  • Made a little DIY for removing the fuel pump housing
Key things to keep in mind
-Don't do it with more then a 1/4 tank of fuel
-Disconnect battery after relieving fuel pressure
-Ground yourself somewhere on the car before reaching for anything with fuel on it
-Do it in a safe environment
Here is a link for the removal tool from amazon, people said this one worked for them and its the same design as the one I made
    www.amazon.com/...
    -Enjoy!

Thanks so much for this. Car smelled of exhaust fumes. Mechanic discovered and pointed out fuel pump leak. Saw the gas around that area. $1000+ estimate to have repaired. Ordered part online $150+. Refundable deposit on fuel pump remover tool kit rental at NAPA/AutoZone. Car up and running. No leaks. 2007 RX8. Thumbs up!!

Bro, I know this was 8 years ago. But have an 07 Rx8 that brought me here. Believe the fuel pump is the problem. Will turn and crank. Will ALMOST sputter to life but won't get where it needs to fire and start. Tried to deflood it, first time I was able to pull the fuel pump wire, turn the key and crank it with a little depression of gas pedal, connect the wire and it started right up. Second time, it did not work. Thinking fuel pump is toast

After fighting off lockring with taps from hammer and GIANT screwdriver for 25minutes... It came off. After replacung pump the car chirped jumping into second gear... Couldnt b happier. Carquest lifetime pump from advanced auto $215. Rated well above specs. Power band is back in full swing!!

How did you know it was time to change the fuel pump? I recently started experiencing some issues on long drives where the rpms would suddenly die on me. When I pulled over and restarted the car a couple of times, all would be fine again. I'm not sure if that means the fuel pump's on it's way out but I'd like to do some PM before it's catastrophic. Does that sound like a fuel pump symptom?
