This is fantastic! Although I've always been sad that they used so very, very little of the original Broadway score, I got to admit that "Ain't There Anyone Here for Love?" is a great number in the movie musical canon. Jane Russell and those guys are absolutely wonderful. There's one shot where 2 guys are standing on their head framing Russell and I was thinking how many takes they might have had to do of that number. It's wonderful hearing the cut audio - and I agree with the studio that cutting those extra women was a good idea. Jane and the boys are all we need.
The app "Classic Reel" has perhaps the largest collection of movies from the '30s thru the '60s and, better yet, the prints are state of the art, many in hi def, and there are no interruptions for commercials. It's the closest to TCM that I've found. What I noticed in this number sung by Jane is the instrumental arrangement which interpolates a familiar blues--"Loveless Love"--in one of the choruses. I've heard it sung by several blues artists, including the 1920s singer who was re-discovered and brought back in the 1970s. (I've lost her name.)
It does seem that way at first glance however, when I think about it... There is the whole superhero genre, muscular men in skin tight outfits! A lot of action movie from Terminator to Rambo, to Rocky 3, Of course action and superhero movies are usually targeted toward a male audience and guys are more likely to want to look like the actors than notice the objectification, however, I have watched lots of actions movies with women who were not used to see action movies and you could definitive see their surprise and the lust in their eyes upon seeing Arnold Schwarzenegger butt in Terminator, or Christopher Reeve in his tight Superman uniform or even that beach sprinting scene with Carl Weathers and Sylvester Stallone in Rocky III, to name a few.
Her character is awesome very funny and quick witted.
I agree. It seems to be an unpopular opinion but I prefer her character to Marilyn Monroe’s.
The pre-recoding does survive in REAL stereo. I only wish 20th Century Fox could release the soundtrack; they made a 5.1 track for the Blu-Ray

@@JeanDumas24601 yeah, objectification of men is more common than people think.
