The reason I gave it a thumbs down was that the write speed on those SD cards (90mb) is crap. I did mention this soon after the video came out but they still kept recommending them. And more importantly for them, making money from them.
Just saying thank you for this video and your books. You're my go-to guy for all the little and big photography questions that arise and I really appreciate your work. Thanks!
I went through you tips & tricks for the Sony A72 R years ago. Today I am going through your A7R 4 tips & tricks! You and Chelsea are amazing -- thank you for what you do! I have bought your books and t-shirts and will contiue to do so. It's the least I can do for all you have taught me throughout the years!
Of all the resources that explain the A7R4, this video is the most helpful I have found (and I've researched a bunch!). Thank you, Tony, for taking the time to put this professional review out.
Kudos to you. I’m a seasoned photographer but learning the Sony menu system would have taken an inordinately long time given I’m new to it. You’re video helped a great deal. Thanks!
Thank you for this tutorial.. Just bought my A7RIV coming from an A7II and its a bit overwhelming esp. with the functions. And this video of yours helped a lot..
❤ Tony you don’t know how valuable this is for someone just coming to the system. I am just getting my Sony a 7R5 coming from m4/3! So even though it’s not exactly the same your work is invaluable to us!!!
Excellent tutorial - Really! Thank you. I just got my Mark IV and went through the whole video at 1.5x and your tips helped me set it up just right! Thank you again
Great tutorial. I got mine used in excellent condition a couple of months ago. This is my first Sony and a big step up in capability. I really appreciate the advice about using continuous autofocus / touch tracking. It will make a big difference to my us elf the camera.
Got these camera after A7R III. Huge improvement in terms of autofocus and body. Enjoying it a lot. Fantastic image results as well. Thanks for a video!
Tony i have to say ,i have watched every setup video for the sony a7r4. Your is the most complete ,the easiest to follow and is what i am going to use . Thank you so much
Tony - Just got my new Sony - Thanks for all the detailed information very helpful. Just started using back button focus. OMG how did I live without it for all these years.
I rarely leave comments, but this has to be one of the most useful videos I've watched on Sony Cameras and I've been shooting Sony for 2 years. Thanks so much for taking the time to make it
Thanks Tony. It is difficult to understand the complexity of so many options. Thanks to you I have acquired the essentials. I'm going for a walk around the store. You deserve it widely.
Wow, Tony! New to the A7r IVa. What a complete "picture" of how to use this machine. Your explanations are extraordinary and so very helpful in getting to know my way around. Been a Leica shooter forever. Eyesight changes forced this change. Remarkable camera...thanks for getting me onboard!!
Thank you! Looking forward to my A7riv as soon as B&H ships it. I've been shooting for 13 years on various Canon DSLR's and I'm stoked to be jumping into a different and modern realm of photography. I appreciate the info and time you put in to this in depth camera tutorial. Thank you!
hallamphoto ordered mine August 1. Why did I get myself so worked up about that announced shipping date? Now I am as sad as a kid whose ice cream fell off his cone, lol!
Great tutorial thanks. The PC Port is actually useful for doing time-lapse work. The Sony built in intervalometer function works well and the output from the PC sync can be used to trigger a controller for doing shoot-move-shoot using a camera slider.
Great job! Been a pro for 38 years, and digital photographer since it started, almost day 1 with 1.4 megapixel camera. Been a canon shooter from the beginning. This a7R4 gives me a headache. The way you explain it makes it now so easy to understand. Not so overwhelming! Thank you! You should do this for a living. ;-)
A friend of mine decided to become a wedding photographer and bought a high-end DSLR. He was intimidated by the (then) printed manual. He asked, "How am I going to learn all this?" I responded, "You're not. When you need to do something you don't know how to do, look it up. You will have learned something. Over time, you'll learn everything YOU need to know to run the camera. 80% of the manual will remain unread."
Thank you, Tony for such a brilliant detailed tutorial. I feel more confident now with all of my notes by my side and inspired to get back out and getting shooting with my new settings.
@Steve Kurtz Jr.... You're clearly not the only one that feels that way sir! I'm team Canon all the way, but I'm sure I can still learn a thing or two by watching Mr. Northrup talk about this Sony.
