Hope you guys enjoy the video! Stevie Ray Vaughan is a GUITAR GOD!!!! What should we do next?
Hi Ian - I always like seeing/hearing Stevie do "Mary Had a Little Lamb." The live version from Austin City Limits. That also gives you good evidence that the keyboard player, Reese Wynans, is also an excellent musician. All four are. There are different versions of "Double Trouble," the backing band, and they were all good.
You need to listen to Stevie Ray Vaughn "the sky is crying"
Cold Shot, Pride and Joy. I’d suggest always doing live with Stevie Ray. He has so many great songs. Enjoy this journey! Love your channel! ☮️❤️😎
“Tin Pan Alley” live w/Johnny Copeland. SRV & Johnny were 🔥🔥🔥
One of his best performances was 1985 Capitol Theatre LIFE WITHOUT YOU, which he wrote for his dear friend and guitar repair man, who had just passed named Charlie, Who also made Stevie’s white guitar named Charlie. He gives a passionate speech during this performance, which is so prevalent today. RIP❤️🩹 SRV🎸
Quite possibly the greatest performance in the history of music.
I've loved Stevie for decades and it's a blessing to watch someone else discover him for the first time. I have no idea why anyone would hate on someone discovering Stevie. Those are not true fans IMHO. Keep doin your thing and f**k the haters.
im almost 50 yrs old! I used to have the shred guys in very high esteem!SRV got another feel for the same styles, somehow he got bends that got more feel than George Lynch, Steve Vai and who ever that made the 80s great!
Bad ass blues with a huge dose of SOUL -- RIP SRV
Stevie could not read music. Therefore, every song he played was different every time. He used 13 gauge strings, which made his fingers bleed, and he would 15:54 super glue them back together to finish a concert. Prior to this concert, he was in a cocaine coma, and they had to give him an IV to wake him up to perform and that is why he’s sweating profusely. However, he was sober almost 4 years before his tragic helicopter crash when he was 35. In his 1985 concert at Capitol Theatre when he is performing LIFE WITHOUT YOU for his dear friend, Charlie, his guitar repairman, who built Stevie’s white guitar named Charlie, Stevie makes the most benevolent speech that is still so prevalent today. RIP❤️🩹 SRV🎸
It always amazes me to think about him passed out/OD on cocaine then brought to to walk out on stage playing one of his best concerts ever, never missing a note. There will never be another SRV.
Stevie Ray was 7 when he picked up his first guitar and began plucking away at the strings. His biggest musical influences were blues men 'big brother' Jimmie (an accomplished, professional blues/rock guitarist in his own right), Albert King, Buddy Guy, jazz guitarists Wes Montgomery, Kenny Burrell and rock 'n' rollers Lonnie Mack and Jimi Hendrix. All of whom Stevie respected equally. So when you ask what was SRV's genre or musical style ... imo ... he was half rock 'n' roll, half jazz .. but his heart & soul was 100% committed to the blues throughout his entire life and career.
This brings us to your next question .. During this performance, how much of Stevie's guitar 'riffs' or note playing was already "set in stone" or improvised? #Texas Flood, #Mary Had A Little Lamb, #Voodoo Chile ... songs Stevie Ray covered and became famous for were already written and 'set in stone' by other artists long before anyone knew who Stevie Ray Vaughan was. Stevie never took any formal guitar lessons. He never learned how to read music but was able to teach himself how to play guitar. He would put on the records he had, find the 'note' sounds and practice for hours until he had the song memorized. As for the songs he had written ... #Crossfire, #Life Without You, #Dirty Pool (and others) ... lyrics were penned. However, because he was unable to read music, I can only imagine that he had probably hummed and/or played their melodies on guitar for Chris (his drummer) and Tommy (his bassist) to learn. During LIVE performances tho .. NO song of his or another artist was EVER played the same exact way twice. So one can say that all of his 'LIVE' guitar work was improvised.
SRV is the legend of Texas Blues. I had the opportunity to meet him on a couple times and attened several of his concerts. One of the nicest guys you could ever meet. Eric Clapton once said that Stevie is the only one that could make him hang up his guitar for good. Lol, great reaction. If the haters are coming out, then you know you are doing something right . Much ❤️
If you watched 10 live videos of this song every one of the guitar solos will be different 'cause when Stevie Ray is in the zone he just pours his soul into that guitar!💯🤗 TEXAS 🇨🇱 blues at it's finest!🔥 RIP Stevie.....😢❤️✌️✌️
R.I.P. SRV When guitars fall asleep at night they dream of being played by SRV. Second to none. He owns it!
