HOW to CROCHET a WAVY SHELL STITCH Border Edging for a Blanket Shawl or Scarf

- You can learn how to Crochet a Wavy Shell Stitch 3D border edging in this video tutorial. Hi I'm Donna Wolfe from Naztazia. This crochet pattern works great on the edge of baby blankets, afghans, shawls, scarves, and more. It is created by making a shell stitch on top of a solid double crochet border. The shells form a 3D wave or ripple effect.
The stitches used in this pattern include the chain, double crochet, and slip stitch. You can use any size or weight yarn you wish. For this sample, I'm using a worsted weight yarn and a size G hook.

I used this border on a white Catherine’s Wheel afghan for my granddaughter’s wedding gift. The border was perfect for this pattern.
I like the way you treated the corner. I’ve watched other videos and there technique was a bit more challenging. Yours is very simple and looks just as great thanks
You simplify the extraordinary, thank you for taking the the time to show us. My next baby blanket will have this for sure!!
I love your videos. You have have a gift of simplifying the difficult. This border is lovely, so I decided it was perfect for the baby blanket I’m making. I got one side done and ended up frogging it when I realized it is not reversible. I still love it, I will remember this pattern for a project where only one side is viewed. 😊
Thank you for your tutorials, I did this boarder on my nieces blanket and my blanket came out so nice 😊. Love your patterns and tutorials.
By far the best and easier border I’ve done thanks so much

Love watching you, you teach us quick and easy just cant get enough!!!!
What a neat edging, very pretty. It will use alot of yarn.😄Thanks for the tutorial. Keep up the good work. Your videos are very well explained. 🧶🧶👏🏼👍🏼
Thank you for sharing this. I'm using it as a trim around my granddaughter's blanket.
Thank you! It looks harder than it actually is. Your tutorial is very clear and easy to understand. 🙏😊
Glad it was helpful!
i love that, but any idea on how to finish this? I mean how do I join the last shell with the first one I did?
Did you figure out how to join the last shell?? I’m stuck
@@giantslayerash5475 it seems NO ONE knows how to finish it. Every tutorial will show the stitch but not the finish. WTH!!!
@@pauladowd3835 It was easy. At the last corner, dc and work last dc/shell. Sl st to bottom of first shell so that the shell you just made overlaps next shell just like it does all the way around. I can’t even tell this last corner from the three others.
@@dawnkurtz9541 that's exactly what I did too and it looks great.
@@pauladowd3835 the first video I watched on this edging (this is the second) shows how to make the waves without the row below (so narrower edging) and also clearly shows how to finish and adjust if you don't have the right number if stitches left. It is by Crochet Happiness.
Thank you very much much!! I love the stitch and the way you explained!!!
God bless you 🙏🤗👍🏻👏🏻💐
Glad it was helpful!
Beautiful! Ty for clear instructions. Excellent teaching & a perfect pace (for me, that is.😉)

Wonderful!
@@naztazia oh how pleasant I certainly wasn't expecting a reply! This works really well but I changed it so I had half trebles in the front row and then did the shells/waves in trebles for more contrast and a smaller edge it looks really good thak you!
So clear!!! Great Teacher!!! It looks neat AND easy AND beautifull! Thank you!! An Argentine fan of yours!!
Thanks so much 😊
Oh its beautiful and so simple I've been looking for a pretty boarder, it's just lovely!!!!! THANK YOU DONNA!!!!
So glad!
Wished I co uh old send you a picture, I finished it a couple hours ago!!!!
How do you end it? When you get all the way around to the beginning I can’t figure out how to get the last shell & the first shell together correctly

Que ponto lindo! What a beautiful crochet! Hugs from Brazil.
Me encantó el punto, necesitaba la orilla de mi manta y me llenó el gusto, muchas gracias, soy de Punta Arenas, Chile
Very pretty, thank you Donna, as always a great tutorial, so easy to follow.
Good work thank you for sharing :-)
I really love your videos. I learn a lot from them! Thank you!
Thank you for this simplified version. Every other tutorial for this border teaches turning before the slip stitch. It's a very pretty border but I'm not about to turn twice for every shell on a large blanket. Being new to crochet, I never thought to just bend the shell forward. So easy. But my blanket was made before I decided on this border. What happens if my stitches are not a multiple of 4? I guess I could find a way to fudge it and maybe it won't be too noticeable.
I usually do a single crochet or double crochet border around the whole item before doing borders that require a certain multiple. During that foundation border, I put an extra stitch or two or three in each of the corners to make it work for each edge.
Love it, it’s so pretty, dainty and elegant. I did it right on a swatch the very first time, which says a lot because I’m an intermediate beginner. How do you finish it though? I tried winging it a few ways but couldn’t quite get it to look right. Can you add to or make a new brief video on how to end it?
Very clear. Thanks a ton. Stella
I like it so much that I started to making it around my blanket... but now I'm stuck with the last stich.. how i have to conect the last stich to the first one 🙄😟
Beautiful
I have a small Christmas skirt for a 3 foot tree. I changed the wav a small bit to be the size to edge the skirt.
Instead of DC for each dc u mention, to which, I chged to HDC.with a 4.0 mm hook

Hi Donna,
I love your tutorial, and have already started on the wavy shell border for a baby blanket... I have completed the border on all the four sides. Not sure how to join the last stitch with the first. Can you please guide me.
