    Roe is £4.50/lb at my fishmongers so im going to try smoking it in a lidded wok via the old loose tea/ground rice/sugar method..Also Ikea do 190gm tubes of smoked roe for about £1.75 which ive used before..Also if synthetic flavours dont offend you then colgin brand liquid smoke is available in Tesco for under £2.50,half the price of brands like Stubbs etc.Smoked fresh garlic is available and in my pantry I have smoked garlic powder and smoked flaked salt.

    🐟 Smoked cod roe is really great with this, too . Not a cheap eat, but worth the making 💞👌🏼

    A thumbs up on the recipe, followed by an observation. The recipe and demonstration there of was first rate as always.
    That said, I've been a follower of River Cottage almost from its inception, albeit from afar. Many of the ingredients promoted are inaccessible to most. Come on guys, smoked fish roe? This also belies the cost which when available can be significant.

    This is why I love the food tube contributors, in the states, I would never try half the recipes that I do now. And the perception is British food is rubbish....HA

    Living in a small (under 20K) NW Ohio rural town. I could never hope to find smoked or unsmoked pollack roe. Would love to taste it though..

    Nice version of taramosalata with a river cottage twist, but for the real greek version you need to add extra virgin olive oil!!

      Im sure he used extra virgin olive oil, it's just quicker to say olive oil. And extra virgin olive oil is still 'olive oil'.

    can you not blend it with the skin? For example chop it before putting it in the food processor? Seems like a waste to me.
