Original Contra getting a B is a travesty. One of the reasons it was so popular is because it controlled so well. i was happy with your choices until life force i think its the best shooting game on the nes its so great it deserves a playthrough you wont regret it i still liked your video though
The american version of Bayou Billy is a broken game. They changed the difficulty settings resulting on a much harder game (broken in my opinion) compared to the japanese version of the game.
Bayou Billy's combat wasn't that bad once you learned how to constantly hit and move. The strategy made advancing take a long time and I don't fault anyone who disliked it, but it wasn't broken. Funny enough it was a late zapper stage that I could never get past.
Since you mentioned the voice samples, Double Dribble has this patch out that makes the intro about as clean as Nascar. No new samples, just pure bugfixing.
Contra is above S. It's one of the few games I still play regularly. If you want to enjoy it more, I suggest trying to play it without dying. This is much easier than it sounds because it's so balanced. Keep Spread with Rapid. Do NOT use the Konami code. It's much more fun when you're playing at the peak of your perception as opposed to casual play.
I enjoy your vides and you're free to your opinion but come on Riggs. Castlevania, Contra, and Super C are solid S tiers. Do you really believe that Contra is on the same level as The Goonies 2 and Monster in My Pocket? Blasphemy.
Blades of Steel is amazing. Definitely the best hockey game on Nes and in the top 3 of all sports games on Nes. Also, Contra, Lifeforce, Super C and Jackal could be higher.
I have to say this about Goonies 2: it's a game I can beat in 30 minutes or maybe a bit less and one of my favorites growing up (still is). Here's the secret to how to tell which direction you came from in any given room that has different side-scrolling areas (based on either going north or south (north being what you can see and south being what you can't see)). Look at the way Mikey is facing in the lower left of the screen. If he has his face towards you, he came in from the north side. If he's got his back towards you, he came in from the south side. Mikey will stay this way until you leave the room back to the side-scrolling.
They had more under the Ultra label and in Japan only as well, but that's its own thing. Their most popular series there was Ganbare Goemon (Legend of the Mystical Ninja in the West), none of the FC games ever came out in the West officially.
I got my NES in late '94 and didn't own any Konami games. Just a handful of them I've played using emulation. Castlevania 1 and 3 are among my favorites. They have excellent tunes. So does Simon's Quest, but I never played that one. Due to AVGN's feelings about it, I stayed away from it.
Whew!!! Konami was absolutely stacked during the NES era!!!! So many great games - TMNT III - The Manhattan Project, Contra, The Adventures of Bayou Billy, The Goonies II, Gradius, The Castlevania series, Super C, Double Dribble, Blades of Steel, Lifeforce, Tiny Toon Adventures, Monster in my Pocket, etc.
My list (counting Ultra games) 1. TMNT 2 2. TMNT 3 3. Monster In My Pocket 4. Batman Returns 5. Castlevania 3 6. Castlevania 7. Tiny Toon Adventures 8. Jackal 9. Super C 10. Contra
4:03 - Simon's Quest was one of those weird games for me, in that I enjoyed it immensely, but a lot of people vehemently disagree with that and hate the game. I think part of the problem is the fact that some of the townspeople lie. But the thing is, the manual warns you that this will happen (and most of the time, even when they're lying, something in what they're saying is still a hint, except when they're referencing movies).
For me the problem is that you have to equip the right item and kneel in the right spot to progress at a certain point. I wonder if game manufactures got a portion of every call to the Nintendo hotline for their game.
A lot of times my opinion is similar to John’s but I completely disagree with his opinion on Bill Elliott’s NASCAR Challenge. I played the crap out of that game and even ran the entire Daytona 500 once. I would probably give it a B.
You lost me when you hated on Bill Elliots Nascar Challenge which I owned and loved as a kid, then you hated on Blades Of Steel.. We have different taste in video games.. Lol.

He told you why. He obviously doesn’t like it as much as other people do. It’s a C in my opinion but I realize I’m in the minority. I don’t have fun playing it.
Goonies is an “S” for me. Played through it so many times I lost count.
My 8 year old daughter is working through Dracula's Curse and it's been a lot of fun seeing her put the tablet with Roblox down and really get into a great older classic and actually enjoy it to the point of playing to beat it.
