- Switching to a suspension electric unicycle (EUC) gave me a smooth ride, but it robbed me of the raw, thrilling connection I craved. Here’s my experience returning to a non-suspension EUC and rediscovering the thrill.

Street rider since 2019 and have purposely avoided suspension for that exact reason 👍🏼
@@paulwheelin noooice. Ma man
Your poor knees.
Of course, there are different defintions of "fun".
When riding the non-suspension wheel, my focus is entirely on the road surface because any bumps and holes will throw me off the wheel.
But when riding a suspension wheel, I can take in the scenery, road signs, people, and everything else around me because the suspension takes care of the road for me. Also, I can go faster on a suspension wheel! It's just more pragmatic because I'm a daily commuter.
As with most things, nostalgia feels good because it reminds us of our innocence. I remember swimming in the lake and climbing trees too, but I also conveniently forgot how I almost drowned and broke my collar bone stepping on a broken branch. Lol. I still take my non-suspension wheel out for a ride around the neighbourhood, but never on roads. It's like falling in love all over again... :)
I had the complete opposite feel. I feel glued to the road on a suspension more than non suspension wheel.
Excellent video, Jed! You are so eloquent in describing the massive difference between suspension and non-suspension wheels. The feedback effect with suspension wheels is definitely lessened hence our muscle response is not as well optimized. Over time we just don’t get as much of a workout. We are using different set of muscles as well as using them less intensely too. Riding the non-suspension wheel is a more thorough workout indeed. It is definitely a wake up call to our dormant sets of muscles that have gotten used to suspension wheel riding.
As for wobble control with the non-suspension wheel, it is definitely easier to prevent and tame since the feedback from the wheel is more heightened hence we can prevent the wobbles earlier before it gets out of control.
However, as an older rider soon approaching the 60 mark 😮 🤦🏻♂️, the suspension wheel gives my aging knees a break. The chronic pain of injuries to my knees of my youth have caught up to me already. The suspension wheel allows me to experience the thrills of EUC riding with less pain hence more enjoyable.
EUC is the life! 🥳
I just bought a commander mini, but I still have my trusty never fail King Song 16x. Just for kicking around on. I love it!
The basic question is "The Ride vs Transportation." If you are having "Fun," then non-suspension has it. However, if you are after extreme jumps, then its back to suspension. If you are running errands, then the suspension wheel is definitely easier on the body. Non suspension wheels are lighter and more nimble. Going to the dentist and need to park your car 5 blocks away in a public lot? Probably take the non suspension wheel with you. The suspension adds weight, so everything else being equal, a non suspension wheel can have more battery for the same weight and similar handling. Thus, for long trips, a suspension wheel will need charging sooner. Being able to make a round trip without a mid course 3 hour recharge and hauling the charger around is a consideration. A lot depends on where you will be and the frequency of needing that range. Need to take the car in for service? Take the wheel with you and you don't have to stay in the waiting room.
@@OldSloGuy ill never understand the “jumping” aspect of uni riding. we got a total of maybeee 2-3 dozen riders actually getting SOME air of jumps. and im not talking 2-4 feet from the jump. point is, its sooo much risk and such a abnormal launch and abnormal transition, u might as well get the real thing and get REAL air. dirtbikes. or even mountain bikes. two wheels going up, then diving down with PROPER landing, vs a chunky one heavy wheel between ur crotch while u clench ur butt and hold it all together isnt really that rewarding. idk, as a dirtbike rider, skater and a uni rider, thats what i think
iv BEEN sayin this with esk8. lots of eboard riders are obsessed with riding ONLY pnuamtic tires instead of traditional street wheels. “comfort” shouldnt be the FIRST attribute we look for in riding. we want CONTROL, we want to be IN TUNE. like u said, raw and exhilarating… we are getting wayyyyy too soft when it comes to RIDING. time to go back to the basics and RIP IT.
This cracks me up. I just got a master and have like 100 miles on it; now I wanna go back and get on the Nik+ again, lol.
Which Master ??