Everything he does in improv... straight from his soul. Check out his sound check video sometime. Half asleep and hung over he is still a rock god.
Your eyes wide open and smile while watching a true master at his craft is very entertaining!
I was at Stevie Ray Vaughn's last concert the night his helicopter crashed after the show at Alpine Valley,Wisconsin August 26th 1990. The fog was so bad that we stopped and got a hotel room on the way home. The lineup was SRV, Eric Clapton, Robert Cray, Stevie's brother Jimmie and Buddy Guy. RIP SRV!
SRV ~ 🎸🐐 The goatiest goat in all of goatness
Everything Stevie played was improv. He never played a song the same way twice.
Do yourself a HUGE favor:
**Life Without You at Capitol Theater**
Every time he plays he freestyles he never plays a song the same way twice he always changes something even if it is something small .
He was insanely good. I'm honored that I got to see him live a few times. He could make a guitar cry for him.
Stevie Ray Vaughan "Couldn't Stand The Weather" (Official Music Video A MUST!!)
Another jaw drops when Stevie goes behind the back. The GOAT does this best.
💙💙💙💙💙… Stevie Ray Vaughan brought me here… Lovely reaction… subscribed!!🔥🔥🔥🙏🏻🙏🏻
HELL YEAH!!!! Can't get better than Stevie Ray Vaughan!!
There’s footage of him doing a sound check that is pretty good. It looks like he just rolls outta bed and walked on stage. I’d say that is certainly improvised. But yeah, he was known for not playing the same version twice…as was Hendrix and other greats.
Had no idea people dumped on you the last time out. WTF? SRV is a guitar god, and yes, he's a blues master, but the man could actually play ANYTHING. He was that good, a one-in-a-million player. The silver medallions on his hat are conchos, ornaments that come from the Tex-Mex-Indian culture. Have you checked out Duane Allman? Another guitarist at this level, also steeped in the blues, who died far too young. Take a peep at the Allman Brothers stuff from the early 70s. Love you getting into this music, I grew up smack in the middle of this. ❤
Hey sad to hear the haters came out on a SRV video at you! That is so wrong. Everybody can love whatever they are into and is not anybody else's business. That said Stevie is a phenom🎸🎶‼️💯💙. Never learned to read music but picked up the guitar at age 7 and taught himself how to play by listening to the greats on records. He is incapable playing the same way twice. There are structures to songs but his band members have to watch him like a hawk cuz they never know where he's going cuz Stevie doesn't either! They keep him supported whatever he does. They are all awesome. FYI almost all his live performances don't require a filter, but the El MaCambo seems to be the exception sometimes. Anything from Austin City Limits 1989, Capitol Theatre 1985, Toyko 1985, and so on are good to go.
The music simply flows out of him. He is so technically proficient that he only has to think of a sound and it comes out effortlessly.
For one of his great originals check out Aint Gone 'N' Give Up On Love from the Capitol Theatre 1985. He is the most passionate and captivating musician I have ever seen🎸💙‼️🎶
I enjoy your reactions but the only negative I have is all the F'Bombs😏✌️👋
Great reaction, srv will always be the goat! A must see is "life without you "at the capital theater, it's incredible. Thanks 🙏 keep up your great work man
You should watch the hole concert that will really change your life, love the reaction love to see younger people appreciating Stevie Ray.
Amazing what was produced 40 years ago. He was one of a kind.
Check out Life Without You Live at Capitol Theater .Also Scuttlebuttin and Rude Mood are great instrumental jams. Enjoy your channel and best of luck with the future.
The whole concert is like this
If you notice he play's continual thru the whole song so basically the whole song is a guitar solo....it doesn't stop now imagine 9 or 10 songs with this virtuosity throughout....he played with 13 gauge strings which is insane so add that up this man was just phenomenal the GOAT period....even BB King blues legend and Eric Clapton another guitar legend we're amazed by him(look them up) which is huge!!! Sit back and enjoy because your in for a ride....by the way his voice was unfortunately overlooked by his playing but he had an amazing voice which you will see...he may not be EVH but it's the blues the Mother to rock and he did it to perfection!!!! Glad you enjoyed it and he passed away in Aug 1990 at 35 yrs old...I saw him live shortly before he passed and will never forget it!!! RIP SRV❤
My fave is “tin pan ally” with Johnny Copeland….best blues ever!
