he did for SU but those allegations against him not only hurt him but his students ass well that whole situation was heart breaking to hear your head band director is accused of stealing from you and the program I don't know if that's true are not but in all honesty can we forget about that every time Mr haymer name is mention now I do wish him nothing but the best and success in his life
Haymer’s timing and song selection was impeccable man. He knew exactly what to play and “when” to play it. Not to mention he brought the dawg out of all sections. Taylor is cool but he lacks the aggression of a doc, knighten, mr j or haymer so in turn the band sounds pretty stale under him. Clean, but yet stale. Simmons marched in 11’ when it was nothing but beasts, so he’s cut from that special cloth & can return the “S” to the golden years. But only if he’s head director. The kids seem to sound more aggressive with him which is what the “s” is known for. And honestly the new arrangers (Todd etc.) need to step their pen game up. But all and all it’s up to the band members to deliver the sound/power.