Hi, no you are not. I have watched almost all videos from Tony and Chelsea and bought their books because they are incredibly good at explaining things. I am surely not buying the A 7R iV but I still watched the video. I keep on learning things which I can use for my Sony camera. Hopefully the Sony A 9 II will come out soon. I am so excited to get it.
This saved me. I am a nikon user and just got my new A7R4 and I was like totally lost until I found this video. The back button focus and eye-af settings were mind blowing to me!
Tony, thank you, this save me a ton of time. One thing I think you might want to update, if you want to shoot RAW to one card and JPEG to another, you have to have to change your "File Format" to "RAW & JPEG", otherwise it will just record one of the types.
Just traded my 5D Mark III DSLR for the Sony A7R IV today. Absolutely loving it so far. Only have a 28-75mm 2.8 at the moment. Looking to go big next with the sony 50mm 1.2. This video is definitely helping me learn this new system.
Another brilliant tutorial. Thanks, Tony! I found Imaging Edge to be a bit better than it seems in the video. In synching with the smartphone, I set up the camera setting, then click connection, and it brings up the QR Code on the camera monitor. Then I start the Imaging Edge App on the smartphone, and then click on "scan QR code" in the App. The smartphone camera switches on within the App and I scan the QR code - a few seconds and the connection is all good - easy! I think the Remote app is very good - I don't need a wireless remote for group shots including me. I agree View and Edit are more clumsy. Overall I would rate it as a very good wireless remote control for the A7R4. Thanks again for the great tips - I have followed or adapted them for my shooting style. They really helped me to get a good way up the learning curve of the Sony menu system. Off to your site now to get more of your books.
Thank you for your help walking through the menu I used Nikon for many years and switch to the Sony but thank you your course is great I’m buying your books I appreciate your positive energy thank you for your help
Thank you for a great tutorial! In particular, knowing that the AF Illuminator is on by default and showing how to turn it off was very beneficial. I would have been extremely embarrassed shooting my first concert with this camera.
So, I have the Sony A7R IV and the II. I've been getting more into photography but certainly not a real 'pro' (though paid many times to do photography work, some video work as well). Getting the upgraded system from the A7R II to the IV was a bit of a shell shock with how many more settings and wanted to check out some tips/tricks that others found useful... After watching a handful of videos, this one is honestly worth it though some of it I already knew - Some helped me think things through differently (yay for Video vs Photo having different settings as well, though they blend in some odd ways on the menus too...). Thanks! This is a great item and I will check out multiple of your plugs :)
This is the first place I go when I get a new camera. Well, I couldn’t help but open the box first and pick up the beast, but after that it’s Tony time... thanks as always, man!
Great video Tony. I am not sure if this was already posted, but it is very easy to transfer photos via Wifi. It states to use the Imaging Edge Mobile app, which you connect to the camera via QR code option. Works every time.
An my a7iii I can double tap the screen to zoom in when reviewing my photos. You don't need to press the magnification button. At least on the a7iii. Thanks Tony. Your the best.
Just bought an A7RIV & trust me when I say this , the review was super helpful. I don't understand why someone would dislike this. Thanks tony !
The reason I gave it a thumbs down was that the write speed on those SD cards (90mb) is crap. I did mention this soon after the video came out but they still kept recommending them. And more importantly for them, making money from them.
Down votes are from jealous Fuji fanboys I think.
Just came here to say the same. This comprehensive guide has been very useful for setting up my new A7R. Thanks! I'll visit your bookstore.
Are you happy with the noise level?
@@grrrrrgh .,,ㅅ,,,,,,,,,,
Best tutorial on the web for perhaps the best Full Frame camera on the market for quite some time moving forward.
This was amazing. I never knew how much I did not know. It took me 8 hours to go through your 75 minute presentation. Thank you so much.
Great Tutorial! Very concise and covers a huge amount of topics with little wasted time. I wish all tutorials were this good
OMG, what a resource this video is. As soon as I have my hands on the A7R4, I'll be watching this AGAIN AND AGAIN!
Just saying thank you for this video and your books. You're my go-to guy for all the little and big photography questions that arise and I really appreciate your work. Thanks!