Ian!!! You’re amazing, I know it’s hard not to hear the hater’s. But look at how fast you’ve grown. There’s always going to be people that are just plain jealous of anyone. So keep up the good work. Love Great Grandma ❤️❤️👵🏼
You go Great Granny!! I'm a Granny, hope to be a "Great" one someday. I tell the G-kids never to conform to be someone you are not for the sake of 'fitting' in. The life you were given is yours alone. ☮️
Thanks, Ian, for listening to SRV - the GOAT... sadly missed - I hope you react to some of his other fantastic performances.. a favorite of mine is "Look at Little Sister" - fantastic keys by Reese Wynans, and the smoothest guitar-switch evah - when he breaks a string.. I look forward to more from you...
SRVs solos improv. His brother Jimmy Vaughn( Fabulous Thunderbirds) said Stevie never played the same song twice, never played a song the same song .once
That was 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 and Ian you are Amazing, don't change, I love watching your reactions 😊
Much Love! Stevie's a BEAST!
Top level musician
He never played a song the same way twice. If you look, you can see Tommy Shannon keep looking at him, to see where SRV was going next.
"Life Without You", live at Capitol theater is an incredible performance. Don't look away, you'll miss something.
if you look away you will miss his tooth falling out
Here is a few more suggestions for you to check out from Stevie
His guitar sound check where he is wearing a leopard coat
Tin Pan Alley with Johnny Copeland and
Playing Pipeline with his brother Jimmy
Hendrix was very much a blue man as well…one of the greatest. Blues and Rock (what us gen x’ers call Classic Rock) were intersecting at the time. Rock and Roll, Blues, Gospel, and Country were all being put in the pot. It all came out as R&B, Funk, Rock, Psychedelic Rock, Southern Rock and later metal, punk, rap, new, wave, alternative, etc…
🙂Ian, I’m glad you are broadening your musical horizons ❤
Lots of blues solo are impros (it's been a while since I listened to Stevie Ray Vaughan, seems like I'm about to listen very much blues in a near future :) )
My personal favorite Stevie song is life by the drop. I love your videos dude. I don't get people being so negative and bossy. Ignore them, you are fantastic.
Watch SRV and Jeff Healy play together!
SRV grew up near me! A LEGEND! Met him once at the mall. Humble dude!
Props to ya. You need to check out SRV’s performance on “Leave My Little Girl Alone” from his 1989 Austin City Limits show.
Great reaction! Love to see people witness this performance for the 1st time! Never gets old!
I love watching people watch this performance and lose their minds when he puts the guitar behind his back and sings.
SRV was a treasure and something you said in the beginning ticked me off, not at you but at your commentors. Personally, I love it when a young person like yourself finds music that I grew up with and like it. Keep looking for the good stuff!
A world without music would be unbearable, unthinkable, insane.
Love SRV!🎸🎸🎸 Great reaction! Hip Hop is a genre!❤
Stevie is the best of all timefor a reason
SRV was always improvising.. he never really played a song the same way.. I loved that about him.
The greatest!...SRV...and at 5'7"...box of dynamite...Check out SRV "Sound check"...he plays the guitar, backwards. GOAT fer sure!!!
Thanks for the reaction...
The solos are improvised - different each performance though he works in some of his favorite licks each time...
...and yes, the hat band is a Navajo Concho Belt. :-)
Your song at the end was pretty damn good. Stevie is my all time favorite musician and I really don’t like rap, but that sounded as good as anything I’ve heard in that genre
That night in Alpine Valley, Wisconsin. Stevie was on stage at a bluesfest. Eric Clapton was standing in the wing with Jimmy Vaughan, his brother, and someone else but im not sure who, but Eric said they were standing there with their jaws on the floor. He said at that moment, Stevie was the absolute best in the world. And the next day, he was gone.
Just imagine the music we missed out on.
I’m 51 best I’ve ever heard dive in and haters will haters injoy bro
SRV is the GOAT!!!
There's so much to enjoy,, mary had a little lamb
All music is valid, and worthy of appreciation. Personal tastes will always have value, but everyone has an equal opinion.
Except the Spice Girls
I'm so glad u are on SRV & REN. I'll b listening for awhile now.
