That helmet saved him! If you look at the replay in .25 playback speed you will see that, although he is following the ball closely through the pitch and contact with the bat, the ball is at least 2/3rds of the way to him before he reacts. Given that he is around 70 feet from the plate and the ball is most likely traveling at greater than 90 mph, he had about 1/2 second between the ball contacting the bat and then contacting him. It takes about 1/4 second for the human reaction, which gives him another 1/4 second to respond with a move. The bottom line is that he should not be that close, or should at least be wearing a catchers mask along with the helmet.
It's like that scene in When Harry Met Sally where they are having a serious discussion at the game but keep doing the wave when it comes back around to them.
I was Braves bat boy 1966-1969. During one game, as I was kneeling next to the on deck circle talking to Joe Torre, the batter hit a “cue ball” off the end of the bat, that hit me squarely on the kneecap. The trainer came out to check on me. I was okay and the players in the dugout razzed me pretty good.
I'm dying of laughter 😂 how quickly the crowd dropped their concern for him I'm rewatching to see everyone's reaction. Guy in the gray hat and shirt (on yellow's left) is the biggest offender.

Ok sorry for being dumb, but, why are there people who aren't players on the field? With the netting you don't need a ball boy. Players are adults and can carry their equipment. So wtf
Bat boys do a lot more than just handle bats. They gather foul balls, get the umpire replacement balls, are on standby with water/gatorade, gather shin guards, helmets, and other protective equipment if the batter gets on base, and are on standby if a bat gets broken with a replacement, and that’s only some of what they do. It’s pretty important for them to be there as quickly as possible, and they are very aware and involved in what happens live so stuff like this is pretty rare, it was just hit perfectly right at him.
@@jasras5003 - I'm not the one criticizing a 15 year old kid for taking a 100mph foul ball off his cranium. I don't care if you have 3 helmets on. That's going to ring your bell. .

@@1972Ray I played baseball in college at an all conference level. Sports don't fully promote health and although people can play sports and not get injured as I have no injuries at all, this is an example right there of someone getting drilled with a ball and 99% of injuries in sports could have been prevented if they swapped out playing the sport with doing athletic activities in a healthier environment. Sports are organized in a way to compare egocentrically, which is why they keep track of the score and sports are also set up in a way to encourage fans and players to feel superior and celebrate when they win and inferior and disappointed when they lose, which is the definition of arrogance and not focusing on full effort. Many corrupt things in our society can trend such as birth control, alcohol (which any level of consumption contributes to cancer), and ego stroking news, and other evils and sports is somewhat corrupt system that our society has set up that sells into pride/ego. Probably didn’t realize everything happens so fast
I don't think the catcher realized as well what happened.
I think first guy to show concern was the home plate ump - he knows
The ‘man’ spreading from the bat ’boy’ is pretty strong here.
Ball boy or ball man, that is not a boy
If the ball was hit to Bill Buckner like that instead of the slow roller back in 86' the Sox woulda won the WS.

What does the wave have to do with anything? Why not also mention that it was sunny out?
That's what it is needed to attract people tp watch a video. Gotta make the title interesting
If you’re doing the wave at a baseball game you’re disrespecting the game.
The wave has been a staple of games since 1981. What I believe disrespects the game are advertisements on players uniforms. But that's just me.
Why doesn’t he have a glove?
MLB charges teams $300,000 per glove. So teams have to choose carefully who gets a glove and who doesn't.
