I love low latency. I love seeing where I am about to fly even more. That's why I am probably gonna fly DJI for the immediate future. Except for the cheap stuff that I don't care about if it crashes. Then DJI is waaaaaay to expensive. And there is only analog.
The biggest problem with DJI is the compression. The latency is annoying but can deal with it, but compression will blur the grass into a smooth green wall when going fast enough creating the same effect as flying over smooth water where you cannot tell how high you are accurately. It will blur out small twigs and branches when diving through trees, it erases power lines I can see perfectly in HDZERO and see well enough in analog, but with DJI they are just gone. DJI is cool for exploring around, but not great for sending it hard.
I can’t imagine there’s anyone out there that’s been through more hdzero goggle time than me. Subsequently, I’ve been through just as many vtx. They need to be more durable. I’m sitting looking at 4 different model vtxs with all broken ufl and it’s not from a crash or anything. They also don’t release any hardware revision notes so it’s a crap shoot what whoop life vtx you get. I still think HDz is the best for me and what/how I fly, but I would really like to see some changes in durability as well as onboard gyro flow and dvr.
Yeah I think I forgot to include the part of durability into the video, because the UFLs always break on my whoop lites. but I’ve had a lot of luck with their V2 freestyle vtx.
Im tip toeing into hdz and I already hate it, everything breaks instantly, the software is absolutely atrocious, the dvd footage is super meh, and .10 lower latency does nothing for me, ive flown analog and dii from day one and never had a problem with high latency or help from lower latency.

But, with HDZero, it doesn't return quick and you lose your $500+ or whatever drone!!! When you get so little improvement over plain ole analog, HDZero, when considering how much it costs to upgrade to the system, has to be THE WORST VALUE IN ALL OF FPV! You can spend $349 for the DJI Integra goggles, get antennas and a battery included, and have image quality that is sooooo far and above what HDZero ever dreamed of, and be able to fly places you never imagined flying with analog or HDZero, for about H A L F the cost of HDZero's goggles. HALF! For so many improvements in performance over analog it'll blow your friggin' mind! PLUS, add to that what I read HERE in the comments from actual users of HDZero - THE VTX's burn out way too often and are expensive to keep replacing over and over and over again! Believe me, you will have to buy VTX's like mad! I know a long time reviewer of FPV - OVER 10 YEARS - Who said in his video, that he had to stop flying HDZero because he'd replaced soooooo many VTX's that he could keep spending money to replace them when they burnout out or failed so craZy often! FACT. All that money, a little sharper image, but terrible reliability and durability?? WHY DO PEOPLE BUY IT?!!! The value for your dollars spent is HORRIBLE! So much for so little. DJI cost's HALF as much and rarely, if ever, fails! Many, including myself, have never had a single failure of ANY of the DJI FPV system products! NEVER! And, when you upgrade from analog, don't you want to REALLY UPGRADE image quality, where you can now fly, how clear the image stays even when flying into or around buildings, into huge tree canopies and out the other side (most of you have never even tried doing this because....well, you can't!, but with DJI that's easy! HDZero isn't really and upgrade - it's just a lot of money spent to get a slightly sharper image but the same ole snow is still there and occurs at about 30 meters, and when flying around even a few trees you get a bunch of snow and more trees or bushes and Rainbos screen of death occurs - AND YER DONE!