He was playin' behind his back since he was 10 years old ridin' down the street on his bike. He never played the same song the same. It was alway's different. ❤❤ He was my brother. I MISS EM SOOOO MUCH. ❤❤ IM HIS LITTLE SISTER KIYA LYNN VAUGHAN. CHECK OUT LOOK AT LITTLE SISTER LIVE AUSTIN CITY LIMITS. ❤❤
You do realize that Stevie Ray was always playing rhythm and lead guitar parts at the same time.....simultaneously. It usually takes two guitar players to play the way he did. Stevie said he heard music, and tried to recreate the sound himself, not realizing that what he heard was multiple guitar players. Don't miss out on Jeff Healey and Stevie Ray Vaughan " Look at Little Sister". I noticed some comments mentioning Jeff Healey and a couple of his songs. Those songs are NOTHING in comparison to the that performance with Stevie. I'm not even kidding. Check it out. It makes you feel happy to be alive to witness it. Again, I'm not even kidding. I can't believe someone didn't suggest it to you, unless they haven't seen it yet either. Jeff and Stevie laid it ALL out there in that performance. Stevie also does that song without Jeff, and it is equally phenomenal. 👌💯💣💥
he performed like this every show
😂 this 26 yrs old thinks they know it all if this whippersnapper only knew who the greats really are or were from back in the day lol just teasing i love ya my G i couldn't help myself after hearing your intro to the video. but great reaction stevie was amazing one of the greatest ❤
Stevie absolutely had the best "stank" face in the business...RIP Stevie...
There's that one moment when you react...priceless!
“You 26 year old, bad dresser hip hop kid”…welcome to my world of tunes!! Glad you are experiencing all types of music!! Prog rock with the band Yes s/b in your sights for our ears! I’m 65 and think people are too judgmental these days. ☮️❤️😎
This is the quintessential SRV song for me, all blues, electric blues as in when the Delta blues boards the Amtrak and rides it all the way north, to Chicago, during the first Great Migration. Cats like BB King start plugging those guitars in. But somewhere along the way, Chicago goes to Texas, and that’s where we find our guy tonite being as true to the Blues as Muddy Waters himself.
He played the song different everytime I think this is his best performance
In the blues genre, that in and out between the vocal and the guitar, first lyric then the guitar, then the lyric, and back to the guitar, is referred to as "call and response". Sometimes it's even used between two different guitars as they seem to "talk" to each other in a musical conversation. It's a very widely used vehicle in blues music from all regions and of all types. I believe it originated from the field chants that were sung among southern slaves and share croppers as they labored on the farms and plantations. It really moves me as well.
It is so ingrained in some bluesmen that you will almost never hear them sing and play simultaneously. B.B. King comes, immediately, to mind.
Make no mistake, if you were in that audience, all those many years ago, before you were born, you got to watch the magnum opus of the greatest blues guitarist ever on the planet and and I don't think it was ever repeated. Those folks are members of a very privileged elite, IMHO
SRV was Genrie of Texas Blues, which is a blend of rock & blues. Janis Joplin, ZZ Top, Los Lonely Boys, Buddy Holly, Texas Tornadoes, even Selina had elements of it with Chris Perez on guitar.
0 comments saying Hip Hop isn't a genre because anyone who says that has to be too idiotic to know how to work the interwebs. Stevie is one of my top 4 favorite artists, and so is Tribe Called Quest. Those people haven't gotten stoned and taken a drive and listened to an Outkast album. As for THIS performance - I had the same reaction when I first saw it - this is the best humanly possible live guitar performance that exists. I still think that. He has the basic song structure, and riffs he goes to, but her was improvising MOST of the song - he never played the same song the same way twice. He is leaving this dimension, and bringing back notes from the ether and bursting them out of his Strat. He is just in his pocket, working that blues scale but adding all of Stevie's unique talents and elements to weave and slink around and then deliver crushing sounds - there's no one else, I mean that's the obvious point. And dude, ha, WTF people coming at you like for how you are dressed. Some people just suck, and especially anyone commenting on any website for anything any time, has some issues. I know I do - they just don't involve haterism. You did awesome, thanks! Peace//
Vaughan wore a gambler bolero with a silver-plated concho band. All his hats were custom made by a craftsman in California.
Some think he wore black hats all the time, not true as he also wore tan and white felt hats especially later in his career.
There was an outline, a basic structure to his songs, but then he would mostly improv and color outside the lines.
He just played so well, that rather than trying to play, he just did it.... Just did what the music was doing.
He wasn't playing rehearsed notes, he was stringing together entire thoughts and phrases, and mostly just ad libbing them.