@@brianmccann666 v4
Uuuurghhh... Nikola👎. Bro maybe you need to see a doctor to sort your illness 😅 bantz master is far better wheel and a pleasure to ride than a nikola17in dustbin lid😅😂
I definitely see where your coming from, after riding my master i get kind of lazy. Getting back on the 16X is always a blast, it's so connected an zippy.
I still have my 16X! He's my trusty travel companion
From now on, since your video, I think I will feel very differently the wobbles: from a scandalous, fearful phenomenon to a fun behaviour of EUC, as well as a wake-up call for more serious training 😉🙏
Most definitely. Glad you liked it
Good comment! What a great way to communicate the idea
The only crash, I've ever had, was on a non-suspension wheel without pads to lock my feel in. Fixed that issue with some Clark pads shortly after. Another 2 years and I moved to a suspension wheel. I still ride my old wheel, but not very often. I would not consider another wheel without suspension, at this point.
The EUC manufacturers should make a high performance, lightweight, well constructed to modern standards wheels with powerful motors, 50s batteries and smart bms. That would be a true sports car exhilarating experience.
Look at this guy.. having fun 'n all :D
Good rides man!
Imma try and stiffen my V14's suspension! It is at its softest currently.
Love your energy bro! Keep it uuuuup!
They just need to upgrade the non suspension market! Update and re-release older models. 50S batts, weather-proof, safety margins, updated software, and BMS capable of super fast charging!!! Oh and keep them sub $3k for the love of 💰!
exn hs with more torque and voltage that would be a winner
never stopped using my non-suspension wheel, but i see other friends using it. Finally the tire is "my suspension". For me it is hard to move forward to suspension wheel, the others are so much convenient in urban area like paris, tiny roads, pedestrian areas, cyclist lane. And i see friends so much reluctant to have some fun with their georgous wheel. I definitly do understand your point of view. Also it makes far more sense hearing it from you, since you tried both.
Always love hearing your deep insights from your experience as a rider. I upgraded to a suspension wheel last year and was thinking of selling my first non suspension wheel. Now I think I may keep it just for training purposes. Curious to see what you'd think of a stiff suspension on your EX30.
While others are desperate to sell their old wheels at any price, U-Stride is single-handedly holding up the value of legacy wheels. 😅
@grb1969 hahahaha most def 😂. And with you guys watching and showing support, this will also add value to the OGs I think.
I remember wrong way saying he preferred the V13 without suspension
We need a non suspension wheel with the specs of a lynx. I don't see how that wouldn't be the best race wheel for tracks. They're trying to reduce weight with the blitz to make a race wheel, but tracks don't have real bumps. Makes no sense.
Exactly, track race EUCs do not need suspension at all.
But off-road racing suspension would be a problem.
I’ve been saying this and a lot of people tell me there’s not enough demand for such a wheel but judging by the response from this video, and the video itself, there is demand. I basically want a 134 volt rs19 dialed in to go 50mph, tons of torque, and plastic body
@@JoshuaMothis . I want a strong & durable body/Frame. Screws instead of snap points.
Hey Man thanks for the promo, I really appreciate that. You brought up some very interesting point about the muscle loss from riding suspension. You have me wanting to take the suspension out of the v13 just to see how the ride feels. My only hesitation is I'm doing alot of seated riding and that suspension helps a ton. But I always wonder why Inmotion gave the V13 the suspension delete kits. "Did they know something we didn't?" Or is it that the wheel was top heavy. Either way at some point I will test that theory untill then I'm gonna break out the EXN and go for a ride to reacquaint myself with the 1to1 feel. Great video man, Salute!!
@Flip-Uno I actually tried it without suspension, and it looks so much cooler, like a low rider.
suspension has many pros and a few cons. it takes up space, weight, and it takes away responsiveness and challenge. for off road riders and people going 60mph its needed but its way too overused. i’m begging for a non suspension begode bltz or something along those lines with all the new safety features and performance because the closest we’ve gotten to that is a shermax or a v13 non suspension version and that just won’t do
I agree. And have been saying this since the 1st suspension wheel. Unfortunately after an accident, the suspension helps so much. buT the negatives of the suspension wheels is always there. Higher center of gravity, higher pedals. Lack of feeling. ❤
I love it! I'm going to get my v12 hs out!
