  • Update: Since 2018 the molds have been updated multiple times. To see more recent versions please visit our shop: www.etsy.com/shop/iBookBindin...
This project began a year ago, but I finally found an opportunity to finalize it only recently.

3d-printing allows you to place almost any images and texts onto the surface of the papermaking mold. Thus creating watermarks on the paper.

Very exciting! I will check out the further details link. I own several dozen moulds and deckles and love the idea of many moulds with watermarks. I'm a poet, too and would love to easily watermark paper with a poem. My library has a 3d printer -- I wonder if this is something I could have done on their printer? How long did it take? O! Your video was shared on the Hand Papermaking group on FB - I'm sure you'll hear from others. Thank you for this exploration and for sharing your fine results!

This is so awesome, Stepan! While I do a lot of papermaking, I have yet to try watermarks. Would it be possible to 3D print a solid version of your mould and deckle but with the watermark facing outward? Then 3D print a fitted deckle that would sit atop and around this creating a lip to capture pulp. This would get rid of the sponging step and make couching so much faster!

The first thing I would say is: "Sure! It is possible!"
But then I would ask you to give some more details, and maybe even photos or pictures of the thing because I didn't really understand how it should work. As I mentioned in the video, that was my first time trying to make paper =)
Am I right that you are talking about printing mould and deckle from my video in one piece? Sort of like these two: 0:55, but with the watermark facing outside?
But how the fitted deckle should be designed -- that I don't understand completely... =(

How did you determine/design the mesh size so that it could capture the paper but let the water through?

Through experimentation and following the dimensions of some old traditional papermaking molds.
The meshes can be really fine.