Only system I haven't messed with is DJI (mostly because I detest walled gardens) but I stared with Analog, tried Walksnail and HDZero and HDZero is all I fly. I avoid places I get breakup or at least know that it's coming and plan my path so I can hopefully have an easy out, however being fully locked in is something I notice a ton and it matters for me. I need to be able to react asap for the way I am and latency always ends up with me getting boned. I noticed someone mentioned that radio latency is minimal, and that's true, however video latency is not and that matters even more because it's how you get visual feedback, doi.
Since HDZero is an open-source platform, it would be great to have two options in the settings. One being a low latency mode (current state), and another one with additional latency but with better range and penetration. That would make it the perfect system for me.
I'm flying analog on my freestyle quads....thinking of switching walksnail for my fancy image drone.. I have dji on it now and have alot of issues w it....hdzero seems like alot of money for essentially good analog(but it's figital) I like how the analog module use both antennas and stack images over eachother....and of course latency. But if I'm flying in tight spots with alot of needed pemetration I prefer the better image so I don't clip vines i cant see....I don't know anyone w hdzero so I don't get to try it....I bet I would love it for latency and 90fps camera
I do long, slow, detailed inspections. Not so much into the swoopy loopy stuff. The Avata 2 is a good compromise... good flight time, good range, good video quality ( gotta see those power lines, etc). I'm not sure about the latency, though it has not been a problem so far.
I have no place to tell you what to make, but i will say i enjoyed the vibe here and was aware of it during the video. Bit less doomer, more just stuff you love. Enjoyed on my 4am walk to the bus, Thanks.
In my opinion it also very much depend on what type of spots you fly. Flying around asphalt and concrete, I don't think I would replace analog. But since I fly a lot around trees, grass and other things that are difficult to see in low video quality, the choice was quite easy.
It took me a while to get used to the difference between the 03 and wasp to the nano3 and micro v3. Id mich rather fly hdzero, having both systems i agree with you. I agree that more penetration would be a huge plus. Thanks for the video, brotha
Specles. Dots. Dancing pixels. Sparkles. Call em what you will - I hate seeing em - hurts the eyes, and grates on the mind. I switched to DJI as soon as it came out. I've tried the others - but hey - it's called FPV, not FPL (First Person Latency). It's the vastly better view. Not the few milliseconds of better latency.
@@grimripperrr analog is still the best because it makes it the easiest to share your flight and ride along with others. it really upset me that so many people at rampage were on DJI, I could only "ride along" with analog and the people with walksnail that enabled share mode.
@grimripperrr I have the same issue, but it's not as bad with the goggles 2. I think the lcd screen is part of the problem. Hdzero is my goto for close proxy flying, and walksnail is a happy medium for everything else. My eyes still need to adjust with walksnail, but not as bad as with dji. I can't understand why many fpv people dismiss Walksnail like that. I just bought Skyzone Sky0x4 Pro to fly analog, but would defintely try the Walksnail VRX in the future to try it out!
Ive been unknowingly blasting my own video feed by having dynamic radio tx set up to 1w, lowered it down to 100mw and i get the same range and penetration with better video!
I fly everything cept walksnail and Analog is warmest in my heart for how cheap and reliable it is and it feels amazing. O3 is something else too. Hdzero cause ots nice to see during races. But if all i had was o3 and analog it be good enough. I def feel the latency. I am sensitive to it even 500hz vs crossfire was huge for me
All said and done, I think you give a good perspective for both ''sides'' to latency or to penetrate. I might eventually try out some low-latency KISS build. But I see my DJI BF setup merely as training equipment and commercial equipment. But like I said I might be hunkering less latency someday, or DJI comes out with a low latency system knocking your 3 or 4 :P factors.
I could be wrong but I think DJI doesn’t have the breakup because they are trading it for latency, so i think basically with DJI it waits for the video signal before it displays it which is why it has a slightly higher latency, versus hdzero which just displays what it has and what you see is what you get. That’s obviously a super simplified explanation of what’s happening Also dji bounces the signal off of things better so that causes an increase in latency, but it’s milliseconds. So the only way DJI can reduce latency would be to sacrifice the “penetration”
@@grimripperrrThe reflection technology does not add much to the latency, but merely the quality drags down the latency. If they wanted, they could sacrifice mbit for reduced latency. Like there is already a low latency setting with the og/vista on 25 mbit, they could if they wanted crank that full open :)
Shouldn't dismiss Walksnail. It's consistently rated higher than HDZero in video quality, penetration and range. Latency is lower than DJI but higher than the posted HDZero. Not hating on HDZero just stating facts and first hand experience.
I agree I ditched DJI piked up the hdzero goggels and I run walksnail vrx on them for my freestyle quads. Doing it this way you can have good performance in all 4 categories he listed with 1 set of goggels. Also cheaper for micros.
Nice video. HDZ is definitely the system for me. Small correction though, the latency with HDZ will NEVER increase. You either get the info with the time window (3ms for hdz) or it's gone forever, hence the worse than average breakup. We can assume the camera and deinterlacing attribute some amount of latency to the system, but even if that only leaves 0.5ms for the video to travel at light speed, that's still a theoretical max of 150km.
According to HDZero’s website "HDZero’s link latency is also fixed - regardless of signal reception. The latency increases about 3µs/km as distance between the transmitter and receiver increases."

Conclusion : i hate latency, i fly mostly analog and keep hdzero for open field and just enjoy his unbeatable feeling.
The latency on DJI Goggles 2 seems WAY better than the V2 goggles even with the same quad/O3. Like for a while I didn't get why people complained about DJI latency, until I tried a pair of V2. They get laggy even nearby, where the G2 won't be laggy until you're under 10mbit
I would say there's a #5 and that's affordability. Also, as far as latency is concerned, i feel like it's only an issue in freestyle and racing. As a person that prefers DJI, I'll stick with them until anyone else can even give them a run for their money. Spoiler alert, no one will.
It all depends on the situation hdzero is good in some area dji is good in most accept the latency but I'd rather be able to see and judge the latency than a rainbow of nothing. Each to there own I think analoge is still great as well.