I think that people overlook the non-suspension wheels. I still think the Sherman MAX and OG offer the greatest distance to weight ratio. I wish the EUC makers would just update or refine the non-suspension wheels. Yes suspension is nice, but they machines are so big nowadays.
suspension only sucks when using for its intended purpose. I ride my suspension super tight with tons of preload, it is pretty much a pre-load jumping tool, which is crazy useful
I have the commander mini and enjoy riding it because of the suspension. When the roads are extremely bad this unicycle just makes sense because of it's zippy small size it's great to ride around the city. When I go back to riding my Sherman Max the feeling of the ride is immediate. It feels like I'm riding a sports car because of the contact with the road and because of its weight and size. Not to mention that this wheel gets more range than just about every new long range unicycle out there including the new Shermanel L. Were taking steps forward but the range is lacking in the Euc world. The Max was perfect minus suspension and gets the same range as the Master Pro with more portability. Id rather go 40kmh for 5 hours straight than 55 miles an hour for 35min.
At AVS 2022 I omitted the suspension from my Master V2. Everyone that test rode it. Loved it. The monster pro was a beautiful wheel without suspension
Bring back the OG!
Nice riding!
Being an older rider, I enjoy the suspension of my KS-S22. The S-18 was my first wheel, as I do recall the option of locking the air shock for a stiffer ride which was OK for smooth roads but not so while riding over grassy land.
Less feed back from the tire. More suspension more comfort but less feelin.
Good shit!!!
I have also enjoyed my t4 with broken suspension and been tearing it up without it. Might not ever go back
@@JaradVonNguyen hahahaha awesome
Suspension is good for people having Knee or Ankle problems. Less wear & Tear on their problem body parts.
If You have no issues YET 😉. Non-suspendion EUCs will help keep you joints mobile as long as you're not doing extreme jumping and falling in your rides. Those stress your joints. Normal riding does not. Plus NS EUCs you use more muscle groups or often, strengthening your legs & hips better.
Agree or disagree ?
I have a Sherman S and a Sherman Max nine times out of 10 I will take the max for a ride because it’s more fun!!
I have an OG S22 with the factory sliders, so I guess it feels like somewhere in between the two at this point lol.
Crouching 🐅🥋‼️
It does depend on how far north you are. With how broken our roads are in canada my knees ache after a 20+km ride due to a lack of suspension(i think, i don't have a suspension wheel to compare to yet). Your road at 12:28 looks to be as bumpy as most of our roads are unless they have been freshly paved.
Yup! No suspension for street and suspension for dirt. Plain and simple.
I pump up my air suspension to high pressure for drops and jumps. Oh, as you call out at 07:38. Considering how shit parts of L.A. roads are, you won't find me hitting 20+ mph without a suspension wheel. With aggressive carving I find my legs getting sore *quickly* on any wheel, suspension or not. And I'm still bracing for and absorbing large bumps or small ramps.
I think you can get a good leg workout with both, just depends what you're doing and how your setup is!
Go off-road with suspension wheel, it will get you the same results as street none suspension wheel.
there is an appeal to little or no suspension. kinda like go karts. never tried a no suspension wheel personally but i think i understand the appeal. personally i think i would rather just run a suspension wheel that is more on the stiff side unless i have the option of having more than one or two wheels.
my legs are already the best suspension on the planet... you just got to pay a bit more attention to your lines. I love non suspension.
Yhat direct feedback is hurting my feet. But I still want some of that feeling of the tire on the road. So maximum stiffness with fast rebound.
I think the Extreme Bull X-Men and Commander are the last non suspension performance wheels.
My non suspension wheels are the Original Sherman and Abrams. I sold my MSP HS and my X-Men HT. I liked these wheels, but they lack range at high speeds.