Of course, that's the great thing about blues in general, there is a structure, but within that structure there is so much room to make it your own, to personalize.
No one did that better than SRV.
You are young enough to be my grandson (if I had a baby when I was a teenager). Having said that, I am telling you that SRV is considered by most to be the GOAT. I saw him three times in the early eighties, in NYC, and he never played the same song, the same way twice. One show was in Radio City Music Hall (a small but time honored venue), he was such star, at the time, that his opening act were the Honeydrippers (the lead singer of that band is Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin fame). We nearly got tossed out of the show because we wanted to dance around (snobs). Go down the SRV rabbit hole, you will not be disappointed....
guitarists are directly linked to the instrument from the spine all the way to the fingers hitting the strings. It is purely religious. add a little electricity and it tweaks our spinal chord with every bit of tension we can build between notes.
Stevie never played a song the same twice, Double Trouble could follow him where ever he went.
Another great guitarist is Jeff Healey .Check out See The Light or As The Years Go Passing By live versions. Special talent that passed away too damn early.
You should dive further into Stevie Ray back to the BB King days. Even Jimi Hendrix said Stevie would play his music better then he could ever had.
Yes. He was an improviser. He had a rough idea what he wanted to play, but he would make it up as he went along. He never played the same song the same way twice. You’ll see that if you look at different performances of the same song.
That’s like asking if a Robin Williams concert was all written down.
Outside of the base structure of the song, everything is improved and extended during his live shows and every performance is different meaning you never got a carbon copy of the same song twice. It all depends on his vibe and interpretation of the sound and emotion he feels like giving on a moment to moment basis.
I know it’s been answered about his improv, but to add one thing, he didn’t even tell his band which songs he was gonna play or how he was gonna play them. They knew the song if he told the crowd, or by the first few chords Stevie played. He deduced on what to play and how to play it in the moment, largely based on the crowd.
Welcome to the legendary SRV 🐐
yeah. you just saw the best guitarist ever. in a class of his own perhaps (along with the great, late jeff beck).
I missed the first video and thus, the comments, but people really do need to chill. Ignore the ridiculous commenters. The sane ones appreciate you.
Guitar at its best. Try some Jeff Healy and Gary Moore
Greatest guitar solo of all time
Never play the same song the same ever!!! Plus he played 13 gage strings... So even more difficult playing behind the back... please keep reacting to the ONE AND ONLY STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN!!!
Brother, I am an old Rocker from the sixties forward. Hip Hop is def a Thang. Your beats sound fresh.... no cap.
I had to add which others may have already but he couldn't read music so he played by ear which is difficult enough in itself.....he was also as unpretencous as they come being the legend that he was so we not only lost a guitar legend but an amazing human being!!! Love your reaction and please check out more....he plays with David Bowie on a few songs "Let's dance" "China girl" and "Cat people..putting out fire" plus a few of his "Crossfire" "Look at little Sister" and "Tightrope" just some his amazing song suggestions....😊
I'd say about 32 comments !! And I absolutely love that unrealeased song of yours ♥♥
But... It's not an unrealeased, you played it during your live, it's from an EP or am I wrong ?
that guitar got ridden hard and put up wet, he was such a cool dude
If you notice the bassist, Tommy Shannon is always watching everything that SRV is doing because he would ad lib many times.
As we say in Texas; y'all be safe.
Adding to my previous comment…AC/DC/Alice In Chains/Audioslave/Zep/Fleetwood Mac/Rush/Slipknot/Phil Collins/Genesis/Peter Gabriel/The Cult/Black Sabbath/Motionless In White/Rage Against the Machine/PANTERA/Bodies by Drowning Pool, cuz I was with the singer and that song is about a band we went to see. BTW I like your song. 😎☮️❤️
Thats what used to be known as musical "talent" which has sadly been lost for the most part.
WTF?! I'm sorry people can be assholes Ian! Miserable people's sole purpose in life is to make others miserable as well! Just don't feed into it! Those of us who really rock with you, give 0 fucks about any of that! A song that will take you on a rollercoaster ride is, Inside looking out (Live 1969) by Grand Funk Railroad! Would love to see you check it out!
Haters gonna hate…mad respect my Bro !
The hip hop comment... hopefully just one time...(and I'm a blues guitarist) by the way very dope track at the end dude...
SRV o solo de sua guitarra traz um bem estar em minha alma👏👏👏👏👏👍🙏🇺🇸.