4:35 YMMV I am VERY latency sensitive. I think it has to do with spending a couple years trying to develop a VR game and spending a ton of time and energy to notice latency, but even before then I was very sensitive to it. Now it makes me physically ill though when before it just bothered me. I'm personally still on analog, and will be for a long while. 90% of my flying is done out in the desert away from people and their dirty 5.8ghz radio waves so my video often looks as good or better than most "HD" DVR footage I see online even when I am flying several kilometers out. On top of that it's cheap AF. HDZero is getting close with their prices, but I hear the word "fragile" used too often in conjunction HDZero for me to pull the trigger.
The new V2 freestyle VTX has been pretty reliable for me. I’ve had issues where I’ve lost an antenna and burnt out whoop vtxs and I’ve done the same with the v2 and it still works great. So I think it’s getting better and basically anyone committed to hdzero now is sort of willing to accept that.

RIP my drone saver pole on this rescue attempt. It was worth a shot.
noooo
It might still be there
Such a good vide! love the switching locations when talking
@@grimripperrr Im glad for you, my ufl connector on my freestyle v2 came off after no more than 4 packs. Whats weird is that I didn't hear anybody talking about durability before I got my goggles, but now that I have them, I read it alot more often...
I use glue around the ufl connectors to secure them. Haven't broke a single one after that. Just need to apply the glue super carefully around, but not on the connector. :) but yeah, they should be built better.
@@hiphur I also use e6000 and a relief zip tie on all mine. Still break. At least I’ve probably broken more than 10
Grimm, your videos are getting better and better. Cool to see. Keep it up, my man!
grim, this was a super helpful video.. as someone who flies only analog.. this video gave me alot to think about when I upgrade.
HDZero (analog2) really, truly is analog, only slightly sharper. To spend $600 on the goggles and then $100 on 4 antennas, and $20 on a battery for the goggles, just to get a slightly sharper image, is RIDICULOUS! way, Way, WAY too much money for what you get in improvements. Is HDZero better in any other facet of flying?...NO, it's actually worse! When the Rainbow Screen of Death occurs, as you saw in this video when he goes under the bridge, it happens fast! With analog, it happens slow and you can choose to go through it and punch out and hope it returns quick, like it usually does. But, with HDZero, it doesn't return quick and you lose your $500+ or whatever drone!!!
When you get so little improvement over plain ole analog, HDZero, when considering how much it costs to upgrade to the system, has to be THE WORST VALUE IN ALL OF FPV!
Think about it!!!..............What else do you spend so much on, well over $700, just for the goggles, and get so little in actual improvements over analog? NOTHING!
I personaly love the clarity and penetration of analog as well as the insane long range you get from FRSKY
this is the kind of fpv content i was looking for, for so long!
i love my walksnail goggles. i fly them 95%of the time.i own o3 with v2s,the fatshark dom with v2avitar pro VTX,and i own skyzone o4x.but out of all the walksnail is my favorite for flying arouNd doing freestyle close. i fly the o3 if im going out a tad faRTHER
I noticed someone mentioned that radio latency is minimal, and that's true, however video latency is not and that matters even more because it's how you get visual feedback, doi.
well said brother. Respect the limit of your gears.
Since HDZero is an open-source platform, it would be great to have two options in the settings. One being a low latency mode (current state), and another one with additional latency but with better range and penetration. That would make it the perfect system for me.
Hdzero on ultra fcfc is so crisp and snappy
I'm flying analog on my freestyle quads....thinking of switching walksnail for my fancy image drone.. I have dji on it now and have alot of issues w it....hdzero seems like alot of money for essentially good analog(but it's figital) I like how the analog module use both antennas and stack images over eachother....and of course latency. But if I'm flying in tight spots with alot of needed pemetration I prefer the better image so I don't clip vines i cant see....I don't know anyone w hdzero so I don't get to try it....I bet I would love it for latency and 90fps camera
analogue on one of these 2 watt transmitters can do good penetration and with the right goggles, low latency.
Get the right tool for the right job but HDzero is the swiss army knife.
Recently, RUclips's algorithm showed me your videos and I love them. I love your sense of humor 🤣
Dano doing magnet fishing was a cool easter egg. Great video as always dude.
Enjoyed on my 4am walk to the bus, Thanks.
yeah these transitions are crazy.... Props!!! Great editing
I like this style- recording in multiple locations/days, your wardrobe changes, just spices it up. Subd for more
Specles.
Damn that place is flat, you can watch your dog run away for a month!
Thanks Grim.
👍✌️
Your point of view seems very reasonable ....great info..... especially since im looking into my first pair of goggles
You helped there dude . I couldn’t hack that screen on hdzero. Under bridge was enough , condolences
the rainbow fog of HDzero causes me to have seizures.
The latency of DJI gives me vertigo
@@grimripperrr analog is still the best because it makes it the easiest to share your flight and ride along with others. it really upset me that so many people at rampage were on DJI, I could only "ride along" with analog and the people with walksnail that enabled share mode.
@@grimripperrr you are the only other person I've heard say this. I have the same issue. I always end up with a headache after flying DJI.
I'm a frame designer so I have to try everything lol.
@@grimripperrrbro you’re not good enough to feel latency…. You are experiencing placebo. Like seriously man, you’re so full of it if you think you fly at any kind of skill to feel latency!
I agree, love hdzero, would not trade the low latency to anything :) If hdzero did not exist, I would be flying analog. Sorry for your lost quad.
I can't understand why many fpv people dismiss Walksnail like that. I just bought Skyzone Sky0x4 Pro to fly analog, but would defintely try the Walksnail VRX in the future to try it out!
its only gonna get better
yeah man i can't wait to witness the technology 20 years from now
sorry for your loss. curious how the 03 would do around the silo and under the bridge.
True. Have to respect the limits of the system.
If I might humbly add one more criteria to your list? Weight?
Ive been unknowingly blasting my own video feed by having dynamic radio tx set up to 1w, lowered it down to 100mw and i get the same range and penetration with better video!
Yeah I think 100mw gets you plenty of range
@@grimripperrr *surprised Pikachu face*
I switched from HDzero to O3 and couldn't be more happy
The latancy issue is very overstated
@@VogxelFPV true. I feel much more confident flying with dji than with hdzero suddenly going RAINBOW SCREEN within a second

