Nintendo has slowly given us these games over time. Mother on NES is on NES Online as Earthbound Beginnings. We did eventually get Devil World. There was also a Fire Emblem game on the DS that was a remake of the first game.
Tom Waits is a legend. Blue Valentines is one of my favorite songs ever. And he was awesome as Renfield in Bram Stoker's: Dracula. Great musician, and highly underrated as an actor.
Asobi means lesson. Gaiden means spinoff or side-story. Ginga no Sannin does not have a rom translation but there is a guide online that shows you how to play. The Go game is a variation of Othello where you need to connect 5 in a row ( I believe that is how the title translates).
Minor correction. You are correct in the "connect 5" aspect, but it is not a variation of "Othello". In Othello you place moves in the empty spaces of the squares, but in GoMoku you place moves on the connection points of the lines. Like in the game Go / Baduk / Wéiqí.
It’s been so long, I’d like to see Nintendo resurrect the “Startropics” series. (I say “series,” even though it was only two games, to my knowledge.) Possibly do a third entry.
a lot of those early releases like Mahjong and Gomoku Narabe Renju are really important to the Famicom's history while the kids wanted the system to play arcade like games at home, these traditional games along with the early sports games made the Famicom appeal to parents Baseball, Golf, and Mahjong were the top selling Famicom games in Japan with Golf even outselling Dragon Quest II
That's why they learned their lesson about licensed characters when it became time to do something about Doki Doki Panic. If they didn't put a Mario coat of paint on it for the west, it would have ended up some Japanese only curiosity that never got a re-release.
My Nana had the original Popeye arcade in the basement along with a shuffleboard bowling machine.pinball..pool table. Big TV. Kitchen.. Nana had it poppin I miss her.
We did get the first mother game but they called it earthbound beginnings which is mother 1 on NES but we got it on the Nintendo Wii u over here in the U.S.
The second game you show was released stateside as "Othello", but I think it was published by Acclaim. F1 Race would've made a great Black Label game, but it's kind of bare bones feature-wise, and it's a little too close for comfort at being a Pole Position knock-off. Plays great, though. Fwiw, Fire Emblem on the GBA is actually an updated retelling of the Famicom original, if anyone's interested in delving into the franchise for the first time.
Mecha Joy and Fire Emblem WOULD have been cool to release earlier in the consoles lifespan, along with FamiWars and Mother... but I do wonder if they'd sell back then, or be popular in the spirit of that time.
I remember finding the ROM of the Popeye one ("Popeye's English Play" I think literally) it was neat! I do read hiragana and katakana just fine so it definitely gave me a leg up on knowing what the words are.
i remember thinking Earthbound Zero was some sort of rom hack and not a real game, until i found out about it being the original EB that wasn't released here...then discovering Joy Mecha and having a blast..pretty solid fighter for the NES
d**** world has a fan made black box cover art Even if d**** world was renamed it probably be beyond the scope of playable( Religious grounds, from someone who has a low view of Calvinism) F1 racer has a fan made black box cover art, however it may have a U.S. style cover but it has a EU art style Really trying to get into Indy car racing over NASCAR(I find NASCAR boring should road courses) My brother loves earthbound

"I'm Big in Japan" 🎵
-Tom Waits
Tom Waits is a legend. Blue Valentines is one of my favorite songs ever. And he was awesome as Renfield in Bram Stoker's: Dracula. Great musician, and highly underrated as an actor.
I'm here for Mother! Aka Earthbound Beginnings 7:45
Devil world is pretty fun, it's actually been on switch online for a few months
I enjoy watching videos on Japan exclusive games from the Famicom to PSX. Furthermore, these ranking videos are really fun to watch.
Thanks! They're fun for me to make, too. Even I find stuff I've never heard of or looked at (like that space RPG in this one)
Asobi means lesson.
Gaiden means spinoff or side-story.

Doh, I meant to say variant of Go, thanks!

Too bad the Original Popeye arcade game is nowhere to be found on the Switch..😔wasn't for Popeye, Donkey Kong wouldn't have been created thus Mario...
That's why they learned their lesson about licensed characters when it became time to do something about Doki Doki Panic. If they didn't put a Mario coat of paint on it for the west, it would have ended up some Japanese only curiosity that never got a re-release.
What about the "other" Mario Bros like jump-man and Stanley, or the sport ref⁉️
My Nana had the original Popeye arcade in the basement along with a shuffleboard bowling machine.pinball..pool table. Big TV. Kitchen.. Nana had it poppin I miss her.
true that. Popeye arcade is one of my favorite arcade games.
In a few years, Popeye becomes public domain. Maybe we will get that game.
We did get the first mother game but they called it earthbound beginnings which is mother 1 on NES but we got it on the Nintendo Wii u over here in the U.S.

Go is a different game from Othello. They had the same version as US Othello on the Famicom.
Met this guy at Louisville arcade expo last year, best experience ever
Funny, Gomoku is one of the board games in the "Clubhouse Games" collection on Nintendo Switch.
Holy diver is a great (and tough as hell) famicom exclusive. And I know we got it on GB, but kid Dracula
Isn’t Earthbound Beginnings Mother 1?
Yes
Mecha Joy and Fire Emblem WOULD have been cool to release earlier in the consoles lifespan, along with FamiWars and Mother... but I do wonder if they'd sell back then, or be popular in the spirit of that time.

Where’d you get that shirt, John?
I love it!
I am by no means a fashion expert… but my God that jacket…
Devil World is actually one of my favorite retro games!
i remember thinking Earthbound Zero was some sort of rom hack and not a real game, until i found out about it being the original EB that wasn't released here...then discovering Joy Mecha and having a blast..pretty solid fighter for the NES
Yeah, there are plenty of repros of Earthbound Zero and someone even did an 'anniversary' edition with improved graphics.
How about the Famicom Grand Prix games? The first one was pretty simple, but Grand Prix II: Hot Rally would have rocked! (It still does.)
Ah Mahjong, the reason I will never 100% a Yakuza game
Love the Nintendo game releases part of this series. I look forward to Game Boy DMG and Nintendo 64. If you end up making those videos.
That brown & tan jacket is wicked rad!
doug bowser gives everyone but japan the middle finger during the recent partnr showcase, they released mother 3 japan only on switch.
They released fire emblem for switch for a short time a year or 2 ago I picked it up but haven't played it yet.
Gaiden means side story or tale. like Fire Emblem Gaiden Fire Emblem side story (where as Ninja Gaiden would likley be translated as Ninja Tale)
All "G"s in Japanese are pronounced with a hard sound. "Geen-gah no san-nin".
If you want an old school space rpg, then you should check out the phantasy star series on genesis and master system
someone has not played advanced wars.
I have, just not as long as most.
More games left in Japan
I’m glad I never played those games they look like they suck.
Mother....... OOOOOOooooooaaahhhhhh Wooooooooooo!! As the Wind Blows!
John, these Japanese Nintendo games are sweet!!!!!!!!! You, Jay & the crew doing okay?
chillin'
Sweet! John, I can't ever thank you enough for your timeless video game classics.
Love earthbound...or Mother
Moon Crystal is a fun import game!
Some of the best animation
Looks like you entered your name as あああああ instead of リグズ (Riguzu / Riggs)
Wrong, the first Fire Emblem was released on Switch so America DID get that...
I love mother 1 / 2 / 3
To bad we never got the dragon ball and dragon ball z games on the Nes in English
GIVE US MOTHER 3 NINTENDO!!!!🎉🎉🎉🤬🤬✊🍃🛸🥡🥞