Of all the resources that explain the A7R4, this video is the most helpful I have found (and I've researched a bunch!). Thank you, Tony, for taking the time to put this professional review out.
Best video to quickly experience the features of this camera - thank you Tony

Thank you so much for the awesome tutorial, much appreciated for all the time and effort you and your team put in the tutorial.
Just got my hands on the a7r4 since it was $2500 on Black Friday. This really helped me out with setting the camera up! Thanks a lot.
Thanks so much Tony! I watched this twice when deciding to jump into the iv and just sat down with it in front of my while watching it again.
Kudos to you. I’m a seasoned photographer but learning the Sony menu system would have taken an inordinately long time given I’m new to it. You’re video helped a great deal. Thanks!

This was SO good! Thank you, Tony!!! I recently upgraded to the A7r4 from the A7r2 and this was really helpful.
Finally Saw it all again after 15 months, one stop for all setting queries. LOVE it thanks Tony. 👌

Thanks Tony! Just got a A7R4, your tutorial is really helpful! I used your excellent tutorial for my Samsung NX1 as well. You are the man!
Glad to help!
I have used your guides whenever I get a new Sony camera. The most comprehensive camera guides I have seen on RUclips.
Thank you! You do such a great job with these videos! What a life-saver this was! What a complicated camera!
Tony is doing Gods work with this video. Great job figuring out the Sony Menu mess
Mine's coming friday. Thanks in advance for all these tips! Never thought about sensor cleaning before.
Thanks man! This is my second time learning how to use a pro body from one of your tutorials.

Thought they would ship by this weekend, but at least not to me, lol! At least I can live vicariously through this video till mine arrives *sigh*
@@chopster01 Same here... Ordered mine August 12th. Thought they were shipping Sept. 12th... Not mine I guess.
hallamphoto ordered mine August 1. Why did I get myself so worked up about that announced shipping date? Now I am as sad as a kid whose ice cream fell off his cone, lol!
How is the journey? Still using the A7RIV?
Outstanding information! I just picked up this camera yesterday, definitely need this! Thanks so Tony! Awesome videos!
The best 1 hour I have ever spent. Thank you so much
Thank you so much for this informative and comprehensive review on the Sony A7r4. It is immensely helpful! Awesome!
Thank you Tony and Chelsea..I appreciate your great reviews, insights and communication skills.

As always great video! I’m new to the Sony ecosystem so much appreciated Tony!
Just ordered this bad boy. Thanks for making Tony. Very helpful 🙂
Tony thanks so much for this video. I was afraid of jumping from my Canon 5dmk4 mostly for the menus but this makes it all so much simpler...
I love Sony A7R iv .. and your tips and tricks are very helpful thanks
Thanks, Tony great work. Just received my Sonya7iv in the mail last night and went to you first.

Just got my A7RIVa a month ago and this tutorial should come with the camera! Great work, thank you Tony!
Am I the only one that listens to these tutorials because Tony is great at explaining things? I don't even have this camera
I don’t have the camera either
@Steve Kurtz Jr.... You're clearly not the only one that feels that way sir! I'm team Canon all the way, but I'm sure I can still learn a thing or two by watching Mr. Northrup talk about this Sony.
I watch them to get a feel for what the camera can do and how it differs from the earlier version.

Loved the tutorial! However, I missed how you customized the C1 button.
Just have to say a Big Thank You.
Will be ordering your book. Least I could do. Thanks You again
Good work Tony, when's the full review coming?
If there’s a more in-depth guide to this camera I haven’t found it.. 👏 excellent Tony.
An my a7iii I can double tap the screen to zoom in when reviewing my photos. You don't need to press the magnification button. At least on the a7iii.
Thanks Tony.
