My buddy just bought me this deck for Christmas for my '08 F350. I gave him shit but, he told me if it wasn't for me, he wouldn't have been able to do this for me. Not much makes me cry but........I'm happy!
Very nice review, I just bought a refurbished one off of amazon for $199, hopefully I will have some luck and it works good.. A bit of a gamble. Your review helped ease my mind, because I wanted to buy one of those Chinese head units, but I decided if rather have something more solid that probably has better sound.
If you are just plugging in a iPod, WHICH plug/port does it communicate in? Front or rear usb? Just to confirm, I don't need a special cable to play my iPod as that's only if I'm using the apps. Otherwise, I can use the front or rear USB port WITH my USB iPod cable right? Which/how do I set it up so the hdunit reads/controls it? I don't need the video etc., just want it to be controlled on the screen (forward/reverse tracks, read it etc). I guess I'm asking if I hv to go thru the settings menu to get my iPod playing? Instructions weren't clear for me and I didnt see how you had yours plugged in. I only saw the 3.5" audio plug in the aux jack. The man and good review. Great deck but instructions kept sending me to different pages and I can't even answer a simple question in the manual. I'm more visual.
So from what i'm getting here is that the lightning cable is only used for controlling the phone and to view the song info. Its a shame that the phone will not transmit the audio through the lightning cable, even my cheap EONON chinese multimedia deck was able to playback audio. Might return this deck if this is a limitation.
fireman7753 Ok, so I retested everything and have full audio capabilities with just the lightning cable after the update. I just assumed I needed to keep using the separate audio cable to the front aux input, but apparently now do not have to.

For navigation I found that my favorite app, motion X would not work with this stereo. However, using apples maps app would play audio through the stereo when plugged in. I am hoping to see some improvements from JCV on this......

9dubb9 if I wired if correctly it would work that way. I have my cameras power wire to a two way switch instead of the reverse wire on the vehicle. I bought a cheap camera from best buy, I think it's a Pyramid brand. I did a review on it a few years ago. The only problem I had was with moisture. I put some silicone on the seams and it's worked great.

Ian Rich I fixed my BT problems by updating. As far as the files go....After unzipping them, copy and paste the files from the folder onto a flash drive then update. They can not be inside a folder on the flash drive.
hey i am about to buy this tommrow, i want to be able to let my passenger watch movies while the car is moving, is that easy to by pass? because i know some of the newer decks have motion detection inside of them and wont allow for the video to play while driving, thanks alot for the post!

I dont recomend it unless you are an Iphone user. All the apps on the iphone have to be specific apps and not all the apps work with the stereo. Plus also, you have to have a special cable that JVC sells just so it works. I know i may be a bit late but i suggest you dont get it.
I do not agree with cheeriomartinez. The cable that comes with the radio is USB. Therefore, whatever phone you are using can be plugged into the unit with a standard USB charging cable for that phone. All the apps on my unit seem to work fine even if it is something other than an Iphone hooked up. Most people seem to run into their issues because they do not take the time to update the head unit.

The apps on the PHONE or IPOD need to be specific JVC approved apps in order for it to show up on your stereo in applink mode. The stereo by itself is fine, but once you try to use an iphone or ipod on it is when things start to get complicated because, like i said, it needs to have a special ipod video cable and special apps.

J-F D Mine did transmit audio through bluetooth after updating when using the ipod. I have not tried it with Pandora after figuring that out.

albdesi I put a simple two way switch inline between a ground and the emergency brake sensor. Works for me.

Sean Carney I still love it. As far as artist info it depends. It only shows if the station you are tuned to broadcasts the information.

Graphixa1479 Put a picture on a usb drive. Plugged it into the aux input. You can then navigate to the picture.