Good luck with the part time Rider opinion
@cmdeuc part time?
personal opinions in the subject are dominated by the person’s street conditions. I’m in Chicago, with traffic and inconsistent road conditions, suspension was a must. I didn’t want to learn how to ride, watch out for road conditions and sacrifice not being able to enjoy the scenery around me.
Haven't bought a new wheel since my Sherman. I like to ride fast and technical off road, and suspension wheels can't do that. It is fun to jump, but riding sucks. EUC's are dead to me for now.
robot over lords..
Isn't the highest voltage non suspension wheel you can get today is the v13 with a suspension delete? Sounds nice until you hit a pothole at 45 mph
Suspension buy me a few more years of riding. On long rides the next day my back thanks me for using Suspension lol
Right on!
You said it yourself, you can just lock the suspention.
NEWS FLASH There is a lowering suspension delete kit for every euc
how do you not over torque your wheel lol i keep overdoing it with my exn
@frozenwalkway the exn is easy to overtorq. To help with that, tilt the pedals about 2.5 - 3 degrees backward and ride in hard mode
@@UStride 👍what wheel you riding here?
@@frozenwalkway the MSP High Speed
My knees disagree with you.
I don't want every vibration coursing through my body 🤣
After 100 miles ride I'm praying for suspension 😂
Trail riders rejoice!
An ego video. Nothing but.
All those clips of the wheel skipping over the ground. Objectively LESS connected to the road.
But people do what they want. Me, I ride a motorbike for 'thrill' on the road. Off-road on an EUC is where the real fun is.
@InsanitiesBrother agree with the offroading, but I've always loved riding on the road. It's not ego, I don't think. What about the offroading guys who do crazy jumps that I would never attempt? Would that classify as ego? I don't get how you came to that conclusion. Can't it be that I just love to ride on the road?
@@UStride I gave an example.
The bits in your footage where the wheel is skipping on the ground is objectively the wheel being less 'connected' to the road.
Arguably doing jumps is the same overall, but there isn't this 'lie' going on.
People who off-road, me included will talk about getting enjoyment from slight losses of traction, jumping, technical riding etc.
But here you say you like no suspension for a reason that isn't true. So it feels more like a "look how good I am" situation.
If you like being connected to the road then suspension just makes sense.
If you said "I like the sketchiness of being less connected. I like the increased risk of crashing from a wobble. The increased risk is fun" then it would feel more true and I wouldn't take the same issue.
if u like wobbles, ride a lynx lol
you want whell one-ness? and more control? why not go down all the way. 14 inch tires with 2 inch width.
We can agree to disagree bro... Non suspension constant knee impact will leave you in a wheel chair... No need to be the Flintstones. Suspension on 50kg et max is hard work keeps you working and more fun with more rewards
Riding a non-suspension wheel might make you a more skillful rider because you learn to adapt and handle rough terrain. But let's be real: safety and long-term health are just as important. Suspension doesn't just give you comfort-it protects your knees, back, and overall well-being, especially if you're riding in countries where the roads are far from smooth.
Try riding without suspension on bad roads for a while, and you'll feel the impact-literally. The constant shocks can lead to knee strain and back pain, and that's when you'll start wishing you had suspension.
Yes, non-suspension wheels might help with control, but from a practical and health perspective, suspension is essential for safety and long-term comfort. It's not just about skill-it's about being able to enjoy the ride without damaging your body.
@@rocketsnail8338 he rides bad roads all day
Ive got back issues and non suspension doesn't aggravate them. Definitely feel it in the knees after a longer ride even on smoother roads though.
@@VECTOR_Coasters you sir have no idea what bad roads means, come to Greece and I will show you 😁
@@0xsergy I got issues with non suspension wheel on my back and on my knees lol,got tired when I was doing daily almost 50km rides to get to my work. With suspension everything changed.
2 days ago a fellow rider had a non suspension wheel got a small road anomaly and went flying with 50km speed.Suspension could prevent that.
It’s also driving safety.
I like your excitement…
It’s true what you saying …
