I sure wish it was looking like this again. Came to Hawaii in 1961 and been here since. I feel it was a much nicer place and affordable and less crime. This is the Hawaii I remember and growing up as a young teenager was a great experience at this time in Hawaii.

@@US_ARMY_25_INF._DIV. I was just a kid and my parents moved here to Hawaii from California. I guess we had the time before all of this inflation to settle down here in Hawaii before things got too expensive.

I came to Honolulu in 1984 as a teenager.....I loved Ala Moana back then.....still had mom and pop stores there.....there was an old and pretty big five and dime store there that had dusty shelves etc......miss the more simple times and not the fancy stores that charge $10,000 per square foot to rent...

This footage brings back many memories. I was a sophomore at Kaimuki High School at that time.

crazy seeing the view facing west from that Ilikai elevator. The Kakaako skyline has compeletely transformed in the last 50 years. Only thing that hasn’t changed, when it rains plenty, some streets still turn into lagoons.

I was born and raised in Honolulu. To see what Hawaii looked liked 8 years before I was born is amazing!

Thank you. Am a 1949er from lower Manoa, Never went to Kaliponi until 1967. Remember having "Hapy Fizzies Party" at LA Ronde after it opened. Ever wonder how you can spend an hour drinking water w Fizzies and nibbling 2 affordable plates of pupus just to make a 360• turn ?

My step dad used to work at McInerny / Liberty House as a tailor, and he use to tailor for Jack Lord. My little brother fell in that koi fish pond at Ala Moana. 🤭

A little after my time. I left Hawaii in 1953, but I remember the Ala Moana Shopping Mall on my visits. I remember Waikiki with only the Moana, Ilikai and Royal Hawaiian in it.
