    Episode Notes:
    1. The story of Sonic Xtreme is brutal. You should look it up and read just how bad things were mishandled and just how petty some of the squabbling was.
    2. Greendog is included on the off chance I missed something somewhere about its development. Interactive Designs definitely did the work, I'm just not sure what STI had to do with it.
    3. Games captured via the Mega SG.
    4. STI had a number of cancelled projects thanks to their Sonic endeavors. Sonic took priority over everything.
    5. Yuji Naka was famously difficult to get along with. So vindictive was this dude, he actually threatened to quit Sega if STI was allowed to use the Nights engine for Sonic Xtreme. The fate of the company be damned.
    6. Sonic Spinball is without question STI's weakest game IMO. I understand people love it, but man I couldn't stand it.

Yeah very appreciated and happy to see other Sega focused channels now that im really digging into their deeper library and history. More popular gaming history/discussion channels tend to be way too nintendo centric, and i get why but it's tiring and a disservice to the great work of these other companies throughout the years. Now to look for some more channels that dive deeper into Capcom focus lol

The squabbling between Sega of America and Sega of Japan is really just backwards. We could have had the Saturn Eternal Champs game within the first 24 months of Saturns release and I am sure a few more exclusives with STI doing some amazing stuff. Great job, stay safe!

      @AltimaNEO 4 года назад +1

Altima I disagree, this the one and only exception that I know of where Gems actually shines. The heavy grungy 90s guitar works perfectly as it is and I wouldn't prefer any other way. Subjectivity is the case here it seems. A couple of the songs even have some acoustic guitar notes that work surprisingly well.

As for Sonic, I always felt that the stage in Sonic Jam was actually a good starting point for building a 3D Sonic game for the system. Great video! I started at STI as an environment and character artist just as they were starting work on Kid Chameleon. It was a great place to work and a group of very talented people… until it wasn’t. After the teams split things got weird. STI had several games that, had they been able to finish them, could have gone on to be A+ titles; ie Kinetic/Jester, Astropede, Spinny & Spike. By the time I left in 1995 the writing was on the wall that STI’s future was seriously in doubt. (And it was definitely no longer an enjoyable place to work)
I have no idea why Green Dog is said to have been done by STI?!?! I have NO memory of it and I was at STI from 1990-1995.

Sonic X-Treme is a game that makes me dream. More like a fever dream.
Granted, if it actually went out, i bet it wouldn't be as memorable as it is from those strange concept video. After all, the concept is a bit like Bugs but with a better physical engine and presentation... And a funky camera.
... But i have a weird obsession with "how developpers tried to make 3D plateformer before Mario 64 came out" and Sonic X-treme is like a window to a world that will never be.

Die Hard Arcade! I really wish they would re-release that one on modern systems. Wikipedia claims Japan got it on PSN, but not us.

You know, it's funny. We have at our fingertips the ability to access a wealth of knowledge that every generation before us never had and somehow I didn't know all these games were made by STI which just burns my pee...wait a minute. But seriously, I know some people don't like Kid Chameleon or Sonic Spinball but they were and still are some of my favorite games on the system with Chameleon being one of the first games I played on the Genesis when we would rent it (yep, renting consoles was a thing for the younger audience). Thanks once again for pumping out the content, it's keeping me entertained through a rough patch of recovering from surgery and others through the quarantines, stay safe and healthy and remember to not burn yourself out.
Also, EVERYONE, you are allowed to like and dislike games, everyone has different tastes in gaming (I for one LOVE FMV games) so if you see a game you don't personally like just be cool :)

Hi Lord! I love your channel! Have a question that has been in my mind for some time. In Comix Zone, I rememeber the shadows were not linear when I played the first time in a Sega Genesis MK II, but now i see everywhere these linear shadows, eve in the Sega Genesis for Steam. This is an effect that was lost in the newer Genesis models or I´m just having a Mandela effect?

I really like Sonic Spinball, also folks forget it launched at $30. I"m so glad Sonic 3 wasn't isometric, I never was very good at those kind of games :). Also I don't think Jackson's legal problems were the issue, he didn't like the Genesis' sound chip.

I think it's much more of a reason that he was in court defending himself against child abuse allegations. Bad PR. But I guess people will always choose the explanation they prefer lol.

Another reason why Michael Jackson’s name wasn’t mentioned in Sonic3 was because he hated his own music and wanted his name taken off and after the legal issues, Sega was definitely more than compliant with his request

sonic 2 was one of the first sonic games I played but got sonic spinball with my first Genesis it was model 2 with eternal champions sonic spinball and NBA jam TE, the jungle book and Asterix and the great rescue, and a 6 button controller. I enjoyed sonic spinball I liked the music for some reason took a while to beat.

I think Comix Zone can be played and beaten without alot of mandatory damage but it does take a few playthroughs to learn the level design. There are bombs that can be torn from the wall from your rat, and item planning and seeking the best route is strongly encouraged. At first it seems like that but with time I was able to avoid alot of damage that at first seemed mandatory, very tough game, and the only Gems soundtrack that is fantastic imo.