S tier for sure!!
Konami, hands down one of the best game developers. I wish other company’s would have taken notes from this guys.
Konami these days is pure trash.
John Riggs: I love this game, very nostalgic for me. S Rank!
Also John Riggs: This game is good. A lot of people love this game and are very nostalgic for it, but I'm not nostalgic for it. D Rank.
No logic what so ever!
What’s your point?? It’s HIS list and how HE feels about the games.
I absolutely love TMNT 3 and Blades of Steel. TMNT 3 is my favorite Konami game that isn't labeled an Ultra game from the company.
i was happy with your choices until life force i think its the best shooting game on the nes its so great it deserves a playthrough you wont regret it i still liked your video though
Contra and Life Force are my top 2 games on the NES, but there also a lot of nostalgia with them. But great games.
I didn't grow up with the NES so I have zero nostalgia. But I can tell you right now Contra is an S. Such a fun game.
Contra is in the 'S' territory if you input the 30 lives code. It's a 'B' if you don't.
Since you mentioned the voice samples, Double Dribble has this patch out that makes the intro about as clean as Nascar. No new samples, just pure bugfixing.
I love the rom patches!!!!! Gradius 3 with the slowdown patched out is amazing.
double dibble
That's Double Dibble. 😁
@@RealAlphaDrum you beat me to it😁
Contra is above S.
HA ! I love that Konami 30 man code... makes it even more fun to me and with a buddy. Good times.
About time somebody says that Simon's Quest is a great game! Love that game
I enjoy your vides and you're free to your opinion but come on Riggs. Castlevania, Contra, and Super C are solid S tiers. Do you really believe that Contra is on the same level as The Goonies 2 and Monster in My Pocket? Blasphemy.
Thanks, John! Looking forward to Sunsoft sometime too...hopefully. ;)
Sunsoft's version of Spy Hunter was vastly superior to the arcade for its incredibly tight controls. Gremlins 2 is also very underrated.
Blades of Steel is amazing. Definitely the best hockey game on Nes and in the top 3 of all sports games on Nes. Also, Contra, Lifeforce, Super C and Jackal could be higher.
It's funny how Capcom is engrained in your brain as you called Konami "Capcom" instead a couple of times 😋 great video
What!? I seriously thought both Capcom and Konami had more, odd, huh??
Konami had way more under the Ultra label.
This list has more games on it than I bought in total for the Super Nintendo. It's pretty big considering how few arcade ports are on it.
They had more under the Ultra label and in Japan only as well, but that's its own thing. Their most popular series there was Ganbare Goemon (Legend of the Mystical Ninja in the West), none of the FC games ever came out in the West officially.
1:20 Batman Begins was on NES? Konami predicted the future.
was just gonna type that lol
Not if Nolan (or someone on the film team) was a fan of the game and suggested the title, heheh.
Goonies II is S-tier forever. Sorry not sorry. ;) One of my favorite games of all time, hands down.
My list (counting Ultra games)
1. TMNT 2
2. TMNT 3
3. Monster In My Pocket
4. Batman Returns
5. Castlevania 3
6. Castlevania
7. Tiny Toon Adventures
8. Jackal
9. Super C
@@jst25 There actually is a clue that tells you to do this.
I'm pretty sure Castlevania and Contra would overwhelmingly be placed in the S tier by most gamers. Likely the same for Super C.
Double Dribble a “D”? Broooooo.
A lot of times my opinion is similar to John’s but I completely disagree with his opinion on Bill Elliott’s NASCAR Challenge. I played the crap out of that game and even ran the entire Daytona 500 once. I would probably give it a B.
TMNT III should be S! It is definitely an S game, great graphics, great gameplay, and challenging too 🙄
I beat Castlevania III with every companion combo back in the day, including not having a companion at all.
Yuh love ya John!
You lost me when you hated on Bill Elliots Nascar Challenge which I owned and loved as a kid, then you hated on Blades Of Steel.. We have different taste in video games.. Lol.
S: Contra, Super C, Castlevania lll, Tmnt lll
A: Castlevania, Jackal, Bucky, Blades Steel