@@tbounds4812 You can always do the low latency setting
You could be if you got Walksnail!
Hey... i love hdzero feeling. I think is the best in fpv, no dubts.
Penetration? The worst unfortunately...
I sold all my walksnail gears because i feel like to pilot an excavator.
Dji is the better and most used option for concrete bandos from freestyle pilots now .
I’m thinking of selling the V2s and getting some goggles 2 so I can record OSD in DVR with the O3
where can i get one of those hats?
I would say there's a #5 and that's affordability. Also, as far as latency is concerned, i feel like it's only an issue in freestyle and racing. As a person that prefers DJI, I'll stick with them until anyone else can even give them a run for their money. Spoiler alert, no one will.
It all depends on the situation hdzero is good in some area dji is good in most accept the latency but I'd rather be able to see and judge the latency than a rainbow of nothing. Each to there own I think analoge is still great as well.
Imo walksnail is the best balance, the most options and not dji
This is why I would advise people to get HDZ goggles so they can also use walksnail.
@@grimripperrr I had Walksnail on my HDZ Goggles and the lag and stutter and ground smearing was absolute garbage... totally unflyable behind my house.
I personally see no drawbacks from DJI. With the 03 air unit, I can go 4+ floors up in a solid concrete parking garage, I can go over 10 miles away with line of sight, and I can run a 40 degree camera angle at nearly full throttle without being affected by latency, it's light enough to put on a 2" drone, 1080 live feed, can record in 4k, has gyro data, and has 10 bit color.
There's literally nothing more I want from a video unit.
@@andyhoughtaling6319what 2” drone are you flying with 03?

Weight is as well a factor especially for smaller builds. HDZero does not seem to be where I would consider investing into another Ecosystem. Walksnailk has 1S Boards but...I just care about the footage and DJI does the Trick for me.. If I would be racing, I would stick to Analog....

Analogue will never die, currently building 2 6s Analogue 5 inches with tracer & fettec g4 fc, BLHeli32 esc, Slattfpv 1700kv motors but where’s my farkin frames 😩
HDZ FTW!
i switched from analogue to a pair of dji v2 goggles and fuck bro the difference is insane it works extremely well for me
edit: also runnin radio master zorro its goaaaaaated
I notice significant latency with my analog system in low light levels. I attribute this lag to the camera processing with little light. Not sure the exact reasons behind it.
I couldn't accept the complete loss of visibility during the rainbows -- they would come on very quickly, and they scared the crap out of me every time. I eventually went back to analog. At least I can 'see' through the signal breakup.
I respect the unicorn vomit. The fans in those goggles are really nice though... I could barely see out my foggy G2's when I was flying in Humid South Carolina last week at Rampage.
The fans are super loud and I’d love it if there was a way to make them quieter but it’s not a big deal.
I just let my lenses bake in the sun, so then you become accustomed to it and don't notice the fogging.
